Loved our 3 night stay at the Riad Dar Zaman, Peter the owner, Hasan and Fatima are so helpful and attentive. The Riad is immaculate and the rooms comfortable and quiet. The breakfast on the rooftop was delicious, I especially love the yogurt-yummy! It is tricky to get to, but Peter is more than helpful to meet you in a common area and his map to find your way back is perfect. I highy recommend this Riad and hope to return someday.
Merci!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dar Zaman is definitely an oasis of calm in the Medina madness. It's stylish, comfortable, relaxing, homely and the rooms are lovely (we especially loved the gorgeous bathroom toiletries and fluffy towels)! Thank you Peter for making our stay so enjoyable. Your staff Hassan and Fatima are a credit to you, they could not have been more welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. Also thank you for helping us with restaurant ideas, our trip out to the Atlas mountains (which was superb), our transfers and all the other general info including those all important words like "Derb" - absolutely essential in the Medina. Our only regret is that we never sampled Fatima's Tagine!

As promised (and apologies for the delay), I felt compelled to write a review for Dar Zaman. In advance, Peter (the owner) proved very helpful, giving us ideas for our stay and arranging the taxi from the airport. Having jumped out of the taxi, I was at first slightly horrified by being approached by a local running after me, even more so when he knew my name! No matter though - this was Hassan, the young gent who stays at the Riad and is the person who always seems to be around whenever you need something. He even helped us by providing us some small change for the first tip, needed for the porter, who wheeled our bags from our cab (doubt you'll have a choice in the matter, but it was fine with us!).

Peter had arranged us a light lunch, which we had arranged in advance and provided a good briefing of the layout of the medina, along with a useful paper map and some general dos and donts for our stay, again very useful.

The Riad itself was fantastic. Our room (la baignoire) was small, but perfectly formed. Lovely details abound in the room and the riad in general - the plungepool and the roof terrace. Daily breakfast was fresh and served either downstairs or on the roof terrace - a brilliant start to the day.

Highlight of the stay was Fatima's delicious, if massively susbstantial meal (we couldn't finish everything - and we're rowers, so have massive appetities). We had the dining area to ourselves, great service from Hassan, romantic candlelight and nice music throughout courtesy of the ipod's 'classical' mix. Didn't have any booze, as this was quite expensive (I'll point out however, that this seems to be the case across Marakech, so not a criticism in itself).

Only minor criticism (and I'm scratching my head for one here) is that we were ran out of hot water on a few occasions when running the bath and when the riad was full, showering in the morning. As long as you don't pack too much gear, then you wont find the slightly smallish room a problem either (I can't speak for the other rooms).

Many thanks Peter - you were a great host and we are happy to recommend you to all who will listen ;-) If Fatima could run a mini cooking school, it would be great, as our crazy/intense cooking session in the southern end of the medina left a slightly bitter taste in the mouth.

the area this riad ( oops dar) is in could be tricky to find at night and there was a fight between some locals the night we arrived! However the locals are very friendly and will direct you for a small fee! The staff in the riad are extremely helpful and the gave us a little guide into the centre when we arrived which was very helpful. It is walking distance to the souks. There is a nice roof terrace where you can see the Atlas mountains and a cool courtyard and nice log fire. The bathroom and bedroom in our room were not divided. Watch out for the guy who made the red curtains and bedspreads on his loom - he lives round the corner and makes lovely hand made bedspreads

Many of the reviewers have already pointed out the benefits and the qualities of a stay at Dar Zamam. Actually, this is the reason why we selected the particular road. We can cofirm that indeed Dar Zaman is a wonderful place to stay while in Marrakech. The location is great--in a quiet corner away from the noises and bussle of the souks; the rooms are sophisticated (design), very clean, and comfortable; the breakfast on the terrace is delicious and plentiful; Fatima and Hassan are welcoming and attentive; Peter will help you understand how to navigate the labyrinthine medina and offer suggestions for what to see and do in and around the city; and finally, Dar Zaman is afamtastic place when you want to relax and enjoy the culture of Morocco/Marrakech. It should not be missed.

We had such a great time at Dar Zaman that I felt I must write a review - although I have little to add to the other reviews! This really is a place that feels like your home and an oasis of calm amidst the wonderful madness of Marrakech. We felt totally relaxed and at home from the moment Hassan met us from the taxi, his smile was a great welcome to a great city. Fatima's meal on our first night was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for either of them throughout our stay. The main square is less than 15 minutes walk away and the rest of the medina an easy stroll, other attractions such as the Jardin Majorelle are within 30 minutes walk or taxis are readily available nearby. One evening we ate at Dar Zellij - it's a top quality restaurant (the hairy bikers rate it the 8th best eating place in the world but don't let that put you off) and is less than 5 minutes walk away.

The best thing about this riad though is the way you are made to feel so welcome - truly your own home in Marrakech.
