“Beautiful oasis in the heart of Marrakech”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

We were fortunate enough to stumble across this beautiful riad and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. It was the only place we stayed in morocco where we were completely sheltered from the outside noise of the streets. The attention to detail extended from the beautiful decor to the exceptional service we received.
The rooms were spacious and very comfortable and the breakfast was fit for a king!
Thank you to John, Jane and Loubna for making our stay very memorable!
Also, the cake you organised for my birthday was absolutely delicious! Any idea where we could get one in the UK?!

Thanks to the owners and staff of this Riad we had a gentle, funny and very insightful introduction to Marrakech and Moroccan culture. They organised everything, from carriage rides and guided tours to the purchase of sweets... We only stayed two nights but will hopefully be back to this place of true hospitality - insha'Allah.

Even though Marrakesh wasn't really a highlight of my morocco trip, Riad Hikaya definitely was!
On top of that, Jane and John were awesome hosts who know exactly how a real Riad should be run. Great experience.

As the autumn/winter chill sets in, my mind inevitably wanders to thought of warmer climes, and a perfect stay at the Riad Hikaya. This Riad, which oozes with atmosphere and charm, is tucked inside the medina walls but within walking distance of the main square, and offers peace and tranquility, combined with the warmest of welcomes. The days started with wonderful breakfasts up on the roof terrace with great views over to the Atlas Mountains, followed by hours filled with exploration and discovery - John's knowledge of the city is excellent and he was keen to share this expertise either on a personalised tour or with recommendations of places to see, shop and eat, places which we simply would not have found left to our own devices. Returning to the Riad, a quick and refreshing dip in the courtyard pool was inevitably followed by relaxing on the roof terrace followed by simply delicious home made evening meals under a starry sky. Going to bed was a another treat - the rooms are sumptuous and traditional, giving a feeling of being somewhere very special. Oh to be there now!

PS System wont allow me put in the date before December 2012 - we actually stayed in April a couple of years ago.

Room Tip: All looked lovely.

We loved this Riad! Why? First, because the quality of the decor is exquisite both in terms of style and attention to detail. Secondly Riad Hikaya is the most peaceful and relaxing place to stay even though it is at the heart of the old city Medina. Thirdly John's hospitality is warm, considerate, and his knowledge of the city and culture is exceptional and fourthly the roof terrace is magical both in the morning for breakfast and in the evening for supper! The food is delicious home made and traditional and so fresh. The pool in the middle of the Riad is the perfect place to be after a day in the markets and streets of Marrakech and John, as well as being a superb host, was the perfect guide in the city the day he accompanied us. All in all the Riad is a real jewel in the bustling Medina, not to be missed!

I have stayed in Riad Hikaya on both a pleasure and business level. Nothing is too much trouble for the owner, John. Arrival to any airport can be fraught, however, John provides a smooth connection from the airport through the bustling hot Moroccan streets to the unique, tranquil, and exquisitely decorated accommodation that is The Riad Hikaya. On arrival you are greeted by John, and subjected to a warm welcome, amazing home cooked foods, and drinks. The traditional mint tea is quite refreshing after a flight! Of course a good selection of other refreshments are offered also. If you can picture all this in the most delightful ambiance. Amazing lanterns which gifts the walls with such intricate patterned lighting. Sumptuous! Just when you think it could not get any better, you are delighted by the roof terrace and its heady atmosphere of Marrakech, the vast starry sky, and swathes of traditional Moroccan fabrics, all lit beautifully. The bedrooms and en-suits are rather special. Traditional skills, colours, and textures have been beautifully juxtaposed with convenience and modern living, offering a truly comfortable yet cultural experience. The streets of Marrakech are a sight to behold. It is like no other place, steeped in its traditions. When your day out has ended you are happily tired with the knowledge of returning to Riad Hikaya and all its levels of accommodation. I cannot recommend enough. Rachel Simpson

Room Tip: All rooms are delightful.

Top quality accommodation and splendid furnishings with warm and friendly service, dinner under the stars, and real attention to detail from John, it is difficult to overpraise this boutique hotel.
The surroundings are ideal for a peaceful stay and yet with the exciting hustle and bustle of Marrakech only a few yards away. We look forward greatly to our next visit.
