having hit Marrakesh on an usualy cold spell, it was nice to have a hot tajine cooked chicken and vegetables (and a beer) on the rooftop on arrival.
the cold persisted but the welcome was warm and helpfull with advice and escort through the medina to experience interesting local venues.
colourful and comfortable rooms in the heart of the medina. warmly recommended.

My wife and I booked the Dar Najat for a New Year break from the miserable cold of Olde Englande. I had enjoyed dealing with the riad's French owner, Oliver, even before we booked a room. In fact, maybe it was those great Franglais emails and phone calls that sealed it for me. In any event, Oliver was an excellent host - enthusiastic, engaging and helpful - with a great command of English, uttered with an even greater French accent!

We arranged pick-up at the airport. A little pricey at 20Euro (if posts to the forum are accurate), but worth it, as our driver was able to park within 100metres of the riad and knew the warren of alleys to get us to the front door. Without this knowledge we would have been totally lost - and the nearness of a parking spot is something not to take lightly in Marrakech. We often encountered people who'd clearly hiked a considerable distance, through densely-packed streets, to get to their hideaway... and had some way to go yet before they got there.

Oliver met us on the terrace and instantly arranged for a full breakfast (tho it was now around midday) - bread and jam, eggs, pain au chocolat, fresh juice and coffee. Oh... and mint tea of course. Throughout our stay, Oliver and his team were there to help us - whether it was with (complimentary) coffee or tea, or recommendations. With Marrakech being such a warren, Oliver volunteered his team's services to get us to the main square and on other occasions, some hard-to-find restaurants. 5-star service!

Our room was African-themed and on the ground floor. It was smaller than I had expected, and felt like it had not been used for some time - having a damp, musty air to it. However, it was not a major issue and, importantly, the bed was comfortable (and not damp or musty!). There was also a small en suite shower room/toilet. On arrival we had plentiful hot water for the shower, but the basin had other ideas, and refused to offer up any hot water. I reported this to Oliver and he soon had people sorting it out for us. While I commend the alacrity with which the repairs were done, it was disappointing that we (newcomers) needed to identify the problem.

The riad is in an excellent location. For one, as I have mentioned, it is near a square that is actually accessible by car, and hence by taxi. It is also only 5 minutes from the main square, and from the Bahia Palace. There is even a small cornershop selling life's essentials just a corner away and there is a good choice of restaurants within an easy walk.

If you are familiar with more upmarket riads then you might find Dar Najat a bit small and cramped. However, with the Dar Najat the price is right, the location is right and the team is right. A nice place to spend New Year!

Hi!
First of all dear guest, thanks for contribution and lovely post!..at least for 90%!
Thanks again for apreciations very postiives regarding the place&service&team!
May i just say concerning the room,"damp, musty air "doesn't seem in adequation with the place which is an open space on countyard and your room,to answerd was occupied just before you arrived dear! even when not the case, the house keepers take care to have a perfect clean room!
Concerning the basin ,small problemes in any hotels in the world can happen..After,the difference would be to take care fast and in an efficient way to sort out of the problem which honestly was done fifteen minutes after the guest's reclamation..!
Of course,we do take care about all details to assure the best for our guests and we're really glad when they enjoy staying in our guest house and in Marrakesh.
Obviously,my english is far away from beeing perfect!i do my best to increase my friend!
At least,everyone seems to understand..
Last point dear, when i read"small and cramped",we never say we we're huge!every traveler book in dar najat for romantism and intimity..but "cramp" is really not fair!!
Again, thanks for the really good points from your post and we wish you the best for new year.
Sincerly yours,oliver.

Just returned from an anti christmas stay, not a bit of tinsel in site! From the moment we arrived oliver and his team couldn't do enough to make sure our stay was one of pure pleasure. Oliver speaks great english, good for us lazy non french speaking tourist so was always ready to help advice book or sort any thing out for us. the riad is beautifully decorated and we spent many hours on the roof terrace enjoying the sun and brilliant food, the "special cous cous" the best of our trip, listening to thieir great tunes while drinking into the chilly nights. Make sure you get extra blankets for your bed, and turn the heater up full blast. We have had an wonderful stay, in an amazing place made all the better by landing at this riad, We are sure that we will return in the not too distant future to meet up again with oliver and his team whom we would now call friends and will be sending many of our bristol mates to check out this great find.

Cannot praise this Riad enough. It has a lovely friendly, safe feel and the staff are great. Mamoun - you are a star! I only wish I had longer to spend there, easy walk to the souks yet tucked away and peaceful. Definitely have the Tagine - well worth it, it was delicious!

If you have been trawling all the websites and still cannot make up your mind whether to stay in a Riad or hotel, then please let stop you now and suggest RIAD DAR NAJAT. I have just come back from Marrakech where my boyfrend and I stayed at RIAD DAR NAJAT. It is quite simply, everything you have ever imagined it to be. An authentic house with three floors, a fabulous roof terrace and 8 bedrooms, each decorated in rich fabrics and local artwork. It actually takes you a few days to take everything in.... a delight to anyone who has an interest in other cultures. The roof terrace was a perfect place to relax in the morning sun whilst having breakfast or pre dinner drinks (Rose' is the best ) whilst listening to cool Jazz or Buddah Bar type music. Breakfast is excellent but I suggest that you book to have dinner there, as it was by far one of the best we had during our whole stay. Moo Moo (Mustafa) is always there when you need anything and Siad the local celebrity who has recently worked alongside Tom Hanks and is always there to take you through the streets to your desired Spa Retreats.( He is also a bit of eye candy for the ladies). We had a fabulous time in Marrakech, certainly helped by choosig this Fab Riad!
My only other suggestion would be, is to take some warm clothes as it is very cold a night, once the Sun has gone down!!

Myself and my partner stayed in Dar Najat mid november for three nights and we had a great time . I belive it truly was as good as i had hoped !! Oliver and the team were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable and the food throughout our stay was EXELLENT!!! Our room was desgined,(as the remainder of the Riad) with care and attention to detail, you can really tell alot of effort has gone into this riad.
I say follow the reviews here on trip advisor .I did and we had a great stay in Marrakesh we will definatley come back , the only downside is the price of the rooms aren´t always obtainable for backpackers ,and we decided to treat ourselves after 2 months in the middle east , and so glad we did !!! it was agreat way to end our trip .

Dar Najat wins on all levels - character, comfort, location, service and peace. The Riad has been created with love and such attention to detail that you feel like you are in your home away from home while soaking up the beautiful artistic and colourful features unique to Morocco. The location is ideal, within easy walking access to all the central attractions and the best bars and restaurants. The staff couldn't have been more attentive and the food (especially breakfast) was superb. Difficult to fault this Oasis.
