We stayed five nights at this beautiful Riad. We arranged an airport pickup with the Riad which dropped us off at a small square deep inside the souks; our case was then transferred to a small cart, pushed by the Riads porter, he guided us down the street to the Riad which was only 5 minutes walking distance, it would have been difficult to find without him.
This Riad is the ideal place to stay when visiting Marrakech we were looking for a place near Jamaa El-FNA, but not too close. This Riad is only 10 minutes walking distance from Jamaa El-FNA. So, after walking the souks, we returned to Riad to regain our energy, and we were so pleased to be able to rest in a very quiet place even though it is in the middle of the action, the Riad is very quiet, you only hear the birds.
The staff at the riad were lovely and very helpful. I only discovered at the end of the stay that the Riad had free wifi. There are only 4 bedrooms in the riad, but all the rooms are very spacious and comfortable.
We strongly recommend that on your first night in Marrakech you should have dinner at the Riad. It was our most romantic dinner the food was delicious, and the service was excellent, the breakfast were delicious as well.

Wine is available in the riad but not freely available in the medina unfortunately. Lovely roof terrace
Overall, our experience at Riad Dar Eliane was excellent. The room was cleaned; the service was professional, and very helpful. If we return to Marrakech, without any doubt, we will stay at Riad Dar Eliane.

We had an excellent time in Marrakech and a very pleasant stay at Riad Dar Eliane, (which felt like a home from home) perfectly located within minutes of the main square and the souks and within easy reach of local restaurants and cultural sites. In particular, we all thought how wonderful Bouchra and her team were, they couldn't do enough for us and they all were so welcoming and kind. The chefs’ cooking is to be highly commended and we hope to return at some point in the near future. We highly recommend eating in at Riad Dar Eliane.

We stayed at Riad Dar Eliane as part of our trip to Marrakech in December 2010. This is an excellent Riad, with all the charm and character of the original building but refurbished to provide modern facilities. We found everything first class - food, service and so forth. The riad is centrally located so that everything is within a stone's throw. The staff at the Riad were extremely helpful and friendly. We found nothing to fault and I'm sure that we will be returning soon.

Once inside it's charming, clean and comfortable. But getting there is horrific. I travelled with my wife, her sister and husband and none of could believe the disgusting alleyways that you have to walk through to find this place. You have to pass by mounds of filth and rubbish - bodies of dead cats and piles of discarded rotten vegetables. We were met at the airport by a taxi (150 dirahms) who then dropped us in the Medina where we then had to put our bags in a 2 wheeled cart which was then pushed by some local as close as he could get to the Riad - but because of the state of the alleys we still then had to carry our bags the final bit - and they had the cheek to charge us another 30 dirhams.
I have now been to Marrakech 3 times - this place is not for the feint hearted - there must be better RIads in nicer locations than this. By the way on our arrival thay gave us each a nice glass of orange juice - just what we needed - but put that on the final bill at the end - say no more!

We are always pleased to receive feedback from our clients and we thank you for your positive comment that Riad Dar Eliane is charming, clean and comfortable.

I am sure you would acknowledge that we are not responsible for the day to day cleaning of the streets and alleyways in the Medina which are cleaned every night, throughout the night by low paid local authority street cleaners, the Medina is densely populated which makes their task all the more difficult, but they are assiduous and they do there very best to keep the main streets and alleyways clean and tidy, a thankless task. I do feel that you have overstated your criticism and that you are being rather melodramatic with reference to the rubbish and dead cats.

We are sorry you feel so aggrieved concerning the 30 dirham (£2.00) for the porter, it was not obligatory that you pay the porter 30 dirham for escorting and helping you and your three family members with your luggage to Riad Dar Eliane it is entirely within your discretion whether you pay him or not. If you objected to paying the porter and voiced your reluctance to do so to us at the time then we would have been more than happy to tip him for performing this service.
The airport is located about 8 km (5 miles) from Marrakech Medina which is about a 20 min taxi ride unfortunately the going rate for 4 persons travelling in a Grand taxi (Mercedes salon) is 150 dirham which I believe in the current climate (oil currently at a premium rate) to be a fair price.

I find it bizarre that having visited Marrakesh before you are not familiar with any of the above.

Finally to be fair upon your arrival we gave you four litres of complimentary water, we are sorry you feel aggrieved about paying for the four extra glasses of orange if you would been so kind as to mentioned to us you consider the four glasses to also be complimentary when presented your with your final bill we would have been more than happy to remove the item from your bill.

When we arrived at the airport our flight was slightly delayed and the taxi was there to meet us then he waited whilst we qued up to exchanged our money.

Dropped us near the Riad, we were slightly apprehensive when he dropped us off as it was dark and we thought we were going to get lost down all the Marrakesh alleys/souks. Then a porter came and took our bags, we were met by Slimen who was more then welcoming, he made us feel right at home. He directed us to a gorgeous restaurant for some classic Moroccan food, which we highly recommend, it is around a 2min walk from the Riad.

Our room was beautiful, we felt safe and comfortable immediately. All very clean and room was tidied and cleaned every day! As the Riad is open air, you get woken up around 6ish when they call pray then again at 7 with the birds - but all adds to the experience and we got use to it and wouldn’t have it any other way.

The walk to the square was fairly daunting on the first day but again we got use to it fairly quickly, we didn’t get lost once!

Stay here you will not be disappointed.

If you want traditional architecture and hospitality at its best, then the Riad Dar Eliane is for you. The location is on the northern side of the ancient Medina, and just a 10 minute walk to the famous Jamma el fna square, where it all happens. The transfer taxi drops you off in a small square. Access to the riad is down a winding street roughly 200 metres.

The riad is entered through a large wooden studded door from a derb, and through the hallway is the wonderful traditional courtyard so characteristic of the Medina.

We stayed in the room of our choice which was off the first floor gallery with en-suite, a good shower and lashings of powerful hot water throughout the day. Breakfast was continental style with local jams and pancakes, coffee and/or mint tea always available and being offered. There is a long lounge for relaxation complete with internet, TV and DVD, and a library of books in the small salon in the traditional courtyard.

Bouchra the manageress is an exemplary host, she booked several good restaurants, one particularly good restaurant, “Le Foundouk” she booked for us on our last night and arranged for Slemien to accompany us to the door of the restaurant to ensure we did not get lost.

The Medina was a cultural shock to us on arrival, and in particular the mayhem of the streets, filled with traders, stalls, beggars, unrelenting mopeds winding in and around pedestrians, donkey carts, horse drawn carriages, and taxis (where they can get through). The air had the smell of the Medina, not unpleasant, but spicy and heady. After a couple of days, we soon adapted and became adept at steering and navigating our way through to the square, the people are friendly, so don't feel intimidated by the sheer numbers of the population you will encounter, many are helpful if you are lost, or if they think you are lost.

We highly recommend the Riad Dar Eliane.

We stayed 4 nights at Riad Dar Eliane for our first visit to Marrakech; We booked a transfer from the airport through their website and the driver was waiting in the arrivals hall with a sign with our name as arranged, when we arrived it was late in the morning, Bouchra welcomed us with a mint tea and showed us around the Riad.
The Riad is right in the middle of the medina (old city) it is beautifully decorated in traditional Moroccan style and ideally situated for exploring the souks and historical sites which is definitely the way to go if you want to be immersed in the real beauty and uniqueness of Marrakech.
The one thing that sticks out the most is the service at the Riad the employees were top notch, and treated us very well everybody was very nice and extra attentive our room and the Riad was always kept very clean and tidy. If you want to have a real Marrakech experience then this is the perfect place. I would highly recommend it.
