“A perfect retreat in the heart of Marrakech”
Reviewed 24 June 2009

With our 5 day escape to Marrakech being booked at the last minute, I did not approach the accomodation with high expectations (especially considering the low cost). Thankfully, I could not have been more pleasantly surprised.

The Rhiad itself is in an ideal location. So close to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, yet as soon as you step into its courtyard you instantly feel at home in the peaceful surroundings. We stayed in two different rooms over the stay and both were clean and beautifully presented.

One could not have hoped for better hosts than Lisa and Michael. Lisa is a fountain of knowledge on the area and all of her restaurant recommendations were spot on. Approaching the holiday, we were worried that it would be difficult to find places that cater for vegetarians. Lisa managed to extinguish these fears with a selection of places that offered vegetarian cuisine that was of an equally high standard as the rest of the menu. Service throughout from all the staff was impeccable and breakfast delicious and filling, served when you want it and wherever you want it (the roof terrace is a must).

Overall, the entire holiday was nicer than I could have possibly imagined and Dar Charkia played no small part in this. Marrakech is a place that everyone should experience at least once and should I choose to visit again there is only one Rhiad I will now consider staying in.

Dar Charkia was a stunning place to stay, the whole riad was decorated beautifully, and the room was gorgeous! It was an extremely relaxing place to stay in such a busy city. The patio and roof terrace were lovely, as were each of the lounge areas. The breakfast which is served outside (and whatever time you want it which is great) is delicious. All the staff are extremely helpful and very friendly, as are both Lisa and Michael, they all made us feel welcome and catered to our every need. I would highly recommend Dar Charkia to everyone I know...I definitely want to go back!!

I stayed in Dar Charkia with my mother for 3 nights - brilliant location and excellent hosts in Michael and Lisa, who gave us superb recommendations for each of the 3 days we had in the city. We arrived late at night, and Lisa had left an anotated map of where to go and what to do that night. Fabulous breakfast on the terrace each morning. Ver calm and relaxing after the hustle of the city. Would strongly recommend this to anyone travelling to Marrakech.

We went at the end of May which was hot enough. Arrived at 1.30am to a friendly welcome which lasted our whole stay. Lisa our hoste was a mind of information and sent us to some fantastic places to visit and eat. We were a group of six couples so we took all the bedroomsgiving us the riad to ourselves. The food was excellent, we ate in one evening but the breakfasts were to die for! Certainly well worth a visit

Amazing oasis in the middle of a fascinating city. Felt like we'd walked out of the 'wardrobe into Narnia'! As you step in to Dar Charkia from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech - the cool, calm, beautiful environment provides the perfect base to enjoy in its own right - and also from which to explore the sites.
The standard of accommodation, food and personal service were excellent - and we couldn't recommend this more highly.

From the moment we enquired about staying with Lisa & Michael, we couldn't have asked for more. Their suggestions on what to see and do and more importantly where to eat. Response were quick and nothing is too much trouble.
Lisa gave us a great orientation talk on our first morning before heading off for our guided trip round the Souk. We highly recommend the trip with Lisa, great guidance on prices and where to shop.
For my birthday we had dinner in the Riad, which had the most romantic atmosphere with the tinkling of the fountain in the courtyard. The food was great and thank you for the bottle to celebrate.
We also took a half day trip with Marco round Marrakech itself. A great way to learn a little more of the history and we were blown away with the courtyard in the Museum of Marrakech - a must.
Dar Charkia itself, is beautifully decorated and just a sublime oasis to return to afer a day in the city. Our room- Khmissa Suite, had it's own little staircase to it making it exceptionally private, which we loved.
We arrived very late on the Thursday night and Abdu was on hand to make sure we were well settled into the Dar. A nice refreshing drink before taking us through to our room. In fact all the staff are more than accomodating. We highly recommend having breafast on the terrace in the morning, a great way to set you up for the day.
We would certainly return to Dar Charkia in the future and I'm already recommending it to friends.

We stayed at this wonderful riad from 10th-14th June. It was superb!! we were welcomed on our arrival by the lovely owner Michael and his fantastic team of staff who instantly made us feel at home!! The riad is beautiful and I only wish I had Lisa's (the owner) ability for interior design.

We were given lots of really useful tips on our arrival and information re places to go, places to eat, even suggetsions on which starters to try!! we were never ever disappointed...they were spot on.

We originally planned to only stay two nights and move to another riad after that but we felt so comfortable here we decided to stay and they kindly accomodated that.We spent two half days with Marco their guide who was superb and very entertaining!
The bedrooms are beautiful and lots of lovely extras to make it that extra bit special...which it certainly was. I would highly recommend this riad to anyone wanting to be close to the culture and vibrancy of Marrakech, however still wanting the peace and tranqulity and romance of a trip away.would highly recommend the al fassia restaurant and for that very special night out the riad lotus priviledge, both recommendations made by the wonderful owners.
