“Avoid the children from hell POPPY and THEO”
Reviewed 29 November 2009

Great hotel and fantastic staff.

Nothing too much trouble. We paid and upgraded on arrival to the Romane suite which was very nice. Ususal problem of ants in a hot country but not a huge issue. Heating a bit hit and miss and needed as the mornings were quite cold. Seemed unable to get the time clock right.

Great driver service takes you and collects you from the city/golf courses /restaurants.

Hammam disapointing as you could not use it if someone was having a massage as you have to go through treatment room to get there. Does not say that on the booking info. Three times could not use it as treatments being done.

Not really as advertised and that is something i particularly like to use and not when it is avaialable !!!!

That should be changed and treatments done elsewhere so as not to interfere with access to sauna and hammam for other guests.

Food very good but a little pricey as were drinks.

Described as relaxing get away from it all kind of place which it is until two of the most precocious children Poppy and Theo along with there oblivious parents arrived.

The parents simply did not care about the screaming and shouting and winging as soon as the children got to the pool.

They must have thought it fantastic that within a short time of getting to the pool area they had the pool and garden to themselves within ten minutes.

THAT WAS BECAUSE EVERYBODY HAVING A NICE QUIET and relaxing TIME LEFT AND WENT TO THERE ROOMS because they could not stand the noise of these two children !!!!

Even from the balcony in there room the whaling screaming and winging went on and could be heard across the whole hotel.

As we had a suite away from the pool we retired behind the walls but the noise was still awful. Several times the staff came and apologised for the noise but nobody did anything about it.

Thank goodness we ony had breakfast once beside them !!!

Aziz ( mananger) if you are reading this you should either deal with this kind of thing or not take small children as we spoke to other guests who were quite simply fed up with the parents and children from hell !!!!!

The hotel needs to decide what it is !!!!

I would not return to the hotel and take that chance. We booked following the reviews that it was a small romantic and quiet hotel to get away from it all.

The last 5 days were far from that !!!

That really spolt our holiday and had it not been for the fact that i had a stomach bug we would have changed hotels.

Dear Sir,

First of all, thank you for your comment, as they are all important for us and a way towards improvement.

I am very sorry about the "nuisance", in general as the hotel is big and room well separated , even when we have kids, even when they are loud, you do not hear them. We will definitely be more careful in that matter and think about a solution for this.

For the hammam, or steam bath, it is indeed in the spa area, but when it is booked in advance, it does not interfer with the massage or anything. You can indeed book a massage, book a hammam and that time is all yours.

The heater of your room is independent of the main building, if you wanted to have a warmer room it was just a matter of letting us know.

I am very sorry that you would not recommend us but I understand your position as well.

All customers are important to us and it is very RARE, and I mean really RARE that the harmony and quietness of the house is perturbated. We do are a Romantic hotel devoted to quietness and relaxation and be sure that I will make sure it will stay that way.

You should have let us know and I am sure we would have been able to resolve that problem before your departure.
I do hope that your stomach bug is gone and that you feel better.

Regards

S Abtan

After a delayed flight and cariying two young children we were not the happiest travellers to be arriving at Dar Ayniwen at 2am. The large gates were opened and the hotel staff were standing waiting to greet us. the entrance was romantically it by candles, we were warmly greeted, our luggage was whisked away, we were given warm tea and sweet patries and given a quick tour of the hotel, the smell of the garden was amazing - what a reception, needless to say our mood was uplifted immediately.

We stayed a short week and spent most of our time around the hotel. There is no doubt about it this is a beautiful little place, but what really makes this special is their attention to service. The staff are fantastic, we were able to eat at any time and anywhere in the hotel/room/poolside (as long as notified in advance) as we have two boys 3 and 18 months this was a huge perk, allowing us to eat as early at 5.30pm while most restaurants will not open until 7.30pm., The staff were great with our boys too, happy to play with them and take them for walks in the garden to see the birds and tortoises.

The overall feel is a stay with very hospitable friends.

Our only request would be to have a proper shower in the room, we stayed in the Colonnade suite and it had a shower hose attached to the bath. Though this will not prevent us coming visiting again.
A bientot.

I went with my mother for a four night stay . The suite was very spacious with lovely antique furnishings , not having to use taxis was just brilliant , we chose to eat in every night and really enjoyed some morrocan specialities. The gardens were beautiful , it was lovely and relaxing being able to sit in such a tranquil setting , we go away together every year and this is the first time that we are considering returning . A fantastic experience.

Our stay at Dar Ayniwen was fantastic from start to finish! We received a very warm welome and guided tour on arrival and our suite had a luxuurious yet traditional feel, with great attention to detail. The hotel itself only has seven guest rooms/suites, so it feels boutiquey but all the tucked away lounge areas in the main house and the wonderful gradens create an air of spacious calm. There is also a lovely swimming pool and on-site hammam to help you relax and unwind. The staff were faultless, with Aziz the manager and the waiting staff being particularly impressive and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was also consistently excellent, with produce being brought in fresh every day from the local food markets. Being able to use the 'house cars' to and from anywhere in the city was another huge bonus as it removed the hassle of tackling public transport or braving driving on the local roads! All in all, Dar Ayniwen is an exceptional hotel and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Marrakech.

I could not find fault with Dar Ayniwen and highly recommend it . We have visited 3 times over the last 5 years and it gets better every time we go . The staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble . my 2 small children were treated like royalty & had amazing meals cooked for them .
The food is fabulous . Breakfast is a fantastic spread and the portions are very generous . lunch and dinner are prepared according to your wishes and are wonderful affairs .....rose petals on the table etc .
We stay in the galaxy suite which is huge and very luxurious and works very well with the 2 children .
Any request given is handled promptly and with a lovely smile .
I highly recommend Dar Ayniwen . it is very luxurious , very friendly and a lovely oasis in the middle of marrakech.
Thank you Aziz , Stephan , Lamia and all the wonderful staff ....hope to see you all again soon

We spent a week in Marrakech for our anniversary, with the first 3 nights inside the medina and the next 4 nights at Dar Ayniwen. It's hard to call this hotel a "hotel" as you really feel like the most pampered guest in a rich relative's amazing home. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Aziz and Lamia with fresh mint tea and beautiful Moroccan pastries then given a tour around the house. The entire home is filled with gorgeous vintage travel posters and antiques and collectibles from Stephane's father's travels. Again, unlike anything you'd find at even a nice five-star boutique hotel. And while there are only 8 suites here, you have all the amenities of a large luxury hotel - wonderful pool and plenty of teak chaise lounges, 24-hour room service, a beautiful hammam spa, and on-demand car service to anywhere in Marrakech.

We were traveling with our young daughter, so we needed a suite, and the Galaxy suite exceeded all expectations. We couldn't believe the entire space was ours! We had an enormous living room with a large plasma tv, dvd, sattelite channels. The master bedroom was also very spacious, with an American king-sized bed (UK super king) and a nice sized changing area and generously proportioned bathroom. The room also had two enormous terraces, one overlooking the pool and gardens - the best view in the hotel! We ate dinner from this balcony the first two nights overlooking the uplit palm trees and lantern-lit pool. I'm sure any of the hotel's suites are beautiful, but we really felt like the Galaxy suite was special, and perhaps the best!

As for the service and staff, they were extremely warm, but professional. One thing that really took us by surprise was how much Moroccans love (and I mean LOVE) children. The young women in housekeeping were a real treat for my daughter, because they loved to shower her with attention and give her hugs and kisses every time they saw her. And any wish we asked for was granted, and even anticipated. For instance, when we asked for champagne glasses (we had brought a couple of our own nice bottles from duty free and kept them in the fridge) not only did they bring chilled glasses, but also a Taittinger champagne bucket that matched our champagne, and finger nibbles (olives, cashews, pistachios) gratis. We also went back into the medina for a little shopping, and because we were with our pre-school age daughter, asked if the driver could wait for us so we wouldn't have to wait for them to come back and get us. The driver graciously waited for us for over an hour! Truly a class-act boutique hotel with 5-star staff. Sure, you pay for it, but it's worth every penny and then some.

The grounds are absolutely stunning, especially when you remind yourself that this is a private family home - a gorgeous large lawn surrounds the pool area and beyond, with walking paths along the sides of the gardens which afford a wander amongst Stephane's aviary, citrus and olive trees, and a cactus garden. The pond was filled with 100's of colorful koi and interesting statues mingled throughout the gardens.

The food was also delicious and generous. Every morning you were asked if you planned on dining with them because they went to the shops to buy fresh ingredients every day. There was a wide selection of Moroccan dishes, as well as French and continental cuisine. They were always willing to make something scrumptious for our daughter, and we were able to feed her dinner at 6pm, then eat our own elegant and romantic dinner on our balcony or on the terrace just below our room later in the evening. We did go back into the medina one night for our anniversary dinner (Lamia graciously babysat our daughter), and while it was nice to have a night out, the food at Dar Ayniwen was better. You really don't need to leave the hotel!

I could go on and on, but can't say enough good things about Dar Ayniwen. I will mention two negatives - 1) there wasn't a stand-up shower in our room (there is a hand-held shower nozzle in the very large bathtub - common for the French and some Europeans, but not Brit's or Americans), and 2) Out suite door and the one adjacent to ours was locked with padlocks, which could be quite noisy rattling against the wooden front door of the adjacent room. But neither of these issues should cause any hesitation against staying here.
