Great getaway in the middle of the city, Lisa and Michael give a great helpful bespoke introduction to the city, the people that work there are stars (and make a great breakfast and truly awesome homebaked biscuits). Standards of stylish accomodation are as clean and nice as if like you are back in the UK but with an exoctic twist, a great location where you get to nip home and back out again if the city gets a bit too hectic for you. If you're doing morocco, this is the way to do it. A tip is not to bother with the YSL gardens(choc full of cacti, small, nothing to do), go to the winston churchill hotel and enjoy their very awesome and wonderful tranquil gardens with a mint tea. Tripadvisor wins with a great recommendation, gf proved right again:) thanks for a great trip Michael and Lisa

Room Tip: the room with the real fire is wonderful and a great way to end a long day by the glow of the fire

Having once stopped with my sister a few years ago, I was on a mission to try and keep the girlfriend off the "lads only cricket tour" to India in 2013. So for Christmas I said i'd treat her to a trip to Marrakech, to hopefully send her off the scent of India, I should have checked her into a right old slum, but it would have ended up in no girlfriend at all and so there was only one place to go that would be a saviour if she wasn't to like Marrakech - Dar Charkia.

As ever turn up at the airport and there's no waiting as Lisa and Mick have organised complimentry transport and he is there ready.

Arrive at the Riad and it's a pleasure to see all the old faces again, they are becoming like family as there greeting gets even warmer, which is only ever more complimentry in this part of the world,

Times go on but things never change as we are welcomed with a drink and biscuits along with a lovely greeting card, while Lisa has done us a map giving us the lowdown on Marrakech "just in case" I forgot.

We are currently on a tour of the Riad as Lisa givs us a differant room every time and this one is really nice and secluded on its own personal stair case beautifully decorated, somewhere just to sit back and read a book.

The thing I really like about Dar Charkia and is constant, is that a lot of places through the world harrass you to death, Here the team leave you to your own resoruces but should you need anything they are only a shout away and do everything with a genuine regard for the customer with a smile and politely. You get the feeling that it's there mission in life to make as many people come and love there country. In India they are only thinking "tips", New York they're thinking "time", here the ythink "They're guests of my country".

One night we stayed in the Riad and the staff was great, not standing around looking bored, waiting to attend because "thats there job". However they were always within shouting distance and did it with that calm etiquette that Dar Charkia seems to posses in this labrinth of chaos when we needed some more beers and Shisha, It was one of the magical nights looking into the starry sky, no noise, beers in North Africa. It ws like having a personal servant that apparitioned from no where right on que.

As it stands I can only see Dar Charkia being number one for the rest of my life and it's existance because Lisa and Mick are such strong charecters of hospitality and fiercly proud, 2nd best isn't an option. As for India, well, lads trip only thank god, but the bird has said she'd like to return to Marrkech - Good result all round

Happy Christmas Dar Charkia and a great New Year

Room Tip: Tell lisa and she is a good judge of people, noever wrong so far,

Incredibly helpful hosts, welcoming and keen to help you get the most out of your trip. Peaceful tranquility in this oasis of calm, delicious healthy breakfast served on the roof terrace in the sunshine where you can laze all day long, use the pool or go explore the souks outside the front door. Beautiful traditional decor with nooks and crannys to rest, relax, read, wi fi, ask for food, drinks etc to be prepared. Loved this place, highly recommend!

We had no idea where to stay in Marrakech and ended up booking Dar Charkia based on a recommendation from a friend. What a delight! The Riad is amazingly peaceful and beautiful. It just has a really special feeling. The interiors are so well done. Comfortable and hip. The owners have a great sense of style. The staff is concerned and motivated to help make your trip to Marrakech interesting, safe and a complete pleasure. The owners are Bristish and German, well travelled and have discerning tastes (which we really appreciated) and gave us invaluable tips on the best places to dine and shop! The breakfast each morning was the best we had on our 3 week trip in Aftrica. We loved it so much that we wanted to extend our stay but Dar Charkia was previously booked for the last nights. We ended up staying at another Riad, which was ok but not the same. It really showed us how much extra effort and attention to detail in the design Lisa & Micheal have put into Dar Charkia to make it so special. It really is great. We will be back!

My husband and I are seasoned travelers are usually stay at design oriented boutique hotels. I was having a hard time sorting through the sea of Riads in Marrakech and my cousin recommended Dar Charkia. The pics and reviews looked good and I totally trust my cousins taste so we booked it. It was much better than I imagined. The owners have taken much care to design a very special place that feels better than home. The attention to detail is amazing. The style is fashionably Moroccan and 'up to date' without it being overly modern, which is not what we were looking for in such a beautiful old city as Marrakech. The Handira covered breakfast nook and the roof top tent were spot on. The rooms are Moroccan inspired without being too stuffy or traditional. Lisa has done an amazing job on the interiors. I didn't want to leave! The location was perfect. Could walk to the souks and to great restaurants easily. Our room was on the main floor and we were so surprised how peaceful and quiet the property was considering how noisy Marrakech is! It is such a lovely place to come back to after a busy day. Lisa and Michael were the best hosts we encountered on our trip. So helpful, cheery and fun to talk to. Lisa makes a hand annotated map of Marrakech that walks you through the must do's, best shopping and dining the city has to offer. I have filed mine away to use for next time! It is a must have! The staff was super welcoming and always available to help or answer a quick question. I fell in love with Marrakech and Dar Charkia. I will definitely be back!

This Riad is located in the heart of Marrakech and is a truly wonderful oasis amongst the bustle of the surrounding medina and it was like walking into a different world once we opened the front door. The decor is splendid throughout and showed great attention to detail and was spotless from top to bottom. All the staff were extremely friendly and attentive and offered a 5 star service throughout our stay and we met the owners Lisa and Michael who had extensive invaluable local knowledge and were able to provide us with a wealth of recommendations from restaurants to shops and places to visit. Throughout our stay nothing was to much trouble for the staff or owners and we felt like we were treated like old friends from the minute we arrived to the time we left. This was our first visit to Marrakech and I would highly recommended this Riad to anyone thinking of visiting as it could not be faulted in any way and made our trip extra special - I certainly would not contemplate staying any where else if I'm lucky enough to return to Marrakech.

We recently travelled to Morocco for 6 nights, spending the first 2 in another Marrakech riad, before heading to the mountains for a night.
On our return we stayed at Dar Charkia. With the help of the directions given on the website the place was easy to find, off a main street. The welcome was lovely, with tea and biscuits, as well as very welcoming staff (who spoke English, which was a welcome change having spent the previous 3 nights resurrecting GCSE French). We were given the best map of Marrakech I've seen (far better than in any guidebooks for Morocco I've read), fully annotated by the owners with recommendations, right down to where's best to change money.
The place itself is beautiful. It is immaculately kept and the room (Sahara) was simply wonderful. There was a coded safe, which was welcome having experienced some theft from our room at the previous riad at which we stayed (not that it ever felt at Dar Charkia that the safe would be necessary), and the details down to the rose petals around the shower were lovely.
Unfortunately, due to the timing of our arrival, we did not see Lisa and Michael until the third day (we went on a tour the next day, with the very friendly, English speaking driver the riad uses). They were apologetic for their absence and offered advice wherever they could.
We had breakfast each day and lunch on our final day (with complementary drink). The food was wonderful, the only slight comment being - and this is so slight that it indicates how great the place was otherwise - would be that we would have liked more local bread, rather than a French loaf and plentiful.
Overall this is possibly the best "hotel" I've stayed in, and certainly the first that has prompted me to review it on Tripadvisor, and the place really made our holiday. We will certainly be looking to return, possibly just for a long weekend to return to Dar Charkia!
