“Perfect hideaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2013

Palais Calipau was the perfect place for us to discover Marrakech - beautiful room, nice building, great roof terrace and fantastic staff. Abdul was the perfect host, working day and night to make sure our stay was great.

Pros:
-Good location and generally quiet (the hotel is an oasis from the chaos outside!).
-Unique setting (typical Marrakech riad).
-Good air conditioning.
-Great bed.
-Attentive & accommodating staff (that was the highlight for me)
-Clean hotel.

Cons:
-Hand-held shower with no shower curtain (some rooms do have proper showers, so ask).
-Cheap bath products.
-Tattered rugs & bath towels (but they were clean nonetheless).
-Some renovations needed (like the rooftop), but the hotel is NOT in terrible condition.
-Only one TV channel (in French)
-Charge for fresh orange juice the second day (the first day we were not charged).
-Although English is spoken by most staff members, it could be better.

Room Tip: The hotel has two floors with rooms (some rooms are on the first and second floors with some that ar...

This is a beautiiful riad in the heart of the the Kasbah; we stayed a week, ate several times there in the evening and the food and staff were excellent; a walking distance from the main square and a perfect base for your visit to Marrakesh.

This was my second visit to palais calipau and if anything the experience was even better than the first trip. Marrakech can be an intimidating and bewidering city but the team make palais calipau a wonderful oasis of calm and comfort. The view from the roof terrace is one of my favourite views in the whole of Marrakech. Sitting, sipping cocktails and watching the sun go down is just wonderful. Loved the spa with the Hammam and we also ate the terrase . It was the best food we ate in Marrakech. they also organised a guide for us through the souk - and a fantastic trip into the Atlas mountains where we ate with a berber family in a tiny hilltop hamlet. The service is probably the best I have experienced in any hotel in the world. It is a very special place and I can't praise it too highly.

Room Tip: suite Marrakech

Me and my partner stayed here 6 may for 7 nights for her birthday.
On arriving in Marrakech and having to get are own taxi as are transfere was not waiting at the airport giving the address of our riad we were dropped on the other side of the city walls in the middle of nowhere( lucky we landed at 9:30 am) and not the middle of the night. It took us 2 hours to find the riad only to find out that it was a building site. No one had bothered to inform us that they had moved are hotel ( they have 3 in Marrakech ) after only for a young boy helping us did we actually find are new riad in very broken English he informed us he had somewhere else for us to stay not his fault bless him. He rang them and requested address all the time we had no idea where we were going. When we did finally arrive I have to admit the place was stunning and the person who opened the door very polite ( was later to be found out he was the waiter and pretty much everything else) the manager then greatest us with no apology which I found very rude as I had been in contact with him the day before we had landed I could of been told the correct address? We just did what us English do and carried on dumped are stuff and went out for the day. I must say it is very well located for walking to places and is easy to find once you know where it is. By are second day we had got over the initial shock and the place did not seem so stunning it is very clean but the service is very poor nowhere near 5* the waiter was friendly enough. We did not eat as the menu was so short it was hardly worth a whole bit of paper. The manager was rude. We also booked a trip to the mountains thought the riad and paid only to be charged again when we got out to the mountains by are guide at the end. We will be going back to Marrakech for sure but not here. In all ok 3* service poor commutation awful. Location very good. Management needs serious attention.

We were disappointed with the Riad. The room we were provided was at ground floor overlooking the reception area. It had no privacy. You could hear everything that was happening outside of the room because of a duct linking the bathroom to the reception desk area. When We complained, they said that there was no other available rooms. We had to cut our stay short and move to a different hotel. We are still trying to claim our money back.
