Dar Nakhla Naciria

This riad was so thoughtful, and our hosts were very helpful. The place is beautiful and clean, with a fabulous view of the city from the rooftop deck. We were greeted with some mint tea and Sue walked us around the medina so we could find our way back. Later, Sue walked us to a great restaurant and even helped us order before heading back. She left her number with the waiter in case we needed her to come get us. It was a wonderful welcoming place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone!

We have been 3 times to Tangier and this was by far the best place we stayed in. A really homely feel with great new ensuite rooms and a fantastic terrace in this lovely little riad. But what was so refreshing and what really made the difference ( so rare these days...) were Sue and Said's hospitality and generosity. From giving us a room with a bigger bed for my pregnant partner to carrying our bags to the main square to catch the taxi back. They really cared about making our stay the best it could be. Thank you !!

This was our first visit to Morocco and we came by ferry from Spain. Said greeted us at the dock and it was a nice walk up the hill into the Medina. The guesthouse has a great location and you feel like you are staying in the home of a good friend. We agree with all the positives of all the previous reviewers. Sue, the Australian owner, is a delight and we spent hours talking with her on the roof terrace. The roof terrace is beautiful and the breakfast divine. Both Sue and Said went out of their way to show us around and give us recommendations. Said took us to a great place for lunch. As noted the rooms are a little small and the bed a little hard but there is a nice common area outside of the rooms where you can relax. There are a lot of nice little touches that make you feel cared for. As was mentioned the guesthouse is new and we wish nothing but the best for them and hope to visit again. We really enjoyed talking to Sue about traveling and our different travel styles. We appreciated the reminder to slow down and the advice to hang out in a cafe multiple times so they get to know you. If you want to stay in a traditional home and feel what it would be like to live in Morocco, stay here. Thanks Sue and Said!

In the middle of Medina, beautifully decorated and with a superb breakfast. What else do you need? We got some tangerines and moroccan pastries as a welcome gesture and seriously, that made our day! Highly recommended!

We had a great time staying in this original little riad. The location could not be better. Right in the middle of the souk. The rooms were clean and although a little small there was sufficient room for my wife and I and two travelling bags. We had a ensuite which had recently been installed so all was new.

The view from where you can have breakfast, on the rooftop garden was excellent. Overlooking Tangier.

Sue, the Australian owner was great. She told us where to shop, drink and eat and also gave us a quick tour of the immediate area. She even went shopping with my wife.

There is a great coffee shop within five minutes walk and you can sit in the square and watch the daily activities of the local people. We have been to Morrocco several times and Tangiers can be a little daunting at first when you step off the ferry from Spain but once you get away from the Port, all is good.

Breakfast was the original Morroccan breakfast with good strong coffee or tea.

If you want to experience staying in a traditional Morrocan riad in Tangiers and not just a hotel room that can be found in any city in the world. Stay here.

It can be a little hard to find but if you go the right way it is less than 10 minutes walk from the Ferry. Ring Sue she will give you clear directions.

Good Value and you will enjoy Sue's hospitality.

On a recent visit to Tangier we decided to stay, for just one night, in this riad, despite the negative review of the downstairs room. We just made sure to book something upstairs and went on the basis of the other, very positive reviews.
On the day in question we happened to have the place to ourselves so we got to have a nose around and check out all of the rooms - I would have to say that if we had found ourselves in the downstairs room we would have been completely satisfied - it is cute and charming, as is the whole house. Down to earth in feel but boasting plenty of the old world elegance you would expect in a riad, Sue has respected the mixed history of the building (an originally Jewish home from the early 20th century, I believe) rather than recreate some tacky Arabian dream (nightmare).
As for Sue and Said, our hosts, I don't have enough praise. They are reasonably new at this and I hope time doesn't drain them of their enthusiasm, because it's infectious. Sue seems to be having a love affair with Tangier and that makes her the perfect person to sit and chat about it with.
On the day of our departure, we had time to kill before our night train and not only did Sue hang on to our bags for us, which in fairness you would expect, but she made coffee and most importantly of all, time to be sociable with us long after we had checked out.
Said took time out of his own day to show us the tomb of Ibn Battuta and at every point in our stay was keen to see we had everything we needed.
Exceptional.

Dar Nakhla is a newly opened guesthouse conveniently located just off the main street that links the Grand and Petit Socco.
Sue and Saiid were friendly and helpful in every way, from the moment we phoned them to help us with directions, to giving us recommendations for restaurants and shopping.
We stayed in numerous riads during our 2 week stay in Morocco and found Dar Nakhla to be luminous, open, clean and airy in comparison.
The deco is delightful and yes, you will find the beds firm (but comfortable) by western standards, but we found this to be the general norm in Morocco. We slept on much harder ones elsewhere!!
Breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace that afforded an amazing view over the medina. Included was a delicious selection of breads, pastries, fresh fruit, juice and tea/coffee.
A memorable stay in a charming riad with equally charming hosts. We wouldn't hesitate to come back again. Thanks Sue and Saiid!
