I'm writing this review based on it being a backpackers hotel/hostel.
I arrived here after a 12 hour bus journey from Arusha. Whilst the staff weren't rude i wouldn't describe them as helpful or welcoming. I booked a 'deluxe' room which came complete with a dingy dark room with no mosquito net or a/c. It was clean, came with a ceiling fan (thank god) and they provided a towel.
The breakfast was poor. A cup of tea/coffee and some toast for the nominal fee of $7 (should have questioned this more)!! This hotel was fine as a one night stopover (i was heading to Zanzibar early next morning) but i wouldn't have wanted to stay there another night. A rather depressing place.

For the price this is a pretty good option in central Dar es Salaam. The trims are clean, some have mosquito nets, some do not (ours was without, but well sealed with good mesh on the windows). Our room was air conditioned and worth the extra few dollars. Not a bad value option if you are spending a night or two in Dar enroute to Zanzibar or a safari.

Stayed here and we have very low standards but it was by far the worst place we stayed on our 10 week trip. The room reeked of urine no matter how much we tried to air it out. Their were no windows to the outside so it was very dark. When I got in the shower it was luke warm and worms and flies started moving around when the water hit them. Far worse then a bucket shower. Only high point was the free internet on their ancient computer.

The rooms look like they should have bugs - I didn't see any, but the rooms are scruffy and bare, and have that "bug" vibe. the staff is really helpful, though, and the breakfast is good. The location is good, but the area around the hotel looks really dodgy.

i was referred by an old friend if mine who had earlier had a stop over at Safari inn in DAR..this is a place i would like to spend a quiet night again.. as student .. the rates are quite affordable..the staff are polite and friendly and ..it is a safe and quiet place so i found it real conducive to do my study.. the rooms are clean.. well lit with a homely ambiance.breakfast was timely and certainly my security was guaranteed... hoping to visit you guys again in December when i come around

Room Tip: Rooms ton the top floor are more quiet

I have stayed in many hotels and hostels around Tanzania and I have to say, this one was by far the WORST!!! Cheap, yes, but horrible. The hotel itself is in a bad location, tucked away from the main streets, you have to walk down some pretty dark and dodgy back streets to get there. The receptionist wasn't helpful at all. A man in reception took our bags up to our room for us without us knowing and then wouldn't leave our room until we gave him money. The lock on our door was broke so we couldn't keep our possessions safe. The room STANK of urine. The sheets were stained. The toilet was unclean. There was no hot water. The room was full of flies. The shower was full of hair and grime. Just stay away. The place was horrible.

Stayed at the Safari Inn a couple of times while living in Tanzania. Best budget option in Dar. Safe and well-located.

Don't expect luxury or room service, but the rooms are clean and as quiet as you can get in Dar. Ask for one on the higher floors (although the 4th floor is for long-term stays, sometimes you can get a nice room up there). Aircon / fans worked fine and the desk staff will book taxis and generally help out.

Room Tip: Go for as high a floor as you can get. You'll need to carry your bags up - but it's worth it...
