“Overrated For What It Is”
Reviewed 8 July 2010

We chose Riad Clos des Arts because of its website and some of the reviews we read. I would not say we had a horrible time, but I must say that this riad is very basic and more in line of a budget hotel. II am rating it average. but that is being a bit generous.

The location of the riad is on a very busy market street which it interesting but extremely noisy. Day and night motor bikes speed by and if you are not getting almost crushed when you walk out of the riad you certainly can't sleep very well onece you are inside. The noise is horrendous.

The staff are friendly and seem to try their best but the place is quite disorganized. The mangement call it "quirky" but when you do not have working air conditioning on a very hot day and the hot water is erratic that is not quirky. It is bad maintenance and management. Attempts were always made to repaIr things, but somehow the repairmen never arrived when promised. Food was adquate, but very small portions. Seemed as though every piece of meat was measured carefully.

In all, this is more of a youth hostel than a hotel. Not bad for backpackers, but not for us.

starindar, Owner at Riad le Clos des Arts, responded to this review, 9 July 2010
As owners and managers of Riad le Clos des Arts we are quite surprised and suspicious on this review, starting from the description of the location. The riad is not on a market street but it is in one of the areas considered, by experts on Marrakech, among the most quite of the Medina. We are almost at the end of a cul de sac so it is completely impossible to hear any motobikes speeding up in front of the door. Actually, all our guests usually praise the silence of the place.

We also didn’t have any guests in May reporting any problem regarding hot water or air condition. Our technical areas are regularly checked and maintained. Since we are personally managing the riad, we are surprised that he didn’t inform us about the misfunctioning. We are really sorry therefore for this guest, who seems to have been waiting for a repairmen who was never called because nobody was informed.

As per the dinner, we usually serve very generous plates, and it is very rare that guests manage to end their dishes. We therefore apologize if he wasn’t satisfied enough.

As regards the comments on the comforts and management, we leave it to the comments of other guests, since it is very subjective. However, from the choice of materials and furniture, the riad is far away from being a backpackers hostel. We feel sorry for this guest who did not find it up to his expectations.

Many thanks to you both and your wonderful staff, a beautiful time spent with you, We really can't reccommend this Riad enough. The greeting and imfomation emparted to us on arrival was invaluable, the staff are about if needed and melt into the decor when not, and the location is perfect, a serenity from the 'madness' of the Medina.

Having never visited Marrakech before I was warned that the atmosphere can get very intense and together with the heat, overwhelming but Riad Clos Des Arts was the absolute perfect retreat after days within the souks and hustle & bustle.

On arrival, we were greeted by Georgina and Massimo who made us feel at home (Thankfully both speaking perfect English/French/italian and more.) Georgina ran through everything we should be aware off and places we should visit whilst we sipped on mint tea and Moroccan biscuits. Had it not been for this introduction I'm sure that one of us would have got food poisoning or missed the best sites to visit!

We were 3 women sharing and the Nacre room which was perfect for us. It was very clean, cool and made us feel like we were staying in a traditional Riad as opposed to a hotel. With plenty of space and privacy we also enjoyed being able to open our room onto the court yard.

Dinner time at the Riad was magical and the staff transformed with the terrace or the court yard into a beautiful dinning area with rose petals, pleasant music and excellent service. We chose to eat at the Riad on 2 evening out of our 4 as we felt so comfortable there and the food was delicious. Compliments to the chef!

Above the 2 floors of bedrooms was a terrace with pool and sun loungers. The pool and surrounding area was spotless and the whole experience of sunbathing and relaxing was made all the more relaxing the silence. Once in the Riad you couldn't hear any of the noise in the Medina.

For the price we paid for this accommodation we were very, very happy and have already planned to return with other members of our family. I would recommend Riad CLos Des Arts to adults, couples or friends looking for somewhere in the heart of the medina with tranquility behind closed doors. Superb customer service, great food and very very clean. Georgina and Missimo are the perfect hosts and make you feel like you are in their home making the whole experience that much more special.

Thanks for a great stay guys
Bex

This trip was a birthday present for my mother in law and just the girls went. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip but what made it extra special was the stay at Riad Le Clos des Arts. Georgina & Massimo were fantastic hosts and made our stay like a home from home. I am looking forward to going back with my husband and sharing the experience with him. A true little jem.

The trip to Marrakech was a birthday gift for my girlfriend and equally our anniversary time away from home. We stayed at Riad Le Clos des Arts for four days. The owners Georgina and Massimo appeared to be very kind and warm people. The Riad is located within very short distance to variety of must-see places and restaurants. The rooms are cute and decorated in traditional and Moroccan style. All staff was very friendly and we felt very comfortable at all times - like at home!
If you wish to spend very nice romantic break and catch some of real Moroccan culture, your stay at Riad Le Clos des Arts will be the best destination for you.

On entering this beautiful riad I knew we had made the right choice. A calm environmnent with lovely hosts - Georgina and Massimo - and kind and friendly staff. If you wanted information it was there, if you simply wanted to soak up the surroundings you could. Ideally situated in the medina it was easy to explore then return for some welcome shade and mint tea. I want to return which I think says it all.
