Myself and a friend turned up here at midnight, thinking we had a booking with Riad Lapiz Lazuli. However after waking up one of the owners, he graciously took us in despite us having no booking, made us mint tea, showed us around and gave us a wonderful room. Following this he also got up at 6 in the morning to make us breakfast and book us onto an excursion. We were overwhelmed by how brilliantly we were looked after. The Riad itself was lovely, away from the main roads and with a gorgeous roof terrance, a really authentic feel and beautiful furniture. We had a fantastic traditional breakfast in the morning, and to top it all off the lovely member of staff ensured we had water and toiletries for our excursion with no cost whatsoever. We couldn't have had a better experience here.

In a city of fast pace and hassle, this is exactly the hotel you want to come home to. It is beautiful in the common areas (lobby/hangout area with WiFi, Rooftop terrace) and also in the room. When we arrived, the owner gave us great advice about cabs and pricing and how to handle the locals, etc...something other Riads WONT DO! The location is central Medina, but it is VERY easy to get to the plaza and the owners even walked us the first time to make sure we knew where to go. GREAT experience and price is well worth every penny. My girlfriend and I went and loved it...even made some friends while we were there and shared a nice bottle of wine one night.

This riad is simply the best, here is why:

1) The owner/s Patrick and Lawrence go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. They are genuine and hospitable and really the two nicest folks you'll meet.

2) The staff they are wonderful! There are only three of them but trust me, they get the job done! Im ashamed I cant remember their names off the top of my head, but they really are wonderful.

3) The Food!! Morocco and Marrakech offer some great culinary adventures/challenges. I for one enjoy the experience so it was more of an adventure for me. Even with this being said we found our selves eating in the hotel for dinner every night. No restaurant could compare. The price, the quantity were excellent, but the quality of the food... BEYOND GOOD! Patrick makes dinner and he actually makes dinner. You see him going to/from the fresh food market, you see him prepping the food with so much TLC its no wonder why we ate in the Riad every night!

4) The room was immaculate and the bed was extremely comfortable. There were and AC/Heater unit in the room for those who enjoy the extremes in temperature. The bedding was so fresh and comfortable. The WC was pretty standard. The only downfall is the the hot water can be a little tricky from time to time. Especially in the peak hours.

5) The location. YES its a walk to the main square. If you don't want to have to walk to the main square then look for a hotel in the main square. I can assure you though the walk is not far and its quite safe. Yes its tricky at first but Patrick was kind enough to show us the way and we never got lost again. Its part of the experience. Just always say no to someone offering to show you the way. ALWAYS say NO! But like I said before the Riad is perfectly situated outside the hustle and bustle.

6) The interior is like stepping into a different dimension. You walk in off the streets and your instantly at easy. Its like be transported to another world of pure serenity!

Well if none of this strikes you fancy and makes you want to book here then your too picky! Enjoy Marrakech, don't over plan over analyze, like the great America President Abraham Lincoln once said "Just do it."

Room Tip: Rooms with windows that open to the streets can be a bit noisy. The locals love to stay up late some...

Beautiful Riad but a bit out of the way with really nice staff. They did have beds that accommodated a 6'4 person which is why we went with with this Riad. Overall a really nice place with helpful staff.

A great place to stay in Marrakech. There is everything one could want in this small riad, as soon as one walks through the door there is an atmosphere of calm and peace - something of a contrast with the Medina. The rooms are comfortable and roof terrace a very nice place to relax. The staff are all wonderful, doing their very best to make your stay enjoyable and memorable, we felt we had made new friends during our short stay. You do not have to eat at the riad, but we did twice and the food was great, at least as good as the restaurants we sampled. As others have noted, it is rather difficult to find at first and I would strongly advise taking up the offer of a taxi from the airport, it is good value and will take you straight to the riad. The owners (Patrick and Laurent) are very welcoming and make sure you know local landmarks to look out for - even so you will almost certainly get lost on your first trip outside!

The only drawback to this place is that it's a decent walk from the main square and it's pretty tricky to navigate through the windy Medina streets. Once you figure it out though, it's not too bad. We had a wonderful stay here and this place was truly an oasis amidst the craziness of Marrakech! They gave us a wonderful welcome with all kinds of helpful info, they arranged taxis to pick us up if we needed them, and they even had a guy from DHL come to the Riad and work with us to get our rugs sent back to the states! So helpful! Also, for coffee drinkers like us, you get plenty of warm coffee in the mornings! ;)
