It's a budget pad that still has a balcony, hot water, and a meek breakfast...for Dar is say you won't find better. They could do with dropping the prices a little, but as a recently they have been repairing and painting so it looks as if some $ is going to spruce it up. Would be nice if people had acess to the rooftop for city top gazing.

The hotel is certainly in the budget category. Rooms are basic but ageing. A new coat of paint would certainly help. It is conveniently located close to good value BBQ restaurants and only a short walk to the downtown centre, ferry terminals, fish market etc. However, having stayed at both, in my viewSafari Inn around the corner is better quality for the same price.

Wasn't shown room by receptionist, and I can see why...she would have been too embarrassed to ask the 35,000 shillings for what they were offering. Dirty beds. Had to sleep in sleeping bags. Even dirtier bathroom. Cracked toilet seats, broken doors...everything looked half finished. Literally the worse place I've stayed in (after backpacking Asia, South America and Africa). We have now paid the extra and stayed at a nicer hotel...well worth the money in dar es salaam! Don't say I didn't warn you......

Room Tip: Do not stay here

As our flight was leaving near midnight and didn't want to carry luggage around all day we used the room to store belongings. Woman at reception was unfriendly. We thought twice about asking to see the Manager to discuss her attitude but due to the heat we couldn't be bothered. The room was on the 5th floor and she didn't even bother to tell us there was an elevator. Later we found the elevator, using it once was enough - tiny, humid and covered in grafitti it was obvious people have spent quite a while in there (trapped).

During the hottest part of the day the cleaners were sleeping in the stairwell.

The room was fine with a balcony and quite spacious. The double room with private bathroom cost 35 Euro. Between the Safari Inn and this place I'd chose Econolodge just because the rooms are more spacious and have balconies.

We arrived late in Dar at the bus station a little terrified from the stories we had heard so were happy to arrive at Econo where we got a simple room with twin beds and a fan. Simple room with a bathroom but we slept well and was only a short walk from shops and the ferry terminal as we were heading to Zanzibar. Will definitely stay here on the way back. Would recommend to anyone needing an overnight stay somewhere that is in a good location in the city and feels safe too.

Econolodge is hidden away in a high rise building in the centre of Dar es Salaam. The room prices are very reasonable (35000 Tzs for a double fan room, 45000 Tzs for a double ac room). I would recommend taking the AC room if you're staying for any longer than 1 night as while a fan was okay for one night, it wouldn't have been great for a longer period of time. We stayed for 2 nights at the start of our trip and 1 night at the end of our trip. All the rooms have a bolt which you can put your own padlock on as well as a key to lock the door so this adds to the security of the hotel. The hotel itself has it's own security guards and so we always felt secure in Econo Lodge. The breakfast is extremely basic - probably the worst we had in Tanzania but given the low prices, we weren't expecting anything. The rooms are fairly clean and the hotel provides a towel. The bathroom was a bit grotty but the shower always had hot water. The room was a good sized with lots of floor space. Overall we wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else in Dar.

I stayed here for a night before a flight. The room was very big and it was very clean. There was also a small balcony which was nice. The bathroom was big and there was hot water.
The staff were very nice and the owner was an absolute gentleman.
The hotel felt very safe and secure and the staff would arrange safe taxis which was much appreciated.
The breakfast was included in the room rate, which was very reasonable, only 35,000 for a double room.
The location is good too, there are plenty of restaurants just across the street, which saves having to wander far in search of dinner at night!
If you want a cheap, secure place to stay in Dar, this is a perfect option.
