Ryad Bahia is an old family home in the middle of the souk. The doorway gives no hint of the lovely place inside. There is a large inner courtyard where guests and family members mingled. Our room was upstairs and quite large with typical Moroccon decor. Meals were served in the courtyard and were delicious and reasonable. Staff was helpful and gracious.

We stayed 3 nights here and, for the price, found it to be very comfortable. While not luxurious, the riad has been renovated to maintain its traditional aspects and is most attractive. Bouchra and her family are friendly, welcoming and ready to help at all times. The breakfasts were plentiful and good, and we also enjoyed the dinner we ate there. Although they don't serve alcohol, we were able to bring our own bottle of the passable Moroccan wine.
Perhaps a bit more attention to maintenance is required - we had to move rooms as the lock on our first ceased to function, but we were glad to move to a better one in the new section where the shower attachment actually managed to do so.
A good base to explore this wonderful city.

Room Tip: A "mini-suite" in the newer section.

We had a pretty twin room, which had a double and single bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We did eat in the riad one night as they have a restaurant. The food was nice but at 390 dirhams for two people it was much more expensive than eating other places in the medina and was nice but not above average to justify the extra cost.

We stayed two nights in Riad Bahia and loved it - for many reasons but largely because of the staff - they are the heart and sould of the hotel. They could not have done more to make us feel at home. As they said: 'Chez nous vous etes chez vous' (With us you are at home) and it really felt like that. These are people who put a lot of time and effort to make everything look as if it should be so - I know how much effort 'effortless' actually takes and Riad Bahia achieves it. The attention to detail is also worth mentioning - rooms are beautifully appointed and a joy to stay in. The central courtyard is a haven of peace after a busy day in the medina. We'll return to Meknes and this is my absolute first choice to stay.

Room Tip: Worth paying a little more for a larger room, though the smaller rooms are exceptional value.
