“Beautiful riad, great service, quiet but central location”
Reviewed 14 September 2010

We spent 4 days at Riad Akka in their 'best' room. The room was huge, huge bathroom and lovely bath (great to soak away tired muscles after walking for hours in the souks). Adiz (sorry, cant remamber spelling) was the local Moroccan night manager and breakfast server - he was lovely, good english, polite - he even went out shopping to get me some good quality saffron to take home. French lady owns the riad and anther french lady is the day manager -both lovely ladies who were more than happy to help with questions or restaurant recommendations. We had a lovely dinner in the riad on the last night which was great. The pool is fantastic for cooling off in after the 40 degree heat. Location is about a 5-10minute walk to the main square, but down a quiet alley, which meant our sleeps were very peaceful. For the price - this place is great value (only 4 rooms too!) - much cheaper than other riads, but nicer decor and great staff.
Cant wait to get back there!

We had a fantastic break in Morocco and the staff and surroundings at Riad Akka made the whole trip extra special. They were welcoming, friendly and went out of their way to help us book activities and find our way around the city. The Riad itself is beautifully deorated and clean. The food was fantastic and the Hammam comes highly reccomended.

Would reccomend this Riad to anyone visiting Marrakech.

We spent 7 nights at Riad Akka and loved it. We were there during a really hot spell - temperatures of 48 degrees plus and only down to 35 at night! However this place was a welcome respite from the heat - the plunge pool was a fab way to cool down. It was quiet and relaxing away from the mayhem of Djemna El Fna, which was only a ten minute walk away. We spent many a relaxing afternoon reading in the lounge area, where you could also watch TV if you wanted. We stayed in the Telouet room - it was clean and roomy, with lovely decor, aircon, a great shower and comfy bed. Breakfasts were a good way to start the day - fresh fruit, yoghurt, coffee, breads, potato cakes. The transfer from the airport was also good - Mohammed guided us safely through the alley ways to the Riad - we would never have found it on our own at that time of night. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Definitely treat yourself to the in house Hammam. We recommend taking a day trip to Essaouria under your own steam using Supratour buses (140 Dirham return; 2hr journey) and skip Cascades D'Ouzoud. Also buy your water outside of the Riad - 50 dirhams in house vs 10 dirhams outside.
We would definitely stay there again - would love see the large fireplace in action!

We booked a room in Riad Akka after having read about it in the Lonely Planet Guide, and what a find! The Riad is tucked away from all the madness of Marrakesh but 10 minutes or less away from all the main parts of the medina. The staff were all very kind and spoke good English, and had lots of advice of where to visit, eat and drink. The Riad has a beautiful roof terrace and freezing plunge pool, perfect for relaxing in the sun and cooling off afterwards (which we did a lot as it was the hottest day of the year when we arrived!). There is also an in house Hammam, where couples can relax and have a good scrub down. In the mornings a delicious breakfast is served either on the terrace, should you wish, or down on the ground floor where you can chill on the big sofas and read a book in the cool. Thank you for having us to stay Riad Akka! We will be back soon.

We were in Morocco for our christmas of 2009 (I know took a long time to write a review, but since am writing one after all this time shows how much we enjoyed our stay here). Riad Akka was the best choice we could have made to stay in Marrakech. Located very close to the main square and shopping centers. Staff was Top Notch. Loved the local shopping and cooking class by Mbarka and the other two very friendly ladies in the kitchen (by the way Michael did make the chicken with olives was very yummy). And then both Mbarka and Ali serenaded us through our dinner that night. The Riad Akka was as much a vacation for us, as the whole trip. Really great service, rooms, location and the best part was great people we got to meet there. Thank you Mbarka, Ali and the other two ladies(sorry forgot your names) for a great stay.

Hidden in the back streets near the Palais de Bahia, this riad is a delight. The whole area is being renovated at the moment and will soon be very stylish. The riad itself is delightful; the best one during our stay in Morocco. We received a warm welcome from Mbarka, the manager, who spent some time telling us about Marrakesh, places of interest and restaurants.

Our room was delightful - dark chololate coloured walls, with a vibrant mix of colours around the room.... turquoise and orange. Nights were peaceful except for the call to prayer around 5am.... Boots ear plugs worked fine!

The walk into the centre of the City took about 10 minutes along the alleyways, with lots of shops and stalls to pass and browse. There is always lots of encouragement from the locals to stop and buy, but a polite 'non merci' is usually accepted with graciousness.

Whilst we were staying, the owners of the riad were visiting from Paris and could not have been more accommodating and helpful. We were made to feel as if the riad was our 'home' and they kindly let us use the riad's facilities till our late afternoon plane departure.

I would thoroughly recommend this riad.
