We enjoyed a memorable long weekend escape to Marrakech, with this riad as our home base. Dar Les Cigognes was the perfect riad experience for our first trip to Morocco – full of charming traditional touches!

Loved – The beautiful décor throughout the riad (a photo opp at every turn!). The landscaped rooftop was the perfect spot to start the day with breakfast and end the evening with a nightcap. The daily breakfast (included in the room rate) - outstanding presentation (I ended up buying a set of blue/white pottery to take home with me to try and recreate the experience) and perfect selection (fruit, fresh squeezed OJ, café au lait, and a basket of breads/pastries). Location was outstanding – within the medina and within convenient walking distance to the key sights.

Disliked – Bathrooms were modern, however our shower didn’t drain correctly so we ended up bathing in inches of standing water each morning. Guest rooms don’t have proper door locks, so if you’re hyper concerned with safety this may not be the place for you. Our room (Berber), and others located on the ground floor, only offer windows facing the interior courtyard so it can be a bit dark.

Suggestions – Would have liked to be able to see 2-3 different rooms and then choose our preference. While we loved our Berber room, we were preoccupied with curiosity about what our other options might have been. I would suggest asking when you check in.

We very much enjoyed out stay at this riad. The location was great for taxi pick up as well as walking on our own to Jemma el Fna. The rooms are spacious and clean, with plenty of amenities. The air conditioning worked wonderfully and so did the bathroom facilities. There are many relaxing areas to sit and enjoy a drink or meal at the riad including the beautiful rooftop terrace with views of the charming storks. Before our arrival in Marrakech, the riad had set up some delicious meals for us and arranged transportation. They provided a map for getting around the medina on our own and also had a list of suggested shops. We highly recommend this riad.

Generally good located friendly small, clean riad. Rooms are not very spacious, but each individually furnished. We had a room at ground floor, called Harem. With no day light and VERY noisy, aggravating noises from the street and from patio. The furnishing in the bathroom very poor, towels hard and mangy. Room ok. Staff nice and helpful. For almost the same price we found other better riads in Marrakech. Regards tom

This review does not represent an accurate picture of a stay at Dar Les Cigognes. Sometimes a guest may have a picture in their mind that is so totally different than reality, that there is nothing that can be done to make them happy, and they look for fault where there isn't any.

We have fantastically plush bath towels and bed linen, and invest a small fortune in them--as has been noted by many other guests on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, during the week that this guest stayed we were using an outside laundry service as our own laundry was being moved from one location to another. This is now taken care of, and our towels are once again plush and soft as they are meant to be.

Dar Les Cigognes is a hotel that has been formed from two riads, traditional Arab houses. The essence of a riad is that it is built around a central courtyard, with all the rooms giving onto this central courtyard, and rarely with windows to the outside. This is true of every riad in Marrakech, as well as wherever riads are found throughout the world, from Spain to India. The practical reason for this type of construction is to regulate the extreme heat and to offer residents both quiet and privacy. The room that this guest stayed in has two sets of double windows giving onto a large central courtyard, so there is natural light, not "no natural light" as chocotom says.

The walls that separate this room from the street are 1 metre thick, so any noise that might come from the street is minimal, which I know because I have slept in this room myself.

We would have happily moved this guest to another room since he did not like it had he shared his disappointment with us. It is difficult to please someone who is looking for something different .

We were on our honeymoon and traveled almost 36 hours via car, plane and train to Marrakech. When we arrived at the train station, we were greeted by a member of Dar Les Cigognes' staff, who whisked us into the medina to the riad. The minute we walked in the building, we felt a wave of calm come over us. Mint tea, comfortable couches, a snack, a fountain bubbling and a friendly staff greeted us within five minutes of arrival. We had a standard room for three nights and a suite for two nights. Both rooms were lovely and were quiet, with the exception of a few occasional outside noises, to be expected in the heart of the riad. The roofdeck is spectacular, another oasis, with a great view of the storks perched on the Badi Palace walls across the street. Breakfast is served up here every morning, courtesy of Rashid, the riad's chef. Customer service at Dar Les Cigognes is incredible - every day, Marie, the General Manager, or another member of the staff would make dinner reservations, arrange a taxi pick-up, help us with excursions to the mountains, and arrange a guide to help us shop in the medina (which seemed frivolous but actually turned out to be very rewarding and helpful). This is the perfect place to relax and unwind, and feel at home while you're far away from home.

First time to Marrakech - my stay at Dar Les Cigognes couldn't have felt more at home; the staff's motto should be: "As you like it" because that is exactly what it was -- staff was the most accommodating and pleasant I have ever experienced and I have stayed at a few B&Bs, hotels (3-star and up) but the first time at a riad. The chef is great too -- if you decide to go I recommend you experience the cooking class and don't forget the wonderful mint tea. Nice location: within walking distance of the souks and also the Marrakech tour bus stop.

This gem of a hotel made my holiday in Marrakesh with my boyfriend. It was complete luxury.
The staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us. The room was clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. The roof terrace had fantastic views and they served a great mint tea.
A wonderful experience, and would recommend it to everyone.
