“Riad el Fenn is magical!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2012

I keep going back to Riad el Fenn. Maybe it's the art or the perfect setting inside the old city, but what really stands out is the personalised service. Although it is has expanded into a luxurious "super-riad", it has never lost its charm and feels like home every time I walk through the front door. I intend on continuing to be a frequent guest and it is the only place I'd recommend to stay in Marrakech for a truly exceptional experience.

I traveled with friends, and the staff made every effort to ensure our time in Marrakech was stellar. From the morning coffee and tea outside your door to afternoon tea and sweets in the verdant courtyard, you are made to feel honored and welcome. Great staff all around, and they will connect you with whatever day trips and experiences you are interested in... each booking with a reputable and professional service. Above and beyond any expectation for attentive, respectful and thoughtful service. The rooms and open spaces are simply gorgeous, and the location perfect for seeing all aspects of the Medina on foot. If you are there for a time, the limited lunch and dinner menu and same breakfast daily is a drawback. In all, highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your great review and feedback. Good to hear you enjoyed the recommendations made.

We absolutely do agree we need to bring more variety to our served menu's so we are doing our homework; the last 2 weeks a separate entrance has been created to the restaurant, which will be opened to the public in September. We then start serving a daily changing menu.

Furthermore an open kitchen is being created on the roof to serve our guest an 'a la carte' breakfast.

Again thank you for your wonderful feedback and we hope to see you back soon!

warm regards, willem

There's one huge problem with Riad El Fenn, it's just so difficult leave. Once you step through the door of the riad the fast speed of modern life slips away and you find yourself embracing the mellow pace of Riad El Fenn.

The Riad is beautiful. Luscious greenery, sunny spots for sun bathing and quiet nooks for relaxing can be found through-out. The charm of the building is matched by the charm of the staff. Nothing was too much for them and it felt more like being welcomed into someone's home rather then staying in a commercial hotel.

For me, the highlight was taking a cooking class with the Chef. We visited the local food market, saw him haggle and left with the ingredients to make his mum's recipe for lamb and quince tagine. Back in the kitchen it was fun to watch him work, get involved and see the kitchen staff in action. Best of all the food tasted fantastic.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed room 14 as we just redid it!

Spa has now a beautiful turquoise colour and a new spa menu. Concerning breakfast, it was good you pointed out the limited breakfast selection. We are currently creating an open kitchen at the roof to be able to start serving an la carte breakfast.

Thanks again for your kindness and time and we hope to see you soon so you can check out the alterations.

warm regards, willem

With my girlfriend we were for some days in Riad El Fenn and it's just wonderful. Beginning from the exquisite Client care they always take, followed by the perfect situation close to all the Medina places to visit and enjoy and, finally, with the perfect pools combination between shadow and sun. It's a magical environment to live in for some days and switch off the entire body.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in Morocco and it was absolutely magical. The hotel upgraded our room, which was fabulous. On our first night, we asked for help making dinner reservations. Not only did the hotel help select a great restaurant, but they arranged for a complimentary cake for desert that said "Congrats." Riad El Fenn's rooftop has fabulous views of Marrakech & is an amazing place to watch the sunset and drink a glass of wine or mint tea. The hotel is modern yet authentic with breathtaking architecture and art that transports you. The location can't be beat and the hotel will recommend an amazing guide (we recommend Moustapha) to help you navigate the souk.

great to hear you enjoyed your stay at El Fenn so much and we passed on your compliments to Mustapha.

What a wonderful pictures by the way. As our official ones were quite outdated we just had some new ones taken by Joanne Vestey, which we posted both here and on our Facebook page.

Again thank you for your time, effort and most of all kind words and of course hope to see you for your anniversary!

With 20 individually styled rooms and suites, a four-bedroom private riad, 3 swimming pools and its own hammam spa, El Fenn is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city. Our story began with two friends on the hunt for a small riad to buy as a holiday home. It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different - a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior. ... more   less
