“Beautiful place with a lovely hostess”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Really great place to stay! The riad has been beautifully restored with lots of old elements. The roofterras shows a great view of Meknes. We were welcomed wonderfully by the hostess as we where stuck and lost in the afternoon traffic of Meknes. She same to pick us up, had a wonderful meal on the terras and guided us to the right places (even joined us). I would highly recommend this lovely place!

My husband and I stayed in January. Hossein the manager is a wonderful host: he provided excellent directions, including hand drawn maps and led the kitchen in providing a spectacular dinner. It is definitely worth eating in at least one night--we were served two different soups (and since it was actually cold while we were there, these soups were wonderful--one was rich pureed peas with herbs), two different warm salads and then two different tagines. One was sweet lamb with onions and prunes, the other chicken with olives and preserved lemons. We ate these two tagines over an over while in Morocco--but honestly these were the best by far. The lamb was (I think) very young, chops, and so tender but still had the distinct lamb flavor--not cooked out or overwhelmed by the other ingredients. Similarly, the flavors in the chicken tagine were distinct and bright. YUM. But plan ahead and don't eat a big lunch, because each course was quite large, this isn't a tasting menu!

The room we stayed in was comfortable, there was a small seating area right outside, so we felt like we had space to sit and plan. The whole Riad is amazingly intact, with beautiful original tile and woodwork. We also spent a little time on the roof, which has great views of the Bab Berdieyinne Mosque minaret and the rooftops of the medina.

Bab Monsour gates are very pretty and a good landmark/parking area--you will need help finding the Riad the first time, but then it is easy to retrace your steps to get back and forth after that.

Sometimes you'll find a real special spot with great people! Riad Amazigh is one of those places. The first night Fatima picked us up and brought us to her raid. The next days she and her lovely assistants took great care of us. Fatima is a thoughtful host and puts a lot of effort in taking care of her guests. That in combination with the nice rooms made this a wonderful stay. The riad is on a good location in the medina and after the first time easy to find. Don't miss the rooftop breakfast and dinners. If I go back to Meknes I would definitely go back to Amazigh.

The thing that made our stay here so easy and relaxing was Fatima and her staff. The hospitality shown by Fatima is what sets her Riad apart from others. The rooms were nice and functional and the dinners were definitely worth trying

We stay first 2 days here on our 21 days Moroccan trip in March. The location of the riad is perfect, right in the middle of the medina; just a few minutes walk to the square and the Royal Palace. Owner Fatima, manager Hossein and the rest of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Hossein should be a Star Chef, his Moroccan salad and lemon chicken tagine were the best we tried in Morocco; great presentation, exceptional tasty. I think part of the secret was the fresh and quality ingredients. I highly recommend this place and take the advantage of Hussein’s great cooking.

This was our first trip to non-Western countries, and was made much more comfortable by our choice of Riad Amazigh. Our cab was met at the gate to the medina by a man who guided us to the house through the maze that is the medina. Getting to and from the home through the streets of the medina was an experience in itself. The host, Hossain, is a man of many languages and is extremely helpful and sensitive, aside from being a wonderful chef and host. The meals were outstanding; there really is no need to eat elsewhere, and are accompanied by a description of each dish as it is presented. One of the highlights for us was the communal meals where we met other travelers. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and are in the old Moroccan building, so there is none of the generic hotel, could be anywhere, feel. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Morocco, and this Riad was a large part of the reason.

We spent a night there and really enjoyed it. Fatima, Hossein and the rest of the staff were lovely, the riad's decoration is traditional with a twist and so is the food which is amazing. Hossein is doing a nouvelle cuisine's version of Moroccan food which is wonderful. Françoise and Mauro
