“The perfect place to stay in Marrakech!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2009

I travel internationally for pleasure at least three times per year. Riad Amirat Al Jamal is as good a place as I've stayed anywhere (and I stay at some nice places!). The owner is American, which I think is a plus, because she is able to direct you to the best shopping/eating/cultural sites in Marrekech and there is no language barrier. Her Riad is beautiful, with a pool and wonderfully decorated rooms. Very clean. Very attentive staff! Breakfast on the roof terrace was a wonderful start to the day! I wouldn't hesitate to go back, and I'm sure we will!

My husband and I stayed in Chambre Margaret at Riad Amirat Al Jamal for 6 nights in March 2009. As always, I did ALOT of accommodation research before we came away. Because it was a last minute booking all of the top Trip Adviser riads were already booked up and this place was right down at number 20. Number 20! Unbelievable. If you are reading this review, your search is over, this is the only place you need to consider. I cannot imagine a more perfect place to stay in Marrakech and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in future.

The whole riad, including our room, was beautiful. The staff and Peggy the owner are lovely. Breakfast was surprisingly substantial, to the extent that on one day we didn't get around to eating lunch until about 5pm. The location of the riad within the medina is perfect and not at all difficult to find. If you get a taxi from the airport, as we did, it will drop you off at the top of a road called Trek El Koutoubia or Rue de la Koutoubia depending on which map you look at. The riad is a 1-2 min walk from here and very easy. The road is meant to be closed to cars, although it will still be busy with mopeds and cyclists (and probably some cars). You will see a small traffic island ahead of you with a fountain on it. Walk past the traffic island passing a large hotel on your left called Hotel Les Jardins de la Koutobia. The road bends around to the left and then carries straight on. Just after the bend, look out for an arch on your left with a few steps leading down into a deserted-looking alley way. Take this alley way (yes, really) to the T junction at the end, then turn right into what appears to be a dead end. There are three doors at the end of this turning, the one on your right is clearly identified as Riad Jamirat Al Jamal - just ring the bell up on the right of the door and someone will greet you.

My friend and I stayed in the Duplex room for 3 nights in March. This room suited us perfectly as plenty of room to dump our things and a two sinked large bathroom which was great for two girls. We had our own small roof terrace which again was great for a glass of wine and we were lucky enough to have a fridge and mini bar. We were lucky enough to look at the other rooms and I think if I was to go with my husband I would choose room 3 very large and romantic. The Riad itself was great very peaceful with lovely room terraces commanding fantastic views including the Atlas Mountains. As people have previously written you go through maze/rabbit warren type walkways to the Riad and can't believe what lies behind the door, but a spotless beautiful unusal place to stay and a fantastic welcome awaits you. We ate lunches and one dinner at the Riad which was brilliant. I would say the Chicken Tagine was the best of our stay and that included eating at Le Topsil one or Marrakech's best restaurant. Pretty pricey but very good and atmospheric. Peggy the American Owner and her staff of Fatima. Pal & Harmidau (apologies for miss spellings and pronounciation) were fantastic. Peggy is very knowledgeable and helpful we even phoned her during a crazy shopping trip to see if were paying over the odds & she was great. Great manicures and pedicures from Fatima on the roof terrace. The two guys again were helpful, discreet and respectful. They would even walk us to restaurants and meet us afterwards, kind of like a free walking taxi service.
Marrakech itself is crazy but a truly great experience. We found the further you went into the Souks the better price you could achieve and the less hassle you got. We were nervous to start with as so different to the UK, but soon felt safe and I must say we had great fun bartering. I would give the Marrakech Museum a miss absolutely nothing there of interest at all. I would definately return to Marrakech and do a day trip to the Mountains and I would stay in Al Jamal Amirat without a hesitation and would recommend to all.

My family and I stayed in this beautiful, and immaculate Riad. The rooms were beautiful, and clean. There were plenty of towels, hot water, and clean working toilets (something that is rare in this country). Peggy and her staff were terrific. Having Peggy helped so much. Being an American there was no language barrier, and she knows what we expect in our accomodations. The Riad is first class in everyway, from the rooms, to the food, to the staff. We loved our stay and would highly recommend this as a top choice!

Our 4 day stay at the Riad Amirat Al Jamal was wonderful. It was our fourth visit to Marrakech and this hotel was a wonderful find and probably the best experience we have had in the city (we've previously stayed in 5 star hotels in and out of the city centre but loved this one best of all).
Peggy and her staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and did everything to make our stay even more enjoyable.
We had a really nice split level room with mini terrace that was perfect for star-gazing and soaking up the atmosphere. The sun terraces were also lovely and relaxing. The decor throughout was traditional and varied and we'd happily have taken home many of the artefacts as souvenirs!
The location was equally ideal - just a few minutes walk from the Jemma El Fnaa and all its hustle and bustle and yet the riad managed to remain calm and tranquil.
I can't stress how great a place it is to stay - definitely a brilliant find in one of our favourite cities.

For my husband and me, the highlight of our 15 day tour of Morocco, arranged by Morocco Custom Travel, was the five nights we spent at the Riad Amirat al Jamal. We were told tha amirat means princess and that this 400- year-old mansion once belonged to an aristocratic family. We could well believe it, given the beautifully appointed rooms, decorated in traditional style, and the pampering by the friendly staff. We felt like royalty and would highly recommend it to couples looking for something other than the Hilton experience, without having to give up any five-star comforts...... all this and less than a minute away from the Djem el Fnaa ( the center of Marrakesh's Old City ) !!

This riad is very conveniently located on the edge of the Djemaa el-Fina sqaure. Peggy , the owner, and her staff are like a family group and treat their guest likewise. The room was large, clean and tastefully appointed. The common areas for guests are also very comfortable. The manager, Rachid, has an extensive background as a guide and was very helpful to us in planning excursions. Other guests advised us to make sure that we enjoyed dinner at the riad at least once. We did and were favorably impressed. After touring Morocco, we opted to return to the riad before returning home.
