Ryad Bab Berdaine
Ranked #11 of 43 Meknes B&B and Inns
Reviewed 27 December 2013

Period of Stay: 12th Dec - 13th Dec 2013 (1 night)
Cost: 28 Euros (315 Dirhams)(including taxes - 3 Euro for city tax - via Booking.com) for Soleil Twin Room

+ points:
(1) Comfortable bed, pillows and the room and toilet were very clean.

(2) Wifi was fast and reliable.

- points:
(1) Location: the taxi driver didn't know the place exactly though you can reach from Bab Berdaine. Keep walking straight from Bab Berdaine and through the archway further down the road until you see a signage for the riad then turn right. It is not too difficult to find. It takes about 15 minutes though to walk to the main square (Place El Hedim) and the major attractions around it.

(2) Disco music at 6am - seriously?

(3) incompetent, money-minded boss - no breakfast (even a 6 Euro hostel and all the other accommodation I had stayed in for similar price provided breakfast); all the other accommodation that I had stayed in previously used the rate of 1 Euro = 11 Dirhams, which is very standard in almost all the accommodation I use, but he uses the most updated rate of 11.2 Euros and then when I paid him he had no change and he looked like he was in dazed state and was trying to ask the helper for some change. After waiting for about 10 minutes and he was still walking around in a daze, I gave up and left.

He also couldn't tell me what company or the cost of the local bus going to Chefchaouen (booth number 6 at the Gare Routiere, 50 Dirhams) though he could tell me that a bus leaves at noon (left at almost 1230 though and reached at about 5pm but they will drop you off somewhere outside and get you a grand taxi with others (no additional charge) to get there).

While he did provide a useful map and tells you how to get to the main square and highlighted some of the attractions, one of those he highlighted was terrible - Prison de Kara near the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail - a total waste of time and money!

My wife and I stayed at the Riad in May of 2013. The owner and his staff were friendly and generous. We arrived at the Riad late our first night, and they were kind enough to prepare us a tea and delicious supper at 11:00pm. The room was comfortable, with gigantic divan couches. The bathroom was clean and spacious, though the tub and shower did not have a shower curtain. The rooftop terrace was gorgeous and fun. The owner had a lovely, well-tended garden, complete with two chameleons to try and find amongst the greenery.

The owner and staff were very kind with us, gave us great freedom around the place, and did some really nice favors for us. We ate breakfast at the Riad every morning, which was delicious. They also let us use the kitchen for the days we wanted to eat food from the market. A fine stay!

The Riad is right in the ancient medina, which was convenient for shopping, markets, and historic sites. It proved to be a little difficult to find after dark, but there are signs posted at major medina intersections and the locals were happy to point the way.

The place is nice. Cool rooftop and placed in a nice chill medina. The styling could be better. But the Ryad is beautiful. Resent price.
The host was soooo helpful. Real cool.
They entry to the medina is a bit not hard to find. Just do around the wall intill the bridge. On the opposite site is the entry.

My friends and I had a really nice stay in Ryad bab berdaine. The owner is very friendly and helpful. All of us enjoyed the experience in the Ryad. We should have stayed longer.

Really nice ryad, good atmosphere. The owner made everything to make us feel confortable.
We rented bykes directly from the ryad. Rooms are spacious and clean. We were supposed to stay 2 nights in Meknes but ended up staying 4. Great place to stay

I stayed here for two nights and it was wonderful! Beautiful Riad with a roof terrace and Moroccan style rooms. Also, very clean, but most of all, the owner is so hospitable! He sent us an email before we arrived with directions (could be difficult to find otherwise), knew who we were when we arrived and made us tea and told us all about the area and gave us a map. We also didn't have enough cash when it came time to pay (can't use a credit card) but he lent me a bike and took me on a bike ride to the atm machine.
We couldn't get any hot water while we were here but I have no doubt the owner would have helped us with it if wed just asked him.
