“A delightful Riad with great hosts”
Reviewed 30 August 2010

We stayed for one week in this beautiful Riad. Mohammed, Hagiba and Najet were really great hosts and thanks to the owner Philip for his patience answering all our questions via email. The Riad is well located in a quiet non-touristic area, which is a good contrast to the other buzzling quarters of Marrakesch. Thanks for all your efforts, it was very interesting to get an idea of Marrakesch. I hope we will come back.

There are many riads in Marrakech to choose from - in fact a bewildering array. We decided on Riad Porte Royal because it seemed to have a very restful, tasteful aesthetic and we were seeking a sanctuary from which to make forays into the full-on madness of central Marrakech. And so it proved. The riad itself is very tranquil and beautifully presented in an architecturally- restrained way (more to an English person's taste, I think than some of the garish interiors that can be seen in other riads). However, this never felt cold or unwelcoming - on the contrary, for our stay of 5 days it always felt like home. This was due in no small part to the discreet but attentive service offered by the couple who look after the house, both of whom speak excellent English. Breakfasts are really good - plenty of variety - and we thought the accommodation represented excellent value for money. Overall, a brilliant package and an outstanding riad!

The Owner, Philip, answered our queries and requests promptly and in detail and was so helpful even before we arrived. On arrival The Riad was just as described and utterly relaxing and more than we all expected. Hajiba and Mohammed were the perfect hosts and nothing appeared to be too much trouble, We could not have wished for them to be more helpful or accomodating during our stay. There were 12 'girls' in our Group and the Riad was the perfect place to accomodate us all with its spacious rooms and terrace.

it was flawless. lovely riad, quiet peaceful location, cooling plunge pool, cold beer on demand, the best breakfast we had in morocco. amazing staff. my son (11) loved the two tortoise who live on the roof.
if i really want to quibble, i could say that there is very little space to put away clothes, but that applies to most traditional riads. and its quite a long walk to the souks, but thats why its so lovely and peaceful.
all in all, its 10 out of 10.

Beautifully restored riad with gorgeous courtyard and plunge pool, extremely comfortable beds with quality linens and pillows, lovely tadelakt bathrooms, sunny rooftop terrace with sunloungers (and tortoises!). The owner has put thought into trying to make these usually noisy (tiled, echoing) houses as peaceful and quiet as possible and we got the best sleep of the 4 riads I have stayed in.

I found this riad on the Owners Direct website. Owner, Philip, was extremely helpful prior to trip, answering all questions quickly and making other arrangements such as looking after our luggage during a side-trip to Fes. Travelling with my husband, mother and niece for some of the holiday, our arrangements were a bit complicated and we appreciated the personal service. Mohamed is a friendly and reliable on-site manager. Internet and free Wi-Fi on-site.

We found the location pleasant and quiet with few tourists; the 15 - 20 min walk into and out of the centre of the medina was not a problem for my husband and I. I think my elderly mother would have preferred to have been a bit closer to the centre.

Overall, we found this riad to be first-rate, and excellent value. I would definitely stay here again, and fully recommend it.

Stayed for two weeks at the RPR and it was a fantastic experience. I was in contact with them beforehand and they sorted out various things for me, and while there the friendly staff helped with anything I needed done. It's in a nice, quiet area that gives quick exit from the Medina through a nearby gate. The building itself is gorgeous, completely refurbished in a very modern style. The roof terrace gets great sun, though when I was there it was a bit chilly. Recommended.
