A little hidden away and you wonder how you will ever find it again after following the taxi driver through a maze of alleyways but once through the door you are in an oasis of calm. we slept so well with hardly any noise as there is no traffic noise. the rooftop terrace was beautifully laid out with areas of shade along with the sun baked loungers. the staff were pleasant and helpful. It was November when we went but the rooms were not too cold and they provided a plug in heater which we did not use.

Room Tip: all the rooms looked beautiful

We stayed here for 3 days on our trip to Marrakech and it was absolutely wonderful. I loved how authentic of an experience we recieved, and the staff were beyond wonderful. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here - it was clean, peaceful and everyone was fantastic. We used the spa as well and had a wonderful experience.

The rooftop terrace was amazing, and the rooms were very cosy. We ate several times in the restaurant upstairs (as well as several reputable restaurants) and it was some of the best food we ate on our whole trip. Everyone at the riad makes you feel like it is your home away from home, and we appreciated the humor!

This was a very authentic quaint spa hotel, and an experience of a very pleasant and individual Riad. The taxi could only get so near the hotel, then the driver walked us round through alley ways to the front door (we did wonder where on earth we were going to, but have faith!). When you go through the front door, it was a lovely place with a beautiful smell and ambience. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and had character/personality too. We really enjoyed this stay and would definately go back again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the garden area on ground floor, and it was cool and peaceful.

Very nice Riad in a quiet corner of the Medina. The rooms are very stylish, the staff super friendly and the roof terrace a nice place to relax from the busy city. Would recommend it to all travelers!

Room Tip: The suite has 2 bedrooms and a living room. Very spacious

I wanted a hotel that gave you a real Moroccan feel rather than a hotel where you could of been anywhere in the world. This Riad did not disappoint... beautifully decorated in traditional style with an amazing roof top terrace. Yes it was down a few alley ways and yes we did get lost, but true to their word, a quick call and the staff met us to guide us back... but after a day it was fine. Just as I have read in a previous review, the answer is really in your body language. We found once you knew your way and was confident you didn't get pestered at all by locals wanting to guide you back for a fee and not necessarily in the right direction. In fact we found after the first day the local people to be warm and friendly.
Breakfast was simple but good, evening meal was ok but the choice of the day. You would probably go out to eat but it was good that the Riad did offer something.
The Hammand and massage was a really nice and friendly experience. The staff here at the Riad Dar el Aila really make you feel welcome, are friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this Riad to some of my friends... but not to the ones that are less adventurous and not bothered with the interesting culture of this country. I loved it here and will return again one day. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality.

4th visit ti Marrakesh, have previously stayed in Les Jardins de la Koutoubia, Jnane leila, and Moroccan house hotel. I wanted to experience staying in a riad and I was not disappointed.

Christophe arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and he showed us right to hotel door. We were greeted by a young man who showed us to our room up one lot of steps to the rooftop and then down another set of steps to a courtyard area where we found our delightful little room which was softly lit by pretty lilac animal skin lamps. Had a look around the room and was mortified to see the bathroom area had no door. (poor hubby had to leave the room every time I wanted to 'go')

We went straight up to the rooftop to lie in the very warm afternoon sun before heading out to the souks. We ate a the busiest looking stall in the El fna square and very nice it was too! Tried to find our way back to the hotel and got completely lost . Many young men were eager to show us the way and I'm afraid we had to succumb. He did ask for a small token at the end but we only gave him 20 dirhams, he asked for 50 but we declined. He took the money and wished us well.
Next day we again relaxed on the rooftop and witnessed many sheep being sacrificed for the celebration of Eid.
We ate at the hotel the second night and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are a few very friendly cats and they sit under your table just like a dog.
Third day we ventured out with the intention of dining at the Indian restaurant within Les jardins de la koutoubia hotel. We walked the main road way which was much easier and first of all had a spicy burger in Mcdonalds and then a beer in a bar before strolling back to the souks in 38 degrees to purchase a lantern. Then off to have yet another enjoyable meal.
Very much enjoyed our stay in the riad and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
We would definitely return to this hotel, it is charming and ideally located for a real cultural experience.

We have just returned from a city break in Marrakech. We stayed four nights at this Riad.
Taxi from airport dropped us at the nearest point to the Riad and the driver was kind enough to accompany us to the door which we would NEVER have been able to find ourselves. It was through a very narrow maze of alleyways, thus this was the beginning of our Marrakech experience.
Firstly, I am being completely honest, and first impressions of the Riad weren't too good. The door opens into the reception area and swimming pool, which is more just a water feature than a swimming pool. The young man who greeted us explained about the dangers of Marrakech, which was obviously good to know but not really what you want to hear. He was of course quite correct to warn of the copious amount of hustlers and basically just guys out to cheat you out of your hard earned holiday cash. BE WARNED. DO NOT LISTEN or pay ANY attention to guys who stop and try to direct you around. Hide your maps and try to look cool and act like you know exactly where you are going, even though you haven't a scooby. We overheard a couple at the Riad and it sounded like they got lost and handed over 1000DM to get back to the Riad.
We booked our Riad through BOOKING.COM and got it for an amazing price, but the rooms we got reflected that low price, because they weren't nice rooms. Ours in particular was a dark, horrible room, with a shower room and toilet which was at window height! Very strange. We did however get clean towels and the room cleaned every day.
We had dinner at the Riad on the first night which was home cooked and lovely. The roof terrace had plenty of sitting areas and was kept clean. The cats and kittens were a delight. The flies were, on the other hand a complete pain in the neck, but no creepy crawlies.

The main square is basically in a straight line from the street at the end of the Riad. DO NOT go through the souks to reach the square. You will get lost and lots of hassle. Small children are pests and ask for money and you can't trust anyone. Do not be fooled.

The big souks are just off the main square and are absolutely worth a look. They are like Aladdins Caves full of treasure. The Square at night is a must, but only once! We visited a restaurant on the square. Unfortunately, my husband and son are STILL experiencing the effects of the meal.

Marrakech is the craziest place we have ever visited and we have been in some places! I would not recommend it for more than 3 or 4 nights. There is very little to do apart from the Square and the Souks, with the latter becoming a pest because of the constant need for haggling.

Riad Dar El Aila was good for what we paid, but we would not return to the Riad or Marrakech.

Once experienced, better forgotten!
