“Good views of Tangier”
Reviewed 16 June 2013 via mobile

After walking up through Medina. The Kasbah / casbah was quiet. No snake charmers were there. I asked the locals who said snake charmers there at 10.00am. Good views of Tangier from the top. I never used a guide nor a map. In Medina just keep going up hill and to get out just keep going down hill.

“Nothing to See”
Reviewed 2 June 2013

It's wholly a residential area with lots of small, easy to get lost in streets. We went just to be able to say that we've been to the Casbah of Tangier. Go for the sake of going, don't expect anything.

“Casbah: exotic, compelling, proper hint of foreboding, energizing”
Reviewed 23 May 2013

Mint tea in the streets is amazingly delicious on a hot August afternoon, shish kebobs on the corner to die either for or from, and beating off kids who energetically negotiate offers at age nine in an impressive multiplicity of languages quickly learned in the university of life, women walking side by side in a row of five uniformly and precisely covering their faces at a point when a man gets within range and that's only on the short walk from the ferry to gain access to the Casbah itself.

Want a great deal on a rug? Don't want a great deal on a rug? Makes no difference. You'll be treated the same in either case. The Casbah is sensual, atmospheric and alive beyond imagination. Something about it is timeless and will remain so until its functionality no longer is sensible. Walls of silk, tents and corridors beckoning with amazing deals if you know how to negotiate a little.

You can buy a truckload of souveniers here for the price of one Irish Baleek teacup that probably would have broken before you got it home. Affordable saffron in an aromatic ocean of cheap overall spices, silks, metallic mementos, etc. The Casbah is fun, stimulating and oh yes, potentially a little more dangerous as the sun fades from the sky.

“African market”

Interesting local market, definitely the highlight of Tangier. Narrow and winding, watch your purses and wallets.

“Worth a visit if you are there, but not worth the hype”
Reviewed 22 April 2013

The museum was worth a visit especially the garden area. We had a great petit taxi journey to the Kasbah. The negative experience here was a chap who approached us as soon as we got out the taxi trying to get us to follow him on his 'tour' Whilst this was okay in banter as I was totally ignoring him. He actually lied blatantly in saying where we were heading was closed. Moral here is to do your own thing and be slightly prepared to be forthright and have a map with you as well.
