Where to start? Well the good stuff deserves praise. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fabulous bolthole in which to escape the hustle and bustle of downturn Marrakech. We stayed for 5 nights in the deluxe room with private roof terrace and plunge pool. We both thought the room and Riad were lovely. Really relaxed vibe in the Riad and the staff were charming (Mohammed deserves special mention). Our room was simply stunning and utterly decadent to have our own roof terrace and plunge pool. We tended to spend our mornings lounging around sun tanning followed by an afternoon of exploring. All in all we returned to the UK well rested.
However we both admit to a high level of frustration with the Riad. Paying top dollar I think deserves excellence. The place needs better management as lots of little things are not adequately addressed which when added together leave one disappointed! In our opinion it is unacceptable for water to not be replaced in the room. Dirty glasses were only replaced when asked for. The room cleaning was cursory. The heated pool in the courtyard remained unheated despite promises. In discussions with the manager she recommended a shop in the new town for us to visit. When told we planned to go that afternoon no mention was made that all shops are closed on a Sunday. The restaurant recommendations were very average, which surprised us given how well we had eaten on a previous trip. Lots of little gripes but given the stunning Riad we just felt frustrated.
All in all we would return but if the Riad wants to improve the manager/s need to step it up.

It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different - a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior. ... more less
