This Riad is absolutely beautiful and I would defy anyone to find a problem here. It was absolutely breathtakingly stunning. When we arrived we were brought through this big door into a courtyard with orange trees and two wee tortoises. I only knew we were actually outside because I could hear the birds singing - we were brought a drink before we were shown to our rooms. The rooms are immaculate and so Moroccan - they really are the stuff that dreams are made of. The toiletries are exquisite. You walk around this Riad and you feel like nobody else is there but I am sure we were being watched (in a good way) as if we left our room and came back - it would have been turned down - or our dirty dishes would disappear as if my magic - there really is something magical about this place. When we arrived late at night we sat on the rooftop and listened to the call to prayer - you would never really have to leave the riad as you can watch and listen and smell everything from here. If you do tear yourself away to visit the souks - then be sure to pick up one of the beautiful baskets left by the door to carry your shopping in. All I can say is don't think twice about going to Riad El Fenn - it may be more costly at times than some of the other Riads but the experience will stay with you forever. Just think of it as your own private home as it feels like it - Enjoy - just don't tell me you're going - I would turn green with envy - even just for one more amazing El Fenn Breakfast!

It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different - a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior. ... more less
