Stayed in the Riad Carina for 4 nights with my husband and was really pleased with our choice!

You cannot beat the location: it's down a quiet side street literally next door to the El Badi Palace (about 20dirham entry for us two which is about £1.50 - Saadian Tombs is even cheaper), which is handy if you need a place for the taxi driver to drop you off as they all know where the palace is and there's a taxi rank just off the top of the alley; it's a 10 min stroll to the main Djemma down a really obvious route you can't get lost on; and the alley pops out right opposite the little square where you'll find the Kosy Bar and, on the corner, Le Tagina restaurant (both very good and sell alcohol). Basically, it's so close to all the action that you can pop in and out of the riad all day, take regular breaks from the craziness and need never use a public loo! (sad I know, but I do like a nice loo and if you slip up and drink the tap water/something weird, you will be grateful!!).

Like everyone says, the staff here are fab - we did a cooking lesson with the lovely Aziza and it was GREAT, learnt so much and she gave us a ton of recipe ideas to take home, def recommend you give it go. However, when you go out with her to the local market to choose your food, she will take you to her friend's stall where you will feel pushed into buying something - we hadn't really got a grasp on the currency and ended up paying about £9 for a bag of garam masala!! She did not exactly try and get us the best deal there. Do the class, but be prepared for that. Also be aware that the staff's English is not super great and we did have a slight communication breakdown with how they wanted us to pay our bill (FYI you need to pay it ALL in cash). They are genuinely warm, helpful and smiley though so this is not meant to be a criticsm. Google the riad as they have a website for the 3 riads in this group - you can also go visit the other two riads and enjoy complementary mint tea and use of their terraces etc, we spend a few hours at the riad Viva and had a great massage (not free, worth the v reasonable price though).

Another point I would add about this riad - check what kind of room you are booking. When we booked we weren't given an option as to the standard of room we were booking and there is QUITE a range. All are perfectly clean but we were packed off to a building two doors down which was nowhere near as charming as the main riad and the room we were given was very small with NO DOOR between the toilet/shower and the bedroom. Not exactly private! We managed to get upgraded rooms for a couple of nights but we would have been happy to have paid a bit more and had these nicer ones all the time.

We ate here on two evenings and the food was lovely, really tasty and LOTS of it!!

All in all, riad Carina is in a great spot and is a tranquil little oasis away from the chaos of the city, would definitely recommend. Wherever you choose to stay, brush up on your French before you go - we needed it here more than we ever did in France! - be friendly but firm with the traders and take time to chill at regular intervals so you don't burn out :)

Riad Carina is in a great location, 10 minutes walk from the main square. The staff, especially Said, were super friendly and helpful, ready at a moments notice for recommendations and advice. Nothing felt like too much trouble. We had breakfast in the riad every morning, the food was delicious and varied and the chefs were happy to make any special requested dishes. We were in the next door building which although wasn't made clear at the time of the booking, it was fine. You could have mint tea/ coffee on request at any time of day at no extra charge and the riad also served alcoholic drinks which you could have on the roof of the riad. All in all a lovely stay, would definitely recommend.
