“Quiet oasis of tranquility just about sums it up”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

Stayed here from 3rd July 2014 for 11 nights. I can only echo what most people have said. Hotel staff are efficient and friendly and want only for you to have the best holiday experience. Aside from the quick check in, beautifully appointed rooms, immaculately clean hotel everywhere, little touches like canopy beds/couples beds around the grounds, the guest service manager Imad came around consistently throughout our stay asking all guests if they were happy and if there was anything that could be done to improve their stay. Of course, sometimes things don't always go to your liking but in our experience they bend over backwards to solve the problem to your satisfaction. Our steak night didn't quite go as planned and as Imad came to our table to to ask us about it (we're not ones to complain unless it was really bad and this wasn't... Just a mistake with me not wanting sauce on my steak and us having to eat separately) but they insisted on a free steak meal the following night which they made sure was perfect. I always think the test of a great hotel is not what they get right but how they deal with things that go wrong. I must say this is warranted 5 star service. The hotel is small but this leads to an intimate environment, just perfect if you want to escape to somewhere tranquil for a complete relax ( we went during Ramadan and even the call to prayer frequently throughout the day didn't really spoil the tranquility ). As otherwise mentioned, the entertainment is casual just like the hotel but we are not ones who are really bothered and in our well travelled experience it rarely is up to much in most hotels. I am fussy with food but the restaurant is excellent and I always managed to eat well. The nice touches were even there when we left, with Imad, reps and even the hotel manager Frederic, who we saw regularly during our stay came out to say farewell and come back soon. How may other hotels have you ever had that in? Not many I warrant. Don't take note of any negativity regarding this hotel. You will be hard pushed to find anywhere so well placed, and so welcoming. I would recommend this hotel to family and friends which is a great endorsement in itself. Book it people....you won't be disappointed.

Spent a very enjoyable relaxing fortnight at the Medina Gardens. The food was excellent and the service provided by the bar staff, restaurant staff and cleaners was spot on. We paid for a Jacuzzi room which was very nice. I would recommend getting a Jacuzzi room on the first floor if possible as the ones on the ground floor are not very private. (The Jacuzzi is outside the room).
Ahmed and Sarah, the Thomson reps were very helpful as was Iman the hotel liaison manager.
We spent most of the time when in the hotel by the quiet pool which was good and away from the sometimes loud main pool.
The location of the hotel is excellent for a 10 minute walk into the square and Souk and 2 minutes walk to an Artesian Market just outside the Hotel.
Down sides to the hotel, well there was really only two, Firstly, the food in the Indian restaurant was not as good as the food in the main restaurant. Secondly, Mutters and Mumbles, the so called entertainment. To say the were poor would be an understatement, an opinion agreed by many people we spoke to whilst we were there.
Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday at the hotel and will probably go back again.
Word of warning. Nothing at all to do with the hotel but it took us nearly 2 hours between touching down at Marrakech airport and getting to the coach. 90 minutes of this was spent waiting at passport control.

Room Tip: If you are booking a Jacuzzi upgrade, ask for a room on the first floor, not the ground floor.

It's not often a hotel beats expectation but the Medina Gardens certainly did this.

From arrival the place oozed class. A small welcoming party with a cold juice drink and towel before a very speedy and efficient check-in.

The room was lovely. Gigantic comfy bed, 32" flat screen tv facing it (several British channels including Sky News). There is a fridge in each room that had a nice cold (free) bottle of Coca Cola in, a complementary bottle of red wine and also water which was all a great touch. The shower is powerful with constant hot water. The free wifi worked great in the room and all over the hotel.

The 2 pools are bliss. A great ambience around them. One large pool and a separate smaller 'relaxation' pool set a bit further back which is nice when you like a couple of hours of silence.

The buffet food was really nice and fresh. Something different every night and your staples of pasta and salads each night if you are fussy. Breakfast was the same each day with made to order omelettes and fried eggs amongst Moroccan pastries etc.

The bureau de exchange is open every day except Sunday in the reception and gives you the government set rates so no need to change any money at the airport on arrival.

The grounds of the hotel are lush with plenty of room to grab a sunbed or a 4 poster couch bed. The 10-15 double couch loungers do get snapped up early but in 7 days we got a great spot every day within having to do a 5am towel run!

The welcome meeting is very informative and Ahmed the rep is constantly smiling and can't do enough for you. We went on one fill day trip (9.30am - 4.30am) and saw everything in the old town you couple really want to or need to see. The trip was about £30 each and you can pay in £ which works out cheaper the Moroccan DMS.

The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect. Just in the old town of Marrakech a stones throw from the main square and ten minutes from the centre of the new town. A lot of hotels are a bit further out which would mean getting taxis to the main sights.

The all inclusive beer was great, as was the wine and cocktails.

I really cannot fault this hotel in any way and feel very smug for once picking the perfect hotel.

If you're looking for a relaxing holiday to de-stress and take on the sights of Marrakech, then you will not be disappointed.

Rooms have hair dryers, toiletries, towels, everything you need.

We used the onsite gym too. This has treadmills, free weights and a few machines. Sufficient for most gym goers and a nice place to actually cool down in the cold aircon.

Stayed here from 10th-17th July 2014 after reading the reviews on this site.Wife and I are quite picky when we stay anywhere and I have to say this hotel is fab! from the moment you arrive you are well looked after by the staff and Natalie's review is spot on-from the easy booking in to food available even though we arrived well after the restaurant had closed. Rooms are good, clean and the aircon, bottles of water, coke, red wine are all welcome, not to mention you have a fridge to keep things cool along with your safety deposit box-all free of charge.Iron available if you ask from reception-no charge and there are hairdryers in the room.We found the food good and of differing variety through the week and, although both of us did have the odd day off feeling 'a little off' we weren't ill like others and so it can be a bit of a lottery on that score - this is Morrocco after all and it was in the 40'sC some days!!
Staff were all excellent I have to say and if you take the time to get to know names and use the same ones regular, all the better. Even the General manager mucked in when booking us all in from the long journey there.Special mention to Sarah the lonely Geordie lass who tried to keep us amused(remember to feed the cats Sarah!), to Abdelloah who was always there to fill our glasses with water and/or red wine (which was fab by the way-local 'Kazbah' red) and to Imad who's extra touch of leaving a 'Happy Annivarsary ' message in flowers on the bed and a bottle of bubbly was a great surprise.
Finally, Excursions-visit the Souks and Place Jema El Fna (main Square is a ten minute walk) a must see or you might aswell not go to Marrakech,Be prepared to haggle! Camel ride was fun, Majorelle Gardens not so good!
Overall, a great stay in the middle of an amazing city

Room Tip: Garden view(front of hotel) for view towards City and Atlas mountains giving late afternoon sun and...

I stayed in this hotel from 10th July - 17th July and it was absolutely lovely from the moment we arrived. I travelled with my mum, and the hotel was sold to us as an adults only hotel rather than a couples, of course most of the people there were with their partners, but there were an odd few of us that were family or friends.

Transfer and Check In.
We landed on the evening of the 10th, loaded onto the coach, and quickly taken to the hotel, the transfer wasn't more than 20 minutes, which was brilliant because the coach was quite toasty! We were greeted with cold refreshing towels, fruit juice and Moroccan cakes and biscuits. Our suitcases were brought in, and in our packs we were given luggage tags with our room numbers on, so that our luggage could be taken up for us. By this time, me and my mum went for food and a walk around to get our bearings.

The Room.
We stayed in room 306 which was a garden view room, less view of the gardens and more the amazing vast landscape, the view was breathtaking, definitely better than the pool view in my opinion, a pool is a pool right? But old town morocco on your doorstep isn't the norm! We got into our room, which was lovely, a massive queen sized bed with about a million pillows, complimentary bathrobes, water, coke and of course that all important red wine! In the wardrobes there was a safe that you could use free of charge. There was also fully working air con, which was an absolute life saver as it was so hot!

The Food.
Now I'm quite fussy about food, but there was always something for me to eat. Each night there was a different theme, the first night was Med Night, then Moroccan, there was also a french night, Italian, far eastern, and Wednesday is always gala night, it has a chocolate fountain. We also booked into the Indian, more of that to come soon! The food was of a good standard and a lot of it was cooked on the spot for you, at breakfast there was pancakes, pastries, cereals, toast, fried egg station, an omelette station, fruit, meats, cheeses. You name it, it was there. Lunch was a mixture of pizza's, chips, different burgers, soups, breads, a veggie corner. In the evenings there was always a Moroccan corner with different tagines, they were ridiculously good! The puddings were pretty good too, loads of different cakes to choose from, and 3 choices of ice cream too.

The Indian.
We booked in for the Indian on the Sunday night (do note, you can only do this once for free during your stay), it was a sort of congrats as I've just passed all my exams to do teaching! We were greeted at 7:15 and shown to our table, there's a set menu to choose from, but it's around 5 courses. I had the chicken salad, the lamb biryani and the ice cream, my mum had the normal salad, chicken tikka and no desert. After my desert was served they brought out a cake saying congratulations! It was lovely... Not so much the next day. After having her dish, the next day my mum developed stomach cramps, and during the Monday evening through until the Tuesday she suffered an extreme upset stomach. She wasn't the only one to suffer, another 5 people that dined with us that evening had the same symptoms. In all honesty, please don't go. I don't want it to spoil your experience!

The Drinks.
Most of the drinks on the all inclusive package were of course all inclusive, but a couple of the nice cocktails you had to pay for, 55dh, which works out at around £4, pretty pricey for what you're getting, so I stuck to fanta! The drinks from the Lobby Bar were always cooler than the ones from the Pool Bar.

The Spa.
Me and my mum also booked in for a spa session, we each had the 'Beldi Package', it was an exfoliation, with 2 massages, it was 75 euros, or 750dh, which works out at around £50, ridiculously good value for money!

The Grounds.
There are 2 pools, the main one, and the quiet one, both in all honesty are pretty quiet, a couple of activities during the day and that was it until the night time entertainment started at half 9. Through out the whole grounds there was day beds, hanging eggs, and loads of sun loungers, so no need to fight. There was also a souvenir shop, but every time we went to it, it was closed, but there were tortoises around the shop, so the daily walk to the shop ended up being the daily feeding time!

Entertainment.
In my opinion the entertainment was really lacking, there wasn't all that much to do during the day, maybe an aqua gym class, or a bit of yoga and that was it. The evening entertainment didn't normally start until half 9 and was usually over by quarter past 10, bit disappointing. There were a couple of acts that came to the hotel, a Moroccan dance troupe, a fire breather to name a couple, but again, over by quarter past 10. Guy and Jack were resident musicians, and did the quiz night in the Lobby Bar, probably one of the highlights of the entertainment, it really does need improvements!

I really do hope this has helped you, apart from the upset stomach from the indian, the holiday was absolutely faultless, the local staff were brilliant, and always happy to help!
Hope you have fun if you stay!

Room Tip: Garden facing rooms have a brilliant view of old town Morocco!

A truly beautiful setting inside the "old city" and just a stones through from the main square and Souks.
The gardens are very well kept and provide a very relaxing setting for sunbathing and relaxing. Alternatively you can have a sun bed around the main pool (there's another pool in the garden area).
The hotel cleaning staff keep the place spotless and the NHS would benefit from such a fantastic level of cleanliness.
Hotel staff very helpful and accommodating except for one member of the bar staff, Moustafa, who seemed sullen by comparison. This might have been due to Ramadan but his attitude was very noticeable due to the others' smiling and friendly disposition.
The food was a bit "samey" and although there were "theme nights" in the restaurant, the food only varied slightly. Best evenings were the Far East and Mexican. Restaurant service staff very friendly and on the whole attentive although had a long wait for water and wine on a couple of occasions.
It would be nice if one of the three outdoor eating areas could be designated a non smoking area as putting up with others smoking in 40 degrees is not pleasant if you're a non-smoker.
The separate "Indian" restaurant was a source of amusement rather than quality food. Nothing like authentic Indian and indeed nothing like an "British" Indian restaurant either. We and the other 4 people had a laugh but none of us would return to the Indian again.
The bedroom (no. 315 overlooking the main pool and gardens beyond) was small but comfortable but the bathroom does require updating. Sliding doors to the wardrobe were quite stiff and make a racket when moving the doors. The safe in the wardrobe was not fixed to anything and so could (in theory) simply be lifted out of the room.
Not sure whether it was because of Ramadan but the Imam would start prayers at 3 in the morning which would wake you up if you slept with the patio doors open. This would only apply to rooms overlooking the gardens.
Clientèle were almost exclusively british with a small number of french.
The only annoying memory was having to arrive at the airport 3 hours before flying home. Not much to do there and a small bottle of water was over £2.....
All in all give us what we wanted, very warm weather, peaceful surroundings and decent food and service.
