There are now many good hotels min Dar-Es-Salaam, Slipway is not one of them. Overpriced and the only thing going for it is the location, however there are other hotels of similar price and better quality nearby

We are trying to get some more specific information from the writer of this review regarding his experience at Hotel Slipway. It may help us address certain issues.

While the perception of quality is based on an individual's judgement and personal experience and hence cannot be challenged pricing is very measurable.

The fact is that there is no hotel in the vicinity that has better rates than Hotel Slipway.

We spent 3 nights at Slipway. The staff were amazing, the room was clean. The hotel is situated right at the waterfront area with shopping, taxis, tuk-tuks all available. The breakfast was super. We would stay here again without hesitation. There were quite a few people staying in this hotel as they were attending a wedding in Dar. The staff were so helpful, giving all sorts of information and helping with anything they could.

Good food, good service, nice people and a pleasant environment on the Indian Ocean. Cost is reasonable. I've been there three times this year and I'm going again in September. I stayed there because we were heading to(from) Zanzibar. The hotel is inside of shopping complex building where you can find a supermarket, an money exchange, small restaurants (bit overpriced though), souvenir shops, etc. The complex is near by the sea-shore, so you can even enjoy watching a sunset.
It is very convenient because you do not have to go outside to buy and/or eat.
Rooms are ok, all air-conditioned and all amenities are there. They seemed to have different types, but most of rooms have cooking facilities and a fridge, like an apartment room.
Since the building is bit complex and the number of staff is not many, the service is delayed (or forgotten) in a few times. Well, it is common in most African countries, so I cannot complain.
Conclusion: if it is your first time for Tanzania and you just stay in a convenient environment for transit to other places, this is your place where you can have most of basic stuff without going out.
(Info for taxi: From the airport, it costs 50,000 Tsh. From the ferry port, it costs 30,000 Tsh.)

My wife and I stayed here for the weekend recently, on our way to a flight back to Europe. Often when we stay in Dar the choice seems to be between an overpriced cheap hotel and a really overpriced expensive one. This place seems to be somewhere in between. The location is great, out on the Peninsula, and the prices are in the realm of "reasonable", especially when you consider that the hotel has a pool and a good restaurant. The drawback is that the place is busy, especially at the weekend, and the cheaper rooms seem to be the noisier ones.
We were happy with our choice, though and will certainly stay again

Nightmare taxi ride through Dar es Salaam at rush hour, with roads being repaired, I was ready to expect the worst. It was thrilling to be welcomed, shown to our room and told we could ask for help at any time. The room was great, with the welcoming relief of air-conditioning and everything you could expect of a class hotel. But, the most amazing of all was the restaurant "The Terrace". Fabulous 6 course Italian dinner in a courtyard setting with pool. Totally amazing.

We stayed here overnight on route to safari park. Hotel was clean and well run with friendly staff.
Facilities, in hotel shops and local restaurants all easily accessible and reasonably priced, would recommend Waterfront restaurant for an evening meal
Only down side is horrendous traffic in Dar, short journey from airport can take up to 3 hours !
