“a must-see”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Meknes is also known as “Moroccan Versailles” a city in Spanish-Moorish style, surrounded by high walls with great doors, where the harmonious blending of the Islamic and European styles of the 17th century Maghreb are still evident today The city was founded by Moulay Ismail in the 17th Century.

This square is a must-see in the city, surrounded of beautiful typical buildings, including the "Bab Mansour" and very close to the bazar/medina.

The´re s alot of hawkers in the area as well.

“Exciting!”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

I really liked that square, there are a lot of things to see, buy, drink and eat. Of course it is not as big as in Marrakech but still very awesome- maybe even because of that fact. It's more relaxed and people try not to sell something too aggressively. During the day this square is almost empty, there are only some restaurant with waiters trying to get you into their place- trust me, these places are really bad! Go and visit the big mansour gate besides and go for a walk into the medina.

“spending time in the evening”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

You can spend a lot of time on this place in the evening. It starts some time before sundown and unlike many other places in Morocco the action continues until much later and doesn't end at 9pm. There are snake charmers, story tellers, dancers, musicians and other folks there every evening and you can spend a lot of time here. Many cheap restaurants with ok (but probably pre-cooked) food are on the place and some cafés surround it. The view from those cafés down to the place is pleasant and a bit more clam than being on the place itself.

“Variety of views”

Very interesting square, with many shops, cafes, and restaurants around the edge. An ideal spot to sit sipping mint tea, or having freshly squeezed orange juice, whilst people watching.

“Great place to sit and have coffee”
Reviewed 4 January 2014 via mobile

Large open area with a number of shops. It is right adjoining the Medina. If you plan to visit the Medina it is must see as well. Right across from bab mansour. You can also find other entertainers.
