I stayed here with my other half in Feb 2014. We were here for an extended Valentine's day break and split our stay between the Maison Arabe and the Riad Kniza.

We were very lucky as we stayed at 2 excellent (and quite different) places.

We had a split-level duplex suite at the Riad Kniza, it was very luxurious, very oppulently furnished and I couldn't fault the room in any way.

There was a living room / sitting room downstairs with the bedroom on the upper floor.

The Riadh itself was very quiet and peaceful. There is a very big and well furnished roof terrace right at the top of the building where you can catch the sun / enjoy the view over the city.
The terrace is furnished with lots of chairs / tables / sunbeds / beds and there is also a lot of shade as well.

Location-wise it is quite difficult to find as it is in a little alleyway but it is about a 15-20 minute walk from the main square and not far from the city wall - it is also about a 10-15 minute walk from the Jardin Majorelle.

As you get onto the main throughfare it is very local/authentic - there is a market and there are various street traders / butchers shops etc where the locals are shopping. Be careful of mopeds, donkey carts and if early in the day and squeamish you might want to be wary as you may see someone's chicken dinner being 'prepared'. You definitely get a feel for the area.

The one thing that stuck out to us was the extreme generosity and freindliness of the owners. They made sure we were very well looked after all the time.

We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was great (there was a lot of it as well) and breakfast was also good and ample.

My only minor niggle during the stay was that the wifi connection was slow and dropped occasionally (but I am always checking emails for work etc - it might not bother anyone else).

Probably one of the best hotels I have stayed in.
Staff and service were excellent, couldn't do enough to make it a pleasant stay.
Eating times were all flexible, room, lounge, terrace etc.
Also enjoyed the cooking experience, buying our ingredients at the local market (nice not to have to haggle as we were with the hotels chef) and cooking our own meal in the hotels kitchens.
Overall can't recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: No. 11 is the best, we got upgraded as it was my birthday, needed a map to find the bed.

Outstanding service, very friendly, can't do enough to help. Excellent food at reasonable prices. Room was delightful, atmosphere was intimate and very Moroccan in style. Location was a worry as we arrived but it is delightful inside, an oasis of peace amongst the mayhem of the medina. Amin, the waiter was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. Worth every penny.

Room Tip: Junior suite is perfect

Having wanted an authentic Moroccan experience, we found exactly that at Riad Kniza. The Riad is an oasis of calm within the Medina. Decorated with beautiful antiques The ambiance is as if staying in a private home. The staff are courteous and discrete - nothing is too much trouble.
We were upgraded to a very spacious suite, with a fabulous domed ceiling, the lantern within casting stunning shapes and shadows.
The pool is small, but perfect for cooling off in the summer heat. Meals were taken in cosy salons over looking the courtyard with fountain - delightful!
There is no menu. We let the concierge know when we wished to eat in, discussed options, and a feast was prepared.
A truly memorable stay. If we return to Marrakech we will definitely be heading back to Riad Kniza

We just returned from a lovely first time visit to Morocco. We echo Kaye G's description of this gem. Our stay included three nights at Riad Kniza and I can't say enough about the hospitality and accommodations. Everyone deserves a chance to experience a riad when in Marrakech and this one will be memorable for all the best reasons. The manager is very welcoming and the staff cannot do enough to make your stay special. Our room was straight out of a Moroccan fantasy and spotless. First day our TV was not working so well- by mid-afternoon we had a new one in place! Located just a short distance from one of the Medina gates or "babs" it is a very convenient location for both the old and new town. Riads are also known as "blind houses" in Morocco because they have no windows facing into the old city. Instead the space is flooded with light from open courtyards and a wonderful rooftop terrace. Riad Kniza is intimate, beautiful and very quiet. A special mention about their cooking class- you absolutely will love cooking with their lovely chef. She is a great teacher, kind, warm, and very skilled. Our class was just the two of us and we created a wonderful chicken tagine dinner which was then served to us by candlelight on the rooftop terrace. Nothing could have been more fun or romantic...This riad really is a treasure and a terrific way to experience another aspect of exotic Moroccan culture.

Room Tip: Just be mindful that this is a riad and so there are steps to the higher floors.

After a long & very slow passport control experience, we were greeted by a smiling pleasant driver. Whom took our luggage & we entered a spacious air conditioned mpv. We were privy to a personal tour, as he advised of the various architecture & buildings we passed enroute to the Riad Kniza located within the media (holy city). We were greeted by a smiling Abdullah, at the roadside entrance at the mouth of the market, he too took our luggage & he navigated us through the local bustling full of vendors & numerous small motorbikes. Turning down an alley, the noise almost seeming as the volume had been turn the way down. He knocked on a beautifully carved wooden door & we entered a small tranquil reception, we were then shown through a small courtyard with a water fountain into an air conditioned saloon full of Moroccan ambience & charm. The hospitality began by being offered Moroccan mint tea, whilst we were booked in. We were then given a tour of the Riad (restaurant, pool, hammam, sauna, massage room & roof terrace), our suite was on the first floor. This too had a beautiful carved wooden door with a heavy golden bolt & lock, once entering the air conditioned suite we were greeted by rose petals, either scattered on the floor or in designs on almost every flat surface visible including the toilet seat & cistern. The ambience filled suite, was spacious with a seating area with fireplace & a coffee table with a large bottle of mineral water and bowl of fresh fruit, yes rose petals too. A super king size bed, a dressing/storage area (including digital safety deposit box) leading off this is the separate toilet & bathroom with full bath including an overhead shower & hairdryer. The towels were changed seemingly twice a day, we found the room was not only cleaned daily but also of an evening upon arriving back the bed would be turnt down for you & the air conditioning on (had you turn it off as we had on occasion, the bed is very comfortable & a good night's sleep is provided. We dined here the 1st night and were pleasantly surprised by the seduction of our senses, with the private intimate charming saloon, ambience provided by the traditional musicians serranding us as we dined on the beautiful 4/5 course meal (we were stuffed so couldn't complete the entire set meal), there isn't a menu, they advise you of what is available. Breakfast is literally served when your ready for it (8am, midday or even 2pm), either in a saloon or on the roof terrace. The pool is small so more lengths can be achieved but the massage is highly recommended. The staff are very friendly, professional & knowledgeable. We stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of July and plan to return later in the year.

We truly enjoyed our stay in this excellent location. Perfect service and hospitality made our 3 nights here an amazing experience. The building has been renovated to the highest standards while preserving the historic characteristics. We also enjoyed an excellent dinner on the wonderful rooftop.
