After our well-weighted decision on our next destination, we were faced with an even bigger challenge of choosing a place to stay. As anyone planning a perfect holiday/short break for themselves will know, this can take an overwhelming amount of time, especially for the epicentres of tourism, such as Marrakech. This is why we were pleasantly surprised to discover a clear winner within seconds of our search on Tripadvisor. Dar Charkia had a plethora of amazing reviews, photos and charm. To say the least, we booked it straight away.
However, was it going to live up to our expectation, needs and wants?...it certainly did! Room rates were very reasonable, and our Khmissa Suite was absolutely stunning. And can anyone forget their relaxing breakfast on the roof terrace, with the sun rising to greet you and lull you half-way back to sleep with kisses on your face, while the sweet aroma of freshly brewed coffee, mint tee, pancakes and jam encourage you to stay at least half-awake, and the views of the Atlas Mountains unravelling in the morning sun in front of you? I just wish all my mornings started this way.
The room was beautiful, and as with all the rooms in the Riad, had an identity of its own. Charming and beyond, with care for detail on every corner, comfy bed, to say the least, and a fireplace for cooler evenings with a glass of wine or some champagne perhaps?! Boutique Haven it seemed to scream.
Beyond the Riad walls is a beautiful, bustling city with plenty of culture to offer any discerning traveller. This may have been missed if it weren’t for the lovely Lisa and Michael, who shared their experiences of the place, people and culture, and who could always make recommendations for any activity you may wish to partake in while in Marrakech. The atmosphere certainly felt relaxing and friendly, enabling one to switch to Holiday mode as soon as you arrived.
If you’re looking for a holiday or a short break in Marrakech, you too can stop your search and book the best Riad that the city has to offer. And if you do have questions or concerns, these will no doubt be answered upon your arrival by Dar Charkia’s amazing hosts, helping you maximize your Moroccan experience both within the Riad and beyond.

This is a superb place to stay. The owners Lisa and Michael, provide wonderful accomodation, with great attention to every detail. From the moment you arrive, when Lisa gives you her introductory talk on where to eat, visit ,and shop etc. until it's time to go, you are pampered. Her staff are attentive, polite, and completely happy to be of service. The location, in the old town means that you are at the centre of the true Marrakech. Nothing is too much trouble.

Marvellous Marrakech. Just spent the weekend at Dar Charkia, just minutes from the centre of the souks, and what an amazing time we had. The riad is a beautiful, wonderful touch of sanity in a mad, mad city. Lisa, Michael and the rest of the fabulous team there could not have been more helpful and make you feel as safe and comfortable as if you are at home, they even provide the tea and biscuits!

Absolutely huge rooms with massive bathrooms too, with a heated pool, a wonderful roof terrace and fantastic food – nothing is left to chance, they have thought of everything.

A different breakfast every day and useful shopping tips too. Nothing was too much trouble and if you need a booking for any restaurant they are guaranteed to get you in.

P.S. Don’t tell anyone, but it was really good value for money too!!! I will certainly be back.

We just spent one night in this beautiful riad - all too short. If anything, the website undersells it. The decor, ambience and the warm welcome from Michael, Lisa and their team sets this place apart. Arriving in Marrakech from laid back Essaouira woke up the senses, and their practical advice and assistance with arrangements meant that the short time we had in this vibrant city could be used to best advantage.

This is a great place to stay for all ages. Friendly, but not intrusive, I would definitely like to return.

Dar Charkia is a real find, a beautifully presented and relaxing riad just a short walk from all the main action. Owners Lisa and Michael and all their staff ensured we had a wonderful stay in Marrakech.

Nothing is too much trouble for Lisa and Michael who run Dar Charkia. Nine of us stayed for a 40th birthday weekend. Our rooms were all beautifully decorated and every whim was catered for. The covered courtyard with its orange tree is a wonderful spot for breakfast or a drink and there are numerous amazing restaurants nearby. Do make sure to get Lisa to guide you round the souks. I was a bit sceptical about the idea but it turned out to be inspired - she will let you wander or guide you to the best spots and she will tell you the fairest price for both yourself and the trader. Also - do let Lisa give you advice on restaurants. She recommended one at nearby Privilege which was probably one of the best I have ever visited in my life. Breathtaking decor and the most amazing tasting menu. Before I left for the airport, Lisa offered me a plate of her home-made delicious lasagne - on the house. It was like staying with friends!

What an amazing place!! This Riad was exactly what we needed for a first time family trip to Marrakech. Lisa and Micheal have an utterley beautiful place - we stayed in three different rooms during our stay and each was lovely, clean and beautifully and individually decorated. The main courtyard and heated pool (31 degrees!) is gorgeous and the roof terrace was ideal for catching the (unfortunately during our stay few!) rays. On our first morning Lisa, with the assistance of an individually marked up complimentary map, provided recommendations on getting the best out of our stay in M. As Lisa and Michael live in the city and their youngest daughter is educated there they have an intimate knowledge of the best places to eat and shop and all the do's and dont's. Her advice was very important to our family as it provided us with the confidence we needed in a city which provides a very different experience to any other within such a short jouney time form the UK. The owners and staff were always on hand to offer advice, make dinner reservations in any of the fine eateries etc. I was particularily impressed at how attentive the staff were without ever imposing on our privacy at all. The owners have a lovely rappor with the staff and this shows in the efficient and just downright wonderful way in which the Riad is run. We had a couple of trips out into the Atlas Mountains (arranged with ease through the Riad) and would recommend this as a contrast to the pace of the city. I do not generally make recommendations as everyone has a different itinery really for holidays but I cannot imagine that anyone would fail to feel completely impressed and satisfied with this Riad - if you are going to Marrakech stay at Dar Charkia!
