“Just Wonderful...”
Reviewed 23 May 2009

My second visit to this Riad and enjoyed a really wonderful stay with my mom. Was very pleased to see the same staff there, all of whom were attentive, very friendly and incredibly helpful. For anyone who hasn't been you'll find the riad to be very stylish; the owner Jean has a lovely eye for small details - roses, candles, plants...and the home cooked food is worth having if you don't care to venture out. I will venture back I'm certain.

Other Tips: Bartering. Be prepared for a long drawn out process. It can be a fun experience and if you're good expect to pay half the orginal opening price. However, getting the locals to give you an opening price can be a headache...and can leave you feeling awkward if you've been in the shop for a good ten minutes and then decide that you don't wish to purchase...I purchased a leather belt for £13.00, a leather pouffe for £25.00 and a lovely leather bag fro £25.00 which we believed were fair prices.

A beautiful riad/dar, kitted-out with impeccable attention to detail. Jean has made the most of locally made furnishings - picking out all the best stuff from the sea of throws, candles, lanterns etc on offer - to create an understated, but still very moroccan-feeling, decorative scheme.
You can't help taking photos of every detail, it all just looks so great.
Also, maintaining the decorative details, but muting down the colours, helps the place stay feeling authentic, but gives your senses a bit of a break after the sensory assault of the city itself.

Our room was spacious and comfortable, with an enormous dramatic bathroom, and their monogrammed bedsheets were probably the softest I've ever come across.

The staff here are great, and it seems like a very happy place to work - everyone has a smile for you. Abdel was especially lovely, and seemed overjoyed when we asked him to make us a fire in our bedroom. The lounge was a great place to relax with a drink, by the fire (it was cold in the evenings in December).

Food here was tasty - breakfasts were a little different every day, which was a welcome surprise, but always with great coffee & fresh orange juice.

We ate dinner at Dar One on our first night, which was delicious. It wasn't cheap, but we think it was our best meal of our month-long stay in Morocco, so definitely worth it.

Dar One seemed exceptional value for money, and significantly cheaper than other riads which were offering a similar class of accommodation. Marrakech is not a cheap place to stay in general. We booked via 'Mr&Mrs Smith' which also provided a good service.

Getting anywhere in marrakesh is a bit of an experience so don't be alarmed that you go through a myriad of alleys to get to Dar One, its worth the adventure. Owned and hosted by the very charming Jean, Dar One is beautiful. We were in the smallest room, le petit prince but it was immaculate and very nicely designed. what really made the stay for us were the staff - apparently they have been working as a team in the Riad since it opened and every single member of the team was exceptional. best bits: breakfast a deux on the roof terrace; dinner a deux in the riad with no one else around (the cook is amazing) and having somewhere peaceful and quiet to retreat to post souk!

My husband and I stayed at Dar One during May Day - bank holiday. It was absolutely beautiful, in such ciaos of a city, you find this beautiful riad in the mist of it. We were in Marrakech for 3 nights and the first night unfortunately Dar One was completely booked, so Jean arranged for us to stay at another brand new Riad about 5-10min away by foot - Dar More. All the transfers were arranged so we didn’t have to worry about anything, since it was our first trip to Marrakech.

We loved the décor, everything you see on the website is a true picture of the riad. The bed was really comfortable and the room was quiet, you won’t hear any outside noises. The staff was extremely friendly and we love the fact that we can have meals whenever we would like. One thing is a must, to dine in the riad for dinner, the chef makes fantastic traditional Moroccan meals that is better than most restaurants that we visited. Staying at Dar One is definitely one of the perks of going to Marrakech.

Dar One, located in the Jewish Quarter of the medina, is ideally located to explore the delights that Marrakech has to offer. A gated alleyway leads guests through a mystical maze of narrow streets and up to the front door of the riad which opens to reveal an oasis of calm within. The decor combines modern elegance with the traditional charm of a riad. However, the highlight of staying at this beautiful riad is the service of the affable owner Jean Peres and his courteous staff. They achieve a rare balance between giving guests their space whilst being on hand to attend to their needs. Take advantage also of Jean's knowledge of Marrakech. His suggestions on where to visit and places to eat never missed the mark.

In terms of WiFi access, the signal strength in our room was adequate but not consistent. This is easily remedied by bringing your laptop down to the courtyard where you will find a much stronger connection close to the reception.

We will also miss Jean's 2 lovely and perfectly behaved dogs, Tosca and Loukoum, who are often found lounging around the riad minding their own business and allowing guests to pet them. We cannot recommend Dar One highly enough to anyone looking to visit Marrakech. It offers the rare combination of location, hospitality, luxury and value which you will be hard pressed to improve on when visiting this enchanting slice of Morrocco.

Dar One is exquisitely appointed and in a league of it's own compared to other riads in the same price bracket. It is a haven of peace and tranquility in the Jewish area (Mellah) just near Bahia Palace, so a perfect spot and easy to find although we were met and greeted upon arrival outside the palace. Staff are impeccable and the owner of this riad has ensured everything is up to the highest standard. The riad itself is stunning, with beautiful architectural features and is tastefully decorated with a touch of parisian flair and moroccan chic! Would definitely return to Dar One (and experience their cuisine next time), and recommend this above all other riads in a similar price range.
