“great place to stay”
Reviewed 16 February 2014

We really enjoyed our stay, two days then another two days after our desert trip. The Riad is all that other people have said, very conveniently placed and very welcoming. Everything worked well, including heating ( very necessary on February nights) and an excellent shower. We liked the extra touches of rose petals and the information folder could not have been bettered, almost everything you wanted to know and could have been afraid to ask, even down to how to tip the staff! We had one lunch and one dinner in the Riad and both were excellent - beer and wine available too. The staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful and efficient , whatever was asked of them though only Erradi spoke good English. Just two very small grouses ( oh dear) Breakfast was never prepared until after we had appeared, which meant that an 8 am breakfast became 8.15., which was a bit nerve wracking at times. The other grouse is that sometimes the management was totally absent! Alan and Malika were away, and Touria was only there briefly - though when she was present she was unfailingly helpful and very pleasant indeed, trying to sort out our arrangements for being picked up etc.

I stayed three nights with my 18 year old son before and after a trip to M'Hamid in the desert. It really is an oasis of care and friendliness even with Allan not beeing able to be there ( we had a skype conversation). Everybody there is so helpful, friendly and caring. We were there in hot July during Ramadan which is a difficult time to travel and for the people there, too. We never felt this in Riad El Zahor. One of the best times I had in Marrocco was sleeping on the rooftop and woke when the sun came out and the muezzins from all surrounding mosques were singing.

Room Tip: All the rooms a very tasteful. We stayed in the ground room next to the splashpool, which was good f...

What a wonderful place to stay and amazing value. An oasis of beauty and calm in the centre of the medina. We were a group of nine and had this gorgeous Riad to ourselves. We all agreed that our holiday of four nights would not have been so enjoyable were it not for the warmth of the welcome, kindness, useful information and amazing hospitality under the management of our hosts..British born Allan and his delightful French wife and her sister. We were told to treat our surroundings as home and it could not have been a more comfortable one! We were greeted with smiles by all the helpful staff and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. At our request Allan had arranged a pick up from the airport as well as the return arrangements and so from the moment of our arrival everything went smoothly. He also organised a gala evening for us complete with musicians and dancer. It was amazing. We ate at the Riad, where the food (especially the breakfasts where freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade yoghurt and melt in the mouth pancakes were a highlight) was truly delicious, but also dined at a local restaurant recommended by Allan which was superb. A terrific day was also spent in the Atlas mountains, again organised by Allan. Our spotlessly clean rooms and lovely bathrooms were beautifully furnished. We ate a superb "light" lunch one day under the tent on the roof terrace, which provided a tranquil place to relax after the hustle and bustle of the souks. Our whole experience made our first visit to Marakech unforgettable for all the right reasons. We were sad to leave and will no doubt return.

Our relationship with the riad began before we even left England. Allan responded with good humour (and useful information) to my many emailed questions. From the point of our arrival at the riad, centrally located in the medina, to our departure 5 days later, you could not have asked for more helpful and hospitable hosts. All the rooms were beautifully furnished, beds were comfortable, and showers had plenty of hot water. Seemingly, no request was too much for Allan and his staff, and Allan was also a knowledgeable guide, taking us into the souk to show us good places to purchase items (and also pointing out not so good places!) Several of the group went to the cookery school and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, while the rest of us got to eat the results, which were delicious.
I would unreservedly recommend this riad if you are looking for somewhere that will positively enhance your holiday experience.

Room Tip: They're all good but we stayed in Talilit,on the first floor which was lovely.

The Riad is in the centre of the Medina with the souks less than 10 minutes walk away. The beautiful building is steeped in history which Allan is happy to explain. On arrival we were told to treat the Riad as our home, we were not confined to our bedroom we ate breakfast in the courtyard, sunned ourselves on the roof terrace, and sat by the open fire in the lounge on a chilly evening sipping wine! Cleanliness was of the highest standard and towels, robes and some toiletries supplied. Allan, Malika and Touria and there staff could not be more helpful, available day and night. Breakfast was a real treat with fresh fruit and daily home baked Moroccan delicacies. An information pack reviewed restaurants, maps were provided and we were taken to The Square to acclimatise us on the first day. I was nervous as I travelled with my daughter but I need not be we were given tips which really helped us appreciate Marrakech & although neither of us have a sense of direction we found our way around and had fun. We stayed 7 nights. We enjoyed the cookery lesson at the Riad including shopping for ingredients and our family loved the lemon & olive chicken. I thoroughly recommend staying at El Zohar and would love to return .

Room Tip: We stayed in the twin room but glimpsed in others and they were all decorated to the same high stand...

What a fabulous place to stay, centrally located, less than 5 minutes walk from the Souks yet amazingly peaceful within the riad. Allan, Malika & their staff went out of their way to make us feel so at home, always on hand to guide us in the right direction with helpful tips and information and at the end of each day, there was always a warm welcome home and genuine interest in our daily adventures. The traditionally decorated rooms are comfortable, spacious & spotlessly clean and we were encouraged to feel at home in every part of the riad. We enjoyed most of our meals on the roof terrace, colourful breakfasts of orange juice, fruit, yogurt, homemade pancakes, cake and then, having ordered our meal for the evening, the wonderful scent of the herbs & spices drifting up from the kitchen whilst it was being prepared. All in all a great week, we felt safe, well looked after and left feeling like old friends.

This Riad is superb. In the middle of the Medina and on the edge of the Souks the friendly English and Moroccan owners and equally willing staff will greet you and advise you on each step of your visit. With only five rooms (and we had the Riad to ourselves for two days) there is plenty of time to interact with guests and for a very personal service. Nothing is too much trouble. Excellent advice was given from day one - from what to see to dealing with shop owners. We found everything we wanted within walking distance. The Riad is used as a house and home from home so guests have access to every space from the salon with it's welcome evening fire (at least in January!) to the roof terraces with both shade and open spaces for sun bathing. Tea and coffee is dispensed on demand by the lovely staff and is free. The meal and lunch we had at the Riad was great value and traditionally prepared. The shower in our room was great and the beds comfortable. I have no complaints at all and look forward to returning at some point and renewing my acquaintance with Allan and Malika. Brilliant fun! Thanks to all concerned. I would certainly recommend this to anyone but perhaps especially those visiting this wonderful city for the first time.

Room Tip: The rooms are all slightly different. Go to the Riad website and have a look. I don't think I wo...
