Upon our arrival at Riad Dar Zahia (using their airport transfer service), our hosts Antonio, Corine, Audrey and Naima gave us a warm welcome with a cup of traditional Moroccan mint tea with delicious local pastries.
The atmosphere at the Riad is extremely friendly and they really try to make you feel at home! Also, they are always available to answer all the questions you might have about the city and suggest further excursions in the nearby area.
The breakfast is amazing (we liked to call it "the Pasha's breakfast"): orange juice, arabic crepes, home-made jams, Moroccan yogurt with almonds, eggs, honey, local bread, fruit salad, cake or pastries, coffee... bon appétit!
Antonio is a very interesting man with a lot of stories to tell and we particularly enjoyed his company and sharing our daily "adventures" with him...
Overall, an amazing 4-day stay at Riad Dar Zahia made us feel very nostalgic on our way home... highly recommended and certainly our reference Riad in Marrakech!

Room Tip: We suggest to book the Superior Suite - it is amazing

Riad Dar Zahia is stunning..the décor is perfect blend of old elegance and comfort. I was afraid that the picture will be better than the reality, but it is just as beautiful as the picture if not better.
We do like the location of the Riad, yes it is like going into the maze to find it, but once you are inside it is very quite and tranquil... also since this is only a 3 rooms Riad, the feel is intimate.
The host while I was there was Antonio, Corrine and Audrey. They are all very nice and very accommodating, they also tried to make you feel as if the riad is your own home and you are part of it. They prepared our breakfast at 6.30 am since we have an early flight with no problem.
For the food, breakfast was wonderful, especially the fruit jam/confit, and if you need something that is not yet on the table, just feel free to ask and they will be happy to make it for you. Dinner was also really well done. The balance of the taste was just perfect.
All in all it was an amazing days in Marrakech... we were sad to leave the riad and hope one day we can come back again and see them again.
Note: having a prearranged transport if not for both ways is a good thing as this is not an easy riad to find for the first time.

Room Tip: All 3 rooms are beautiful and have a character of its own. We stayed both in a room upstairs and the...

There are two Riad Dr Zahia in Marrakech and this is the one owned and operated by Emanuela, a young Italian that speaks good English. We arrived by air and had the prearranged taxi waiting after a length process of entry customs. Emanuela met us at the entry with a man and his cart to carry our bags to the Riad. This was the start of a 3 week trip through Morocco and fortunately we picked a perfect Riad for our first 4 nights. The rooms are nice sized, comfortable and nicely furnished in Moroccan style. The Riad is beautiful with an attractive atrium with small pool and a retractable roof. The recessed lounge areas off the atrium are quite pleasant and the location for breakfast and dinners if you elect to arrange an evening meal at the Riad. Do not miss out on eating at the Riad. Two of the best meals of our trip were the dinners that we prepared true to custom and explained by the wonderful staff that prepared and served. Emanuela did everything possible to be sure we had a full calendar of things to see and do and where to eat. We got lost in the Medina, rather late, on our first night and ended up at the other Riad Dar Zahia. They gave us directions through the Medina maze and when we arrived Emanuela was dressed and about ready to go out looking for us. A bit embarassing. Our time passed too fast and we were sorry to leave.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem nice. Typical of a Riad is the potential for noise in the atrium if guests retur...

When I started looking for a Riad to stay in, Dar Zahia stood out. Lovely pictures and really good reviews. But I was surprised, as having expected to be staying in Dar Zahia, that I found out we would actually be staying in it's sister hotel Riad Anjar. I thought this was a bit misleading!

This Riad was lovely though. Lovely bedrooms, very comfortable beds, gorgeous big bathtubs, and an amazing roof terrace. The location was great - very close walking distance to the Souks and Jemaa El Fna, but still incredibly quite and tranquil.

As lovely as the Riad was, I felt the hospitality was lacking. My boyfriend and I had arranged to do a visit to the Cascades d'Ouzoud, which meant we had to leave by 8am. We were told on arrival if we needed an early breakfast all we had to do was ask. When it actually came to asking the lady huffed and was clearly very annoyed and put out.

We also did an overnight trip to the desert, which meant one night we didn't end up sleeping at the hotel. On our arrival back the following morning we were accused of having ran off without paying! Not sure how she managed to come to that conclusion as all our clothes, suitcases and passports were still in our room.

Lovely hotel. Unfriendly service.

Snaking your way through the alleyways of the historic old town you cannot imagine what you will soon discover . Behind a single door in the wall is a corridor lined with photos leading to a wonderful courtyard garden . At each end small lounges are tucked away in nooks. In the centre tables dressed beautifully and with fresh flowers . Rising above this courtyard is a balcony which on either side has the riads superior suites. These have stained glass windows, carved wooden shutters and antique furniture . The ensuite bathrooms have brass wash basins and traditional tiled showers . On the level above this is a roof terrace where you can sit in the shade . Breakfasts are a sumptuous affair - brown seeded bread, four types of preserves, pastries , yoghurt , fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange and good coffee. This is so individual and special it beats all the big hotels with their corporate offerings and faceless if opulent facades. You won't be disappointed if you book here

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe suites - it's worth the extra

We arrived at the door of Dar Zahia after dark having followed our escort through a maze of ever narrowing streets and alleyways not quite knowing what to expect. As the heavy door was opened a gentle light from a trail of candles streamed out we and entered into the beauty and peace of the riad. With the delicate scent of amber and musk and the very gentle, soothing music our travel weary bodies were soon soothed and relaxed.

We were greeted by Paolo and his lovely team of ladies. Their manner was gentle and obliging and every effort was made to relax and welcome us into what should be described as a luxurious home. Dar Zahia has a very special feel of being luxuriously spoiling but in a subtle and discrete way. It is comfortable and spacious, and while the accommodation feels open one can retreat into privacy at any time. Our bed was strewn with rose petals and was heavenly to sleep in! It was amazingly quiet at night and in the early morning.

Breakfast was a feast, beautifully prepared and plentiful to set us up for the adventures of the day ahead. If it so suits you can request a private dinner cooked by one of the lovely ladies - book ahead. At the end of the day it was fabulous to take a drink and enjoy the cooling of the evening on the roof terrace - all we had to do was request what we wanted and it appeared!

While the riad is beautiful, and may compare to well to others, what sets it apart is the kindness and hospitality of Paolo and Emanuela. Paola has an incredible sense of what suits his guests and advises on restaurants, shopping, spas and site-seeing accordingly. His hand drawn map was invaluable - if you like to plan ahead share your thoughts with Paolo and he will hone your plans to make them really work for you.

All in all we had a magical trip, experiencing the marvels of old and the new Marrakech with all the hustle and haggling, the crush and the wonders of the city with the knowledge that we could escape and recover in the haven of Dar Zahia at any time - or take a plunge and sunbathe at the sister Riad Anjar. Thank you to Paolo for making our trip so special and memorable.

We have been to Marrakech a few times and stayed in exquisite raids each time. Riad dar Zahia was a little smaller but did not disappoint. The Sakina suite for 3 nights was perfect. The stained glass, the warm colours of the furnishings and the antiques were all beautiful to be surrounded by. Paolo was always attentive and very helpful with any special requests. Personally, I could have done without the serene music but that's just a matter of taste. We ate at the Riad one evening - it was good but quite expensive.
