We stayed at Riad Azzar in April of 2014. We did a one week holiday in Morocco, starting our trip in Marrakech followed by four days of hiking in the High Atlas Mountains and then returning to Marrakech. Both stays at the beginning and end of our trip were wonderful.

Location - The riad is located an easy five minute walk to the main square, Jemaa el-Fnaa, but it is wonderfully hidden from the business of the street - so quiet. There are no signs to direct you to the riad. The system of having someone transport your luggage by pushcart/wheelbarrow works well to get you through the hustle and bustle of the city. I would arrange this with the riad, this was arranged for us through our hiking company so we were able to get there with ease. The owners arranged it for us when leaving for the airport.

Rooms/En suite - We stayed in the twin room (two twin beds) at the beginning of our trip. The room is beautiful decorated, beds comfortable, air conditioned (if needed) and the bathroom is wonderful and clean. The bathroom has a walk in shower and a big vanity, plenty of room with nice towels.

Main areas/Dining - The center courtyard has a pool and sitting area. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on the rooftop where there is also a lounging area. Breakfast is at 8:30am and is wonderful, the coffee was excellent, yogurt excellent, jus d'orange. We had dinners all three nights we were there. And it was the best Moroccan food we had during our stay. The owners were so nice to arrange that our last dinner before flying home was not a traditional tajine (as that is what we ate the prior seven nights). The dinners are highly recommended.

Service - Everyone from the staff to the owners were very nice and helpful. We also didn't get enough details for our departure to the mountains and the owner called the company to arrange the time we needed to go. We also left a souvenir with them because we were returning at the end of the week and we didn't want it to get damaged during our hikes. They had great recommendations for lunch places, etc. It was so helpful as we hadn't planned out what we wanted to do beforehand.

We highly recommend staying here as it will make the experience in Marrakech complete.

Room Tip: We stayed in two different rooms, one with two twin beds and other with a king size. You won't go wrong either way. If you want your own sitting area, ask for the one with its own balcony sitting area.

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at this lovely riad during a short break in Marrakech. Ideally situated a stone's throw from the Jamaa-el-Fna square, it is nevertheless an oasis of tranquility and peace and a welcome retreat for relaxation after doing battle with the souks all day. Each room has its own unique character (we were lucky enough to be offered a choice on arrival) and the communal areas are cosy and delightfully decorated with Moroccan ornaments. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food excellent - we ate out in restaurants on two nights and twice at the riad. However, as others have suggested, what makes this riad excel above the competition are the wonderful owners, Maryk and Cees - so friendly and incredibly helpful. Over a mint tea, they offered advice about sightseeing, restaurants, souks etc. and gave us maps to navigate with. Maryk booked restaurants for us (she even walked us to one so we didn't get lost), taxis, and trips out to Kasbah Tamadot in the Atlas Mountains for lunch (highly recommended) and to the Beldi Country Club on our last day. Really, really wonderful.

We have just returned from Riad Azzar where we spent 4 wonderful nights. This place is a haven, a quiet, refined and relaxing atmosphere with kind and caring Dutch owners, Maryk and Cees and their wonderful team of attentive staff. We were so close to Djemaa el Fna too.
The decor is beautiful, our suite was stunning and very comfortable and the home cooking was the best! Trips and transfers were arranged with ease, great advice and a good map which worked! Restaurant recommendations and ones to avoid…all very helpful.
We would highly recommend staying here, and hope to return.

It was more than we expected, the attention to detail of the decor is absolute of both Riads (Riad Siwan), the comfort and service was excellent and the owners Cees and Marjke just made sure every need or query was seen too. Lucky enough to spent night in both Riads....we found it hard to compare or criticize either. The Souks are so much fun....if you are going to shop knock the price down by at least 70% and then start bargaining. Dont pay more than 40% of the asking price

We had two suites at the Riad Azzar. Both rooms were beautifully appointed as well as the riad itself. Riad Azzar exceeded all of our expectations - superb service, old world authenticity, great location, hearty breakfasts, etc. We could not have asked for more. The beautifully tiles rooftop terrace was a great place to hang before and after long days of touring. Our hats off to the owners (who are very gracious and helpful) and to the staff (especially Fatima who took us under her wing). When my travels bring me back to Marrakech, I will most certainly book the Riad Azzar.

Room Tip: Suites are great as they're located on the 2nd floor and larger. A smaller Riad like the Azzar is better than a larger Riad.
