We booked our stay at Riad Amira through Hipmarrakech.com and stayed for 2 nights before moving on to Villa Amira (which is run by 2 sisters of Riad Amira owner Alix).
Prior to our holiday we had been provided (by email) with a map and directions for how to find the Riad (many thanks to Amanda at Hipmarakech.com for your assistance) and this was very accurate and helpful as the Riad is tucked away in a narrow street of the busy Rue de la Kasbah.
Our stay was during the low season period just after New Year and the Riad was therefor only part full and the owners Tim & Alix were themselves away on holiday. The staff who looked after us were very friendly and helpful and provided breakfast and tea/coffee on the roof terrace if requested.
Breakfasts were lovely and included yoghurt, croissants, bread, coffee and set you up for the day.
Riad Amira is a great base for exploring the southern Medina area of the city including the Saadian Tombs & El Badi Palace (recommended).

Stayed at Riad Amira for 8 nights in early October and had a very pleasant time.

We had arranged a taxi to meet us at the airport through the owners Tim and Alix and yes it did turn up - cost 100 dirhams though they tried to charge 150 but we had already checked what the price was.

First impression was 'what the bloody hell have we booked' as you are dropped off in a side street with locals milling everywhere and then taken down even smaller alleyways until you come to a door next to an empy building site - the door was Riad Amira. Once inside however everything changed and you are transported into a tranquil oasis.

We had to wait a while for our room Esmeralda to be ready but we had arrived early so didn't mind. The room was great a big double bed and a third bed which was used as a dumping ground, very big bathroom and plenty of storage space.

The whole place was spotless and the ladies which run the Riad are a credit to it as they do a wonderful job and are very fiendly and accommodating at all times.

Location wise it's next to the Saadian Tombs and the Kasbah Mosque to it's easy to tell a taxi where to drop you off.

Couple of bits of feedback for the owners:

A location map in each room would be useful to show us where we are and how to get to the main places (square etc) - during our stay 2 couples were unable to find the square on the first day.

A price list and what is available drink wise and also details of what the ladies will cook for you at either lunchtime or evening - it's alright them asking what you want but if you dont know what they have or can do it doesn't help.

Also suggestions of other restaurants (with directions) that serve alcohol in reception or in your room would be useful, in addition to ideas of places to visit etc. as if you are not around in the evening when Tim and Alix arrive there is nobody to ask because as lovely as the ladies were there English was very limited.

All in all an excellent stay - very recommendable.

We had a lovely time in Marrakech. We arranged a taxi pick-up in advance through Riad Amira and it went well.
Marrakech is very alive, especially at night, but when you enter the riad is so quiet en peacefull.
The staff is so nice, we've never had friendlier staff than here.
The riad is nicely renovated and very tastefully decorated.
The rooms were beautiful and so clean.
Breakfast was great and delicious, they also serve lunch and diner if you like to (also delicious).

A big thanks to the owners and their staff, for making our visit to Marrakech so wonderfull.

Had a great stay at the Riad Amira. Taxi pickup from airport ran smoothly, no problems. Lovely room, as well as roof terrace and courtyard area, perfect for relaxing after a busy day in the souks! Great staff there, they arranged a taxi for us for the day for a trip into the Atlas mountains, as well as getting up in the early hours to prepare our breakfast before our early flight home. recommended!

Just returned from a week staying at the Riad Amira. What a lovely place. Like many houses in Marrakech, the outside is a bit scruffy, but once through the door you are in another world! The place just oozes calm and serenity. Tastefully furnished, well appointed bedrooms, with lots of individual touches, look onto a central courtyard. Meals are taken here, beside the small pool, birds singing above in the orange tree. The ladies who look after the place and serve breakfast are so gentle and unobtrusive, and so helpful and kind, arranging anything from day trips to the Atlas Mountains, to a nice bottle of wine up on the roof terrace at sunset. The food is gorgeous. Have at least one evening meal here.
Marrakech is a wonderfully mad city. It takes your breath away with its energy and excitement. So much to look at and experience. Yet we felt completely safe to wander around, even late at night, returning to this lovely riad and its tranquility.
Next time we are in Marrakech we will definitely stay here again.

I have just read the previous review and it seems we had the same misfortune of arranging the Taxi pickup with the Amira before hand and then waiting for hours at the airport hoping it would arrive. When it didnt we hadnt got the address of the Riad and it was a stressful time - not the start we wanted. Tim and Alix were not really around much at all an I get the impression they just plum forgot to book the taxi. The girls at the Amira were more helpful, attentive and firendly and it is a nice clean environment.

sotos, Owner at Riad Amira, responded to this reviewResponded 5 May 2008

I am very sorry to hear that this guest was not happy during his stay and can understand completely their frustration at the taxi not having picked them up. This does occur sometimes especially in a country like Morocco where standards are not as high as others. Saying that I think our driver has missed about 5 pickups in the 3 years that we have been running Riad Amira and every time if I am informed I immediately try and make up by apoligising and offering something in return for their wasted time.

I sincerely apologise and should you send me an email to the company address or a private message here I will do this on a more personal level.

In regards to either of us not being there I must assume that we missed each other most days as we are there at least 6 hours a day all week. The rest of the time we are working off site.

Regarding the previous comment I have tried to contact the guest several times as I am still not sure they stayed with us because we do not offer a complementary taxi service and also I answer my emails fastidiously throughout the day and something as important as this would have been first on my list.

Once again I would like to apologise for the transport not being there but it is obviously not a common thing if not this site would be littered with comments of people not picked up at the airport.

Kind regards

Tim

The promised complimentary taxi did not arrive to pick us up from the airport and this meant our stay began with a very fraught 90minutes as we waited anxiously. We eventually sought help to pinpoint the location of the riad and organised our own transport.
The owners were away so we did not complain to the charming ladies who were looking after the riad in their absence and we settled in to the pleasant surroundings for our three night stay.
Upon our return home I e-mailed the owner regarding the taxi but have yet to receive a reply let alone an apology
