“Fantastic...everything!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2010

We'd just like to add our recommendation to the long list of good reviews about Riad Mur Akush. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and were well looked after by Rachid, Mohammed and Hussain through out. It's the little things that count, and the staff were more than happy to assist us - for example allowing us to safely store our luggage whilst we took a desert trip, calling Sahara Services and guiding them to the Riad to pick us up, helping us with our luggage and hailing a petit taxi when we left for Essaourira - the list could go on.

The Riad is located in the North West of the Medina. It's a great location as you have easy access to the new town, Majorelle Gardens and the bus and train stations whilst being within easy walking distance of the Souks and Djemma El Fna (10 minutes or so). It was refreshing walking back from the Square not to be harranged by traders but to simply take in day to day life within the Medina.

The riad itself is indeed an (pardon the cliche) 'oasis of calm'. The rooms are spacious, clean and all individually styled - we stayed in three due to our own late booking and were very happy with all of them. Breakfast was great with homemade pancakes, fruit, yoghurt etc, it was more than enough to keep us going throughout the day. In addition Rachid made us plenty of 'Berber Whisky' when we returned to the Riad in the afternoon or evenings.

We can wholeheartedly recommend Riad Mur Akush, we had a fantastic stay and would love to return at some stage.

We stayed at this riad for 3 nights. Our overall expression of the riad was very good. The riad is around a 15 minute walk away from the Jemma el fna square, we thought it would be a bit closer to the main square than it was. We had a meal at the riad one night and it was very well organised and we were impressed with the quality of the food. The service you get at this riad is very friendly but on one occasion a member of staff was a little bit rude to us, it was only once occasion and we just put it down to them having a bad day. We would recommend this riad to our friends.

Overall Mur Akush was a perfect 10 for friendliness, comfort, and location and Marrakech a perfect 10 for a fantastic short break (we'd have happily stayed the week!) Whilst Rachid is the gem of the riad, all the staff contrubute to make Mur Akush such a wonderful home from home.
We fell in love with Marrakesh and its wonderful people. I would recommend you just relax and enjoy the experience; yes you'll get a bit of hassle around the square and souks but nothing a firm, polite 'no thank you' wont resolve. Yes people will try and get a few coins out of you for almost anything but's all part of the experience! Take a horse & carriage around the medina (which is an experience in itself!!) and the tour bus around the old & new sites to get aquainted and then just jump in feet first and enjoy this beautiful city.
RIAD - From the moment I booked I felt looked after and after four wonderful days in Marrakech even more so! The owner Maria kindly & patiently replied to my many emails planning the trip to celebrate my partners birthday and arranged our airport transfers and a private trip to the Altas mountains, even recommending a late bar for our evening arrival. Our transfer to the riad seemed effortless and we were welcomed with mint tea & pastries before being shown to our room. We stayed in Yassin, which is just as it looks on the website - spacious & comfortable and beautifully decorated with Morrocan artefacts. The riad is beautifully decorated and designed for your comfort from the roof terraces to the fabulous salon. It has a lovely homely feeling with guests dotted around reading, listening to music, drinking tea...Enjoy breakfast wherever you wish and you're sure to enjoy this lovely morning feast before heading out to explore.
LOCATION - The location is perfect! Just 10 - 15 minutes to Jemma el Fna and 5-10 minutes to the northern Medina and with the Bab Doukkala mosque a landmark we were able to quickly orientate ourselves. We took a wrong turn one evening but there's always someone to show you the way back...usually for a few coins but that's part of the fun. Equally, a short stroll on we could reach the new town ourside the city walls, although we didn't find the need to venture out often, only to visit the supermarket for wine and we took the bus tour to get the full experience.
The riad is right next to the mosque so if you're a light sleeper you will no doubt hear morning prayer blasted from the loud speakers. That said, it hardly disturbed my sleep and my partner slept through it each night. We were woken by some inconsiderate noisy guests, another downside I guess of booking a small guesthouse but I would stay again in a heartbeat!
If you get the chance, go to the Atlas mountains. We visited the Berber villages at Imlil in the high Atlas with a local guide. The views are stunning and, just an hour or so away, it's a nice contrast to Marrakech.
EATING - I'd looked at an array of restaurants before we arrived only to find that we ate in the square every night, try Stall 81 - we literally tried everything on the menu and it was fabulous. Just pick a busy stall and enjoy, the food is made even more enjoyable by the hussle & bustle, smoke from the grills and wonderful smells. We loved Cafe Arabe for a pre-dinner or late night drink, great relaxed atmosphere and a short walk from the riad. By day we found ate at any one of the many restaurants around the medina - Toubkal was very good overlooking Jemma el Fna.
Enjoy your visit to Marrakesh....I'm already planning my next visit with some girlfriends ;0))

When my mother and I were planning our trip to Marrakech, we saw photos of Riad mur akush, and fell in love with it. It was everything we expected from the moment we were greeted with mint tea and pastries until the time we left. We came to think of the riad as a home away from home while we were in a city that was very foreign to us. The accomodations were lovely, but it was really the riad's staff that made it such a special experience. Rachid was the standout -- looking out for us (my mother is older woman) and helping us negotiate the city and its souks. When my mother lost her wallet, he pulled the whole staff together to find it, and we were so grateful. Besides the very charming Rachid, Mohamad and Zorah were also outstanding. Zorah was an exceptional cook of traditional Moroccan food -- as a matter of fact, the best food we had in Marrakech was right at the riad. I cannot recommend Riad mur akish highly enough, and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

This Riad was the perfect place to stay in Marrakech. As soon as you walk through the door you we were greated by a wonderful tranquil place. Its truely beautiful with its court yard and roof top terraces. The rooms were very comfortable and all the staff are so friendly and will go out of their way to help you and make your stay as comfortable as possible. I will highly recommend this Riad to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in this city. Was very sad to leave at the end of stay. If your looking for somewhere to escape the hustle of this amazing city then this is definatly the place to stay. Thank you for making our holiday so perfect. Will definatly be back, Jessica and Jody

We stayed 3 nights at this Riad. Rachid was very welcoming and helpful. He organised a trip for us to the beautiful Dades valley and Zagora (camel ride to a tent hotel in the desert), with a brilliant driver and guide Hamoud, who became a good friend.
All our experiences in Morrocco were wonderful, we will never forget it.
I recommend Riad Mur Akush to make your holiday really special.
