“Theres better than this available in Marrakesh”
Reviewed 15 July 2010

We booked a budget holiday (3day break) this time having been to Marrakesh once before and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We thought it worth taking the kids to see a real country and basically glad we did. however last time we use the Tikkida Gradens hotel which was fabulous....El Andalous looks similar as you enter...wide foyers fountains etc. however the reality is not the same. The place is very tired....pool ok, but tiles worn and missing around the edge. well tended though. The first night we arrived late due to our plane being delayed and diverted so the room we were given was awful, clearly they had given ours away to someone else. At 3am I had to complain that the aircon wasn't working...thats no joke when the temperature even at night must have been 30+ degrees...then an arab engineer came to look at it...basically it had live wires hanging out of the heat exchange unit so it didn't take a rocket scientist to see why it didn't work, well the engineer couldn't sort it, gave it a kick and walked off. The guy on the desk promised us an upgraded room if we went to see him the next day at 11am. so that was that. We sweated our way through the night, the chappie wasn't on duty next day as promised (no surprise there), to his credit he had passed a message to his colleague who told us we weren't entitled to an upgrade as promised so they gave us the same room with an aircon unit that worked a bit (my son who has just read this review wants me to say it worked "rubbish"). The real shame is morocco is an amazing place but you get these places with individuals who seem intent on making life as awkward as possible....The towels are another example...when we were moved rooms we had no towels, I went out to ask the maid who was nearby for some towels, she told me later, later.....she had a trolley with about 300 on it, why for the love of god not just give me a couple there and then?! Ok later it was....8 hrs later that evening my wife had wet hair and went in search for some towels, got told no by the same maid...she eventually wrestled one out of the maids vice like grip but literally had to get upset with the lady to get that. The poor maid was down to a trolley of only 299 clean towels now! Perhaps she was the equivalent of a "bag lady" in the UK, you know someone who is a bit mad , and just collects towels for a hobby, nothing to do with cleaning rooms in the hotel. Anyway joking aside, we never got any more than this one towel for a family of 4 for the whole break! Why, still eludes me we saw the same eff'ing maid with a ton of clean towels every day, despite asking 3 more times. In the end we hired some from down by the pool and the maid didn't like us taking them into our room and tried giving me a lecture on it. My pigeon french was good enough to tell her to go away, get a life that sort of thing and if she gave us some towels in the first place WE WOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED THE BLO*DY ONES FROM THE POOL WOULD WE?! Ok rant over....that aside there was a man in the foyer serving mint tea in the day which was nice. The lady exchanging money at the front desk served me 50% of the time and then took delight in turning me away the other 50% (after changing money for a french chap right in front of me!) attitude is what ruins this hotel rather than the facilities....i recommend another hotel like Tikkida gardens, on a budget this was ok ish but the staff were in the main awkward, lazy etc... except the mint tea guy...he was nice (focusing on the positive here!) Don't let this put you off Morocco its amazing but really don't use this hotel. I am a nice well adjusted polite Brit who likes other cultures, please believe me this report is a truthful account of El Andalous. I don't complain about much and have never written a review before let alone a stinker like this one but if I can save someone else an experience like this then at least some good has come out of my experience. Happy Holidays!

This hotel was nice, we spent a week hre 14-21 june. They understand English, however a basic knowledge and understanding of French and Arabic definitely helps.

It was very clean also, there were about millions of staff for every little thing, and we had on our floor a maid who never seemed to leave the hotel!1

The reception staff are very helpful especially the women who provides excursions and information near the concierge. They have na in depth knowledge on almost every location within the city, and how much everything costs.

We went bed and breakfast, the food is quite nice. There were no complaints from us, and you HAVE TO TRY THE crepes(locall known as RIFAS i think)

The swimming pool is cleaned daily and is of a good quality.
It is defeinitely value for money,

However one or two things bad were that if your coming from UK or France remember to tip the porter if HE takes your stuff in, otherwise just take it in yourself and say no thanks.
A tip to the bar guy every now and then (1dh or 2dh) will keep them on friendly terms with you. We went during the World Cup and everyone was watching football and were in a good mood!

Our rooms were impressive, I was pleasantly surpised. They were nice and clean with a good sized balconies. The only problem we encountered was when our AC leaked a bit of water, but this was fixed within 5 minutes.

Always be courteous to members of staff

All in all a pleasant stay, and its about a 15 -20 min walk from the old and new city

We stayed a week this month. The public areas are superb. Lots of marble, brass and chandaliers and the staff are extremely helpful. This includes reception, waiters, pool attendants and room cleaners ! We had a balcony overlooking the pool( which is excellent) but couldn't sit out due to pigeon droppings ! The bedroom was "tired" and needing some painting but it had 2 double beds and an en-suite. The included breakfast was to die for, with 5 types of croissants, pancakes cooked as you watch, yoghurt, salads etc... Considering what we pauid, it was extremely good value for money and we would recommend it.

we were there for 4 nights in June.
This is one of the worse hotel i ever stayed. It look good from outside. but once you step in you realise that this place need a complete revamp. dusty, worn out curtains and carpets.
the rooms are medium size, has a separate toilet, and the septic tank leaked every time u flushed. The bath drain kept filling up while u have a shower. no need to complain, as either they dont understand, or they act like they dont.
The bed sheets were clean , but worn out. had some holes in them.
TV was limited to mostly french and arabic channels, but picture werent very good.
Breakfast was not very good either, limited to baguettes , the croissant and french pastry were not fresh. there was a lady making pancake(awful) , and a moroccon puff pastry bread. that was nice.
scramble egg were watery with no taste. they had boiled egg. My husband requested fried egg one morning. they told him to have the scramble egg.
they had semolina soup with milk, it was salty, and made me feel sick after a quick taste. cereals were like cheapest brand u can get. it was like card board.
There seem to be sex workers in the hotel.
we asked for transfer from airport, and we had to share with another customer and his escort who had been waiting at the airport.
And when we were checking it, the reception staff was speaking in french , and asking him to fill all the paper work , and saying she will get in trouble if the police does a check..( they didnt realise we could understand french!)
this hotel is in a good location. you can walk to most of the attraction. only 20 min walk from both old town and new town. But there nicer reputable hotels around.

Forget the 4 star rating. This hotel is a shabby, run down 3 star at best. Reception staff were generally helpful. Breakfast staff were lovely. This hotel is desperately in need of refurbishment. The shower curtains have years of grime on them. But hey, you get what you pay for, and at £70 a night this hotel represents fairly reasonable value for money. The location is perfect. Quiet wealthy residential/hotel area only 15 mins from the city centre. For good, cheap nearby food go to Cafe Extrablatt which is a 5 min walk from the hotel. The staff here are wonderful. Just head out of reception, pass the telephone kiosk on the corner and walk straight ahead up Rue Abou El Abbes Sebti. There is also a very stylish, but amazingly cheap Moroccan restaurant a few doors down from the cafe called Comptoir Darna on Rue Echouhada.

The lobby is spectacular but it doesn't make up for the worn bed sheets and lumpy mattress in our room. We stayed in room 326, triple occupancy room as part of a large tour group. The hotel is located in Hivernage, 30 minutes away on foot from Koutoubia Mosque.

Our room 326 is a 2 bedroom layout. One room had a balcony and a queen bed, the other room had 2 queen beds and a window. They overlook the front of the hotel. The TV is located in the room with the queen bed. There was AC in both rooms and both rooms were poorly lit. There was no fridge and no in-room safe.

The toilet was in it's own room with the tub, bidet and sink in another. The bathroom had plenty of counter space and was brightly lit. The showerhead could use a bit of cleaning as the water couldn't flow freely due to all the grime. The hairdryer was quite weak.

There was hot breakfast (oatmeal and some kind of soup) along with quite a large selection of croissants and breads as well as cold cuts. The best part is the freshly made msemmen. Drizzle with honey and it's like a taste of heaven. The coffee was good one day and bland another.
