“Wonderful Stay”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

We stayed at this riad on our first night in Morocco and had a wonderful stay. The hotel was clean, modern and has the kindest people working here. There is a beautiful roofdeck and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend staying here!!!!!!!

My son fell in love with Riad al Maati - that’s why he brought me there. It was one of the most beautiful places I have been to. I was able to relax, enjoy the sun and didn’t feel the stress I used to know when travelling.

Loved my holiday.

Thank you to Fahrid and Laurance for your generosity and hospitality.

Room Tip: step-free room on the ground floor and direct access to the patio

Even though we prefer to discover new places, we came back to Riad al Maati 1 year after our trip through Morocco. Now, we are already thinking about our third trip there.

Design: Riad al Maati is the perfect place for people who care for a classy authentic ambience furnished with distinct taste and without over-the-top kitsch. The rooms are just amazing, with local natural soaps and the most stylish bathtubs.

Comfort: We had amazing food and massages there. We enjoyed the fact that they nobody tried to sell us anything.

City: Rabat gives us an authentic Moroccan experience with great restaurants, impressive historic attractions and plenty of markets – nothing is designed for tourists (as opposed to Fes, Agadir, Marrakesh, etc.) . People don’t try to rip tourist off - prices at the markets are one third of the Marrakesh prices and people are very agreeable

Hosts: We have never experiences hosts as friendly as Farid and Laurence. They are warm-hearted and helped us organize our entire stay providing us with plenty of “local insights”. Their smiles were contagious :-)

My wife, daughter and I all enjoyed our stay here for a couple nights last week. The beds were low to the floor, but they were extremely comfortable. The bathroom and shower were very unconventional as compared to other hotels where I stayed... The bathroom door was a slider and the separating wall was actually made of fogged glass, so privacy was somewhat compromised. The shower was interesting in that it had 3 different locations from where to spray the water.

The room layout was a bit tight since we each had large suitcases and carry-on luggage. That required some creativity in where we positioned ourselves and our belongings when we were not sleeping. Be aware that the Muslim prayers are broadcast at around 6 o'clock every morning which was annoying for me because I really wanted to wake up closer to 7 or 8. The breakfast was simply delicious - they had a large variety of breads, fruits, yogurts as well as some tasty Moroccan treats. Everyone at the Riad was very hospitable and did whatever they could to make us feel very welcomed. It truly is a peaceful and beautiful oasis in the old medina.

I stayed in Rabat for one night with two of my friends. We booked a room that could actually fit four people, it was a large room (loft like) and spacious enough for the three of us. Upon booking the room, I received a welcome email with directions to the Riad which was helpful when we arrived in Rabat. It was easy to reach to though located in the old Medina. The place has a beautifully landscaped courtyard and nicely fitted interiors; simple and clean lines. Soft music was playing in the court lounge, and the place smelled very fresh and nice - felt like being in a spa basically! Staff were friendly and offered great advice on what's best to do in our one day stay. I'd definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it to others...

Without a shadow of a doubt, Riad el Maati was our favorite place to stay in the last ten years or so of traveling overseas. At first we were somewhat reluctant to combine this business trip by staying in the medina but what a relaxing oasis this place is at the end of the day.

Our taxi brought us from the train station to the Bab Challah gate and here we were met by Abdellah who directed us to the hotel. Inside the medina, we took a few lefts and rights and it was easy to navigate.

Once inside the Riad el Maati, we were treated to a kind of hospitality that you simply can't find at larger places. Don't get me wrong, we loved staying at the Sofitel in Rabat on our last trip but this is just a different experience and we enjoyed every minute of it from the combination of French and Moroccan cooking to talking with friendly owners, Laurence and Farhid.

We can entirely understand why casual travelers will select the Riad el Maati and we will certainly do so when vacationing in Morocco. But business travelers shouldn't overlook it either because as we found out, it is perfect for that type of travel. Meeting ran late? No problem. They found a way to let us eat later. Getting up before their breakfast hours? No worries at all as they creatively found a way to prepare breakfast and all we had to do was go into the kitchen and get it!

Being in the medina was also great when we had a few minutes to spare exploring this historic area. We even did an impromptu meeting with colleagues and the owners kindly gave us a space at no charge and also prepared coffee and tea for our guests. They arrived at the gate and I guided them the five minutes or so walk to the gate.

Perhaps the best part about staying here as a business traveler is that you experience a kind of peace here even during the stress of a busy day of 12-14 hours. To come back, relax with dinner and just enjoy the tranquility of the place is well worth the incredibly reasonable rates compared to the big hotels in Rabat.

Room Tip: We loved our room on the third floor looking into the courtyard. Just one floor up is the very nice...

First Riad we ever stayed in and when we walked through the Medina we weren't sure where we were headed. Once the doors opened we were in heaven. The place is beautiful, decorated in such good taste and the owners Laurence and Farhid are very welcoming. They are very pleasant and friendly. The hospitality was the best we have had the entire trip and we will certainly return.
The only thing was the distance to the Muhazin as i couldnt fall asleep after.
