“Best boutique hotel in Tangier!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2010

This beautifully restored and furnished boutique hotel is in a great location on the edge of the medina. It has been featured in several travel magazines. Farida, the owner, was very helpful and shared her local knowledge of Tangier with us including the way to the best local seafood restaurant. We voted the breakfast here, taken on the rooftop terrace overlooking the sea, as the best in Morocco! Freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh croissants, delicious omelette and freshly brewed coffee made a great start to the day!

Quiet, stylish, relaxed and airy this is as nice a guesthouse for the money as I have stayed in anywhere. I had planned to come from the UK via Gib and the Tarifa fast ferry which takes you into the old harbour in the centre of town and then on again via train to Alisa due to Tangers reputation as a seedy harbour city. Instead I stayed my first night there and it was the perfect introduction to Morocco and my favourite place in a tour that went to Rabat, Fes and Chefchouan. All rooms have real character. Lovely roof terrace and dinner I had on last night was the best food I ate in Morocco.
Very nice place this.

I booked our stay at the hotel for the first 2 nights of our 9 night stay in Tangier. We traveled with short notice so we weren't able to plan ahead and get a hotel for 9 days straight. We ended up staying in 6 different rooms, in 3 different hotels over the 9 nights. Farida was so wonderful and let us keep our large suitcases in her office, and go to other hotels with just a small overnight bag. I even asked her to have laundry/ironing done for me and she obliged with a smile on her face. I wasn't even staying at the hotel that night! The terrace has breathtaking views and the breakfast is very yummy :) Their wireless internet is GREAT. La Tangerina is a bright, clean, historic guest house that's full of charm; in the house itself and in the people who care for you during your stay.

All the positive reviews of this place are well deserved. We stayed in Room 10, which has a private patio, and also opens directly onto the rooftop terrace where breakfast and afternoon tea is served. The hotel is beautiful - the only downside is that to reach the hotel, you must walk up a road, that at night is filled with groups of men that appear somewhat threatening. I wont ding the hotel for this, because a cab ride is an easy way to avoid any potential unpleasantness. Tangier is gritty, dangerous, but a great way to dip your toe in a 3rd world country. I admit, there were a few times where I was concerned for the safety of my wife and myself, but keeping your wits about you and a stronghold on your wallet and valuables goes a long way.

A wonderful stay at a lovely, quiet, clean small hotel. Stayed in room 8 (small room with steep steps to a small bed loft and lovely views of the sea and across to Spain) and room 10 (larger room on the terrace roof, with private balcony and views of water and of city, though some city noise). The service was excellent as were the breakfats served on the terrace, the one dinner at the hotel a small feast. Stay in a room with a view, though more expensive defintely worth it. The location is next to the seawall on a quiet street at the very top of the medina. Easy access and walk to the city center. Good restaurants nearby. Try the Cafe Kasbah for good, clean basic food. Seemed quite safe at night. Not cheap -- 120-160 Euros, but worth the price. Even rebuilt period radios in each room playing diffenrent music at various times of day and night. Tangier is a funky port town, easy to walk around. Try the nearby Cinema Rif cafe for a coffee or tea, or a movie at night, and take a taxi out to Cap Spartel, a lovely old lighhouse. This is a wonderful introduction to Morocco with its Arab/European ambience, and if not in the country before I would make this the first stop.

La Tangerina is the perfect riad to stay in right in the kasbah, within walking distance to the medina and yet very peaceful and quiet. The roof terrace offers great views of the city and the ocean and the hotel serves tea and pastries in the afternoon. Breakfast was excellent with freshly made eggs and whole made breads and treats. Beautifully presented as well. All of the staff were helpful and the owners will help you with anything you might need. They went out of their way to assist us. The rooms are all different and offer a flavor of the local area. We look forward to going back and would not even look for a another place to stay. Robert and Michele

We stayed one night at La Tangerina in our travels between Spain and Fez. The hotel is actually located quite close to the port and bus station, but an uninitiated traveler would probably do better taking a cab since the walk is uphill and complicated.

Some of the rooms at La Tangerina are small and oddly shaped. That said, they are all well-decorated and have a really cool "vibe" with smooth jazz playing in the public areas. The rooftop patios have amazing views of the city and of the ocean.

The staff was extremely helpful -- they even sent an employee to purchase bus tickets for us, since the train wasn't running the next day. The meals were delicious and traditionally Moroccan. Meals were served in a comfortable dining room that invited friendly conversation with the other guests, who were traveling from all over the world.

In summary, La Tangerina gets it right. They have a beautiful, comfortable hotel, and the management exudes a sense of warmth and hospitality.
