“DAR ZAMAN ..SIMPLY THE BEST”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

I had the most wonderful holiday at the Dar Zaman Riad, nothing was to much trouble for peter and his amazing staff, the rooms were just wonderful, clean and very confortable all with A/C, Breakfast was a joy, I had dinner every night I was there, the cook is a wonder, and with only 4 rooms you have a much more " Personal Experience " along with the added bonus that all the guests were chatting and swapping tales of there shopping trips. The fact that we had someone on call 24/7 who sleeps in the Riad I found most reassuring,Peter arranged to have me picked up and dropped off at the Airport, along with Peters " chat " including maps and whats what in Marrakech,He also met me at the taxi drop off, Plus and I have to say this was the best thing , Peter booked a guide which was a truly amazing experience. As someone who has travelled the world I cant recommend this Riad highly enough ..STUNNING with attention to detail that made my trip a true joy, I will return to the Zaman and recommend it fully in all ways ...Well done Peter and his team AAA ***

Room Tip: All the rooms are good !

This Riad is really made by the presence of its owner Peter, and Hassan who helps him run the whole operation. Peter is a rare gem - quiet, unassuming but with a real care for his guests and their wellbeing. He goes out of his way to ensure that people who come here enjoy their experience. Advice, maps and support are all at hand, and this is what makes such a difference. The evening meals if required, are tasty and well cooked, and convivial conversation with other guests add to the pleasure. The Riad is an oasis of calm in the midst of the chaotic and confusing Medina. So much more characterful than staying in one of the anonymous hotels in the newer area, staying here gives guests a sense of the real Morocco. Be prepared to get lost, feel confused and overwhelmed initially, but eventually triumph and go home feeling a real sense of having had an experience not to be forgotten.
The Souks can exhaust after a few days, so it is a good idea if staying longer to plan a trip to the Atlas Mountains or have a few days at the coast. We did not do this, but if we return we will.
We came away impressed by the humour and gentleness of the people, who though poor and living without all the things we take for granted, have a proud spirit and dignity . It can seem confusing and sometimes a bit scary, but we did not have one bad experience whilst staying here and in fact felt very safe once we got our bearings. The only exception is the mopeds and traffic, which has to be seen to be believed. I think something needs to be done about the mopeds whizzing around the Souks and Medina - they are a real menace.
All the restaurant and café recommendations Peter gave were gems , avoiding disappointment and stomach upsets.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Marrakech in the Medina and close to the Souks, this is a real home from home and comes highly recommended. Peter's Lemon Verbena tea is the best I have ever had and I am totally hooked! At the end of a long day it is so refreshing and a lovely ritual. Thank you Pete and Hassan for a really special week - you feel like good friends and we were sad to leave. The number of repeat guests says it all.

Room Tip: The roof top room is the smallest but is special as more private and in the garden. Lovely to wake...

Found this gem of a riad on trip advisor last year and spent a fantastic 3 days here. As we'll has being right in the heart of the historic medina it was so lovely inside. We had the top floor garden room and it was lovely to walk out into the terrace were we would relax. Breakfast was also served here. The riad had a small pool and it was a relief to return from the hustle and bustle to cool down. The staff were so attentive and could not do enough for you. A hint- peter the manager arranged a taxi to pick us up from the station as we would never have found this place ourselves.

My mum and I really enjoyed our stay at Dar Zaman. We felt extremely safe and were very well looked after by Hassan and Peter. It was a real added bonus to receive a complimentary dinner on our first night, especially as we were feeling rather tired at the end of such a long travelling day.
Peter and Hassan were fantastic in organising our day trip to the Atlas mountains, we will never forget our trip there!
Hassan's restaurant recommendations were always spot on, I highly recommend café Arab, their Tagines are fantastic. Mum and I also very much enjoyed the Dar Zaman breakfast, THE best orange juice!
We hope to come back again soon! Thanks to all at Dar Zaman

We stayed in Dar Zaman for three nights and it was a great experience. The riad itself is beautiful and really well kept. We had the Baignoire room, which was very small but this was fine as we didn't need to be in it much, however if you are staying for longer than 3 nights you might like to chose one of the slightly larger rooms. Breakfast was nice - orange juice, a pastry, pancake, yoghurt, breads and jams, and eggs if wanted. The best thing about the riad though was the incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Hassan sits down with you on arrival and goes through a map, giving advice about where to go and how to get places etc - which as it was our first in Marrakech was invaluable. Not only this but he went out of his way to help us out - for example escorting us to another riad which we could not find (as we decided to stay in Marrakech an extra night and sadly by the time we decided to there was no room left at Dar Zaman).

I would recommend getting Dar Zaman to organise your transfer. It's probably more expensive than just getting a taxi from the airport but I do not know how we would ever have found it without them personally escorting us there! I would also say it may not be the best place to stay if you are on your own and you are not entirely confident- as getting back to the riad can prove very difficult (down what seems like a maze of alleyways!) and it took us quite a few attempts before we learnt it!

We spent 3 nights at this Riad and it couldn't have been better. As a first time visitor the help and advice from Peter and Hassan couldn't have been more useful, and the location was perfect to walk in and out of the main attractions, whilst still being amongst the real Marrakech. A real oasis away from the madness.

The riad and the rooms are spotlessly clean and beautifully presented and every morning we were served a fantastic spread for breakfast.

The real highlight of our stay was Hassans talk when we first arrived. He tells you all the best places to go and great advice about what and what not to do to avoid any hassle, which was invaluable

Would definitely return, a real home from home and so welcoming.

Peter and his team were nothing short of excellent. From the telephone call before the trip to say "I haven't heard from you about your arrival and I want to ensure you are met" to the final wave goodbye, Peter and Hamman were friendly, helpful, hospitable and went the extra mile. Two friends from New Zealand, my sister in law and I spent a wonderful four days here amidst the hustle bustle of Marrakesh and going back to the Riad was like coming back to our own home. Its small, only 4 rooms, but this added to the delight of feeling it was just ours. Dar Zaman is a calm oasis in the excitement that is pulse of this exciting city. Restaurants were recommended, a trip to Yves Saint Laurent's unforgettable gardens was organised and a memorable trip to the beautiful Atlas Mountains were all effortlessly arranged. We ate a delicious tagine en maison one night and dined out for the rest of the time. This was my first trip to Morocco and won't be the last. I would have o hesitation in recommending Dar Zaman and I will be back for more!
