The Oyster Bay Hotel
Ranked #19 of 97 Hotels in Dar es Salaam
Reviewed 6 March 2011

Should you find yourself wondering where to stay for a couple of days in Dar es Salaam, then you should definitely check out the Oyster Bay Hotel. What was once a former maternity home has been transformed into the ultimate chic boutique hotel. Fabulous bedroom suites with massively generous bathrooms and really interesting artwork everywhere, this is a great place to stay that would also suit a 'lone traveller'. Great cuisine too.

Discreetly well managed by the effervescent and affable Marietta, I had a very enjoyable stay there and look forward to a return visit in the future.

This hotel delivers the best service and the best food in Dar es Salaam. It is like being in an elegant home where your host spoils you rotten. I would recommend anyone to stop over in Dar es Salaam just to stay a night at the Oyster Bay. What a treat!

Never have we felt so welcome. And never have we been so pleasantly surprised by every single aspect of a hotel stay. From the time we drove through the gates to when we reluctantly left the next day, we felt welcomed, pampered and thoroughly taken care of. We had a delightful conversation over dinner with the hotel manager, ate amazing food and marveled at the excellent taste and design involved in the hotel's renovation. Sometimes "design" equals "uncomfortable" but this time, the designers have actually stayed in hotels and thought of what guests would need. And compared to Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam feels like Paris-- proper streets, traffic lights and clean areas. We will be back.

Everything a boutique hotel should be. Excellent airport transfer. Fresh lemonade upon arrival on a hot day. Lovely, meticuloulsy clean, welcoming, modern rooms. The bathroom was roomy with both a shower and tub. Fantastic food included: a shrimp salad with avocado upon arrival, and perfectly cooked filet from dinner. The warm, brown multigrain bread may be the best bread we have ever had - glad we had it for lunch and dinner. I enjoyed a swim in the wonderful lap pool, attentively towels were rushed out for me. Service was obviously of the highest standard, and friendly, and yes even personal. We left more refreshed - after an extended adventure in the Serengeti - and prepared for a long plane trip home than ever.

we stayed one night en route from serengeti to london. The rooms were clean and confy, service outstanding, food great. There is a Communal dining which worked out wonderfully for us but maybe not for everyone, The hostess was great company. Breakfast good served bang on time, and the airport transfers worked wonderfully. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
