“nice place, needs some major improvements”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2010

we stayed in this hotel in july and in august for a total of about 2 weeks - the staff is very friendly and helpful. The courtyards are nice to hang out and have breakfast. A couple of things to be aware of: in summer the rooms are extremely hot! we couldnot sleep until past 1am and woke up at about 7 or 8am due to the heat... they have no fans, or AC so the rooms get hot and stuffy. On our second stay they never gave us towels. Since we never left the hotel past 2pm our room was never cleaned, I would expect them at least to have the courtesy to ask if we wanted to wait in the courtyard while they cleaned, but no. We had a room with a shower and toilet, but the bathroom did not have a door or curtain, so if you are traveling with friends or a partner you would have to be very open with your body and use the toilet or shower without being afraid of being seen....
I think the hotel needs some major improvements - but despite this, I had a good experience staying here...

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, in a single room with its own bathroom. The showerhead was not attached to the wall the day I arrived, but the plumber came in and fixed it the next day. Very clean place, good breakfast included, and definitely good value for money. Quite a walk from the medina, but being a lone female traveller, I felt safer in the newer part of town at night that I think I would have felt staying in a hotel in the medina. I would advise to ask for a room that looks out on to one of the courtyards, as my room didnt and was quite dark.

The main fear was how to stay in the room without aircon while outside is +38. I should say, It’s possible. My friend and I stayed in a twin room with shower and toilet for 23 EUR per night. The room was large: one double bed and one standard. There was fan on the ceiling, but we didn’t use it. The temperature in the room was normal. The room and bedclothes were clean. It was funny that there were no door in the toilet – only fabric curtain.
The hotel is situated in the Gueliz (new town). And the way to the centre of the medina (Place Jemaa-El-Fna) actually is not very short. We walked there for 30 minutes. First time it was interesting, but repeating this way for several times was not so great.
But the good point is that the hotel is very close to the bus station (15 minutes walk). And this place is very quiet - no noise from the street or other rooms.
The breakfast was very nice – coffee (tea, cacao), juice, bread, jam, croissant, yoghurt.

What I liked the most was the price! Very good quality-price ratio.

P.S. After staying in Toulousain we had a desert tour, so we checked-out early morning and left our luggage in a special locked room on the ground floor for free. After two days we took it absolutely safe.

This place is in the new town - the Gueliz - but only about 10-15 minutes walking to the main centre of Djma Elfna or a few minutes by taxi.

Ive stayed here a number of times - its a budget hotel so dont expect everything to look shiny and new - it has always been clean but its oldish and it doesnt have the mod cons of air conditioning - but it does have ensuites and spacious rooms and big generally comfortable beds - its hot in summer and cold in the winter without air conditioning - but I love this location when Ive got a car with me as I get either off road parking in their parking area, though only a few parking spaces, or on the street - which makes it easier tthan being in the congestion of the city centre.
I have found this useful when weve wanted to drive off to Marjane to stock up and find a parking place fairly easy when getting back - and drive off the next morning.

Also the hotel has been built with 2 courtyards - the main one is lovely with a big banana tree to sit under if you choose to have breakfast outside at one of the tables in the main courtyard rather than taking it back to your room. Breakfast is also fairly good - basic but with coffee, juice, bread and jam, croissant and yoghurt its a better dea than for example the Hotel Islane where Ive also stayed.

The owner is french which seems to make the place easy going and friendlier with some service mentality present for your arrival or departure - and anything you might need them for such as arranging tickets and pickup for the nightly Chez Ali entertainment.

and the price is good. You can phone them direct to check availability and arrange bookings. but they are becoming more and more known and with the drive to increase tourist numbers to Marrakech theres more pressure on prices to rise.

At roughly $22 a night, you will get what you pay for here. The rooms are very clean and large and set around a open air courtyard. Don't expect anything fancy though, especially in the bathroom. The room was fine enough but the shower left a lot to be desired. There are no shower curtains and the plumbing looks like it was done by MacGuyver out of spare parts from the junkyard. The water came out from the showerhead in what I would describe as a strong drip. The service was also totally indifferent.. a simple smile would have gone a long way even.

All in all though, for the price the location is good and it will do the job. Free wifi is a bonus.

My family and I stayed at the Hotel Toulousain over the Thanksgiving holiday (27-30 Nov 2008) and couldn't have been happier with the hotel or Marrakech.
I am a U.S. Army officer stationed in Germany, and we decided to take a Ryanair flight to Morocco to experience the culture. We contacted the Toulousain based on the recommendation of an English couple we knew who had stayed there. The owners spoke fluent English and made all appropriate arrangements for transportation from the airport. Once on site, they greeted us and gave us an orientation of the city.
The rooms were excellent, and the location of the hotel could not be better. We were within two blocks of the Marrakech bus tour starting point, and less than five minutes (walking) from the train station and main shopping district.
We walked to the Jamma El Fna and enjoyed ourselves immensely with the snake charmers, storytellers and henna artists. We could not have felt safer. My nine-year-old daughter has platinum blonde hair, and was told dozens of times how beautiful she was.
The hotel also provides a top-drawer continental breakfast, with croissants that rival anything I've ever tried in Paris. A room with breakfast was about 25 Euros a night, an unbeatable value.
We have told all of our friends about this hotel and plan to return next spring.
For great pizza, try the Catanzaro Restaurant next door. We were absolutely delighted with the Toulousain and will return again soon.

We stayed in this hotel in March, 2007 for a week or so. The hotel is situated in a quiet area of Marrakech in Gueliz. The rooms are very clean, the staff are very friendly. We'll defenitely be coming back there again.
