Nice clean room, and a great shower, but every time I left the hotel and came back to the room, the key pass to the room wouldn't work, which meant hauling luggage back through the hotel and down to reception where they would then re-scan the card and hand it back, a process that I would usually have to repeat a handful of times before someone in reception assigned someone mechanically minded to resolve this.
If you can put up with this minor hassle, it isn't the worst place to stay, the breakfasts next door at the lebanese restaurant Albasha are pretty good (even if some of the things on offer may seem strange breakfast choices - pasta and chicken wings). You won't go short of taxis, as there is a taxi rank right by, and it is handily placed for a short walk to the ferry terminal if you are heading on to zanzibar. The room from the hotel window of the dilapidated building opposite is not the best view you will ever be confronted with, and I was woken some mornings by the call to prayer at 4:50am from a mosque that must be very close judging by the loudness.
Despite all of the above, I found it strangely compelling, and it is clean and tidy, and certainly contained the best showering facilities I encountered throughout my stay in Tanzania which involved staying in four different venues.
