“City center. Good place. Single bed is very cramped”
Reviewed 15 November 2011

It is right in the middle of the city and quite convenient to travel to various locations. If you on a business trip, this is an extremely good option at a attractive value point. However avoid booking the single room - it is very very small. Even if you are alone book the double room.

The hotel has no restraunt, but there is a convenient lebanese joint next door and they serve some amazing stuff.

A little walk around or a taxi trip will take you to most of the places close by. you can also try out a few other restaurants in the region.

I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights, had a standard room, which had a comfortable double bed, good bathroom, everything functioning properly, only complaint was that the A/C is a bit noisy.
Weekend room rates are lower that the week rates, so I ended up paying less than expected.
Breakfast at the adjoining building at the Lebanese restaurant was good and included in the room price.
Staff was friendly.

Nice clean room, and a great shower, but every time I left the hotel and came back to the room, the key pass to the room wouldn't work, which meant hauling luggage back through the hotel and down to reception where they would then re-scan the card and hand it back, a process that I would usually have to repeat a handful of times before someone in reception assigned someone mechanically minded to resolve this.

If you can put up with this minor hassle, it isn't the worst place to stay, the breakfasts next door at the lebanese restaurant Albasha are pretty good (even if some of the things on offer may seem strange breakfast choices - pasta and chicken wings). You won't go short of taxis, as there is a taxi rank right by, and it is handily placed for a short walk to the ferry terminal if you are heading on to zanzibar. The room from the hotel window of the dilapidated building opposite is not the best view you will ever be confronted with, and I was woken some mornings by the call to prayer at 4:50am from a mosque that must be very close judging by the loudness.

Despite all of the above, I found it strangely compelling, and it is clean and tidy, and certainly contained the best showering facilities I encountered throughout my stay in Tanzania which involved staying in four different venues.

Like many have mentioned when reviewing this motel, this is a great facility for a stop over. My boyfriend and I had a very late flight out of Dar (4am!) and had just flown back from Selous so needed a place to stay till our flight. The Heritage was great, we had even left them our huge backpacks before our safari to Selous and they were very kind in keeping them stored without any charge. Plus the room was huge, very clean, airconditioned and a general oasis, we were dying for a shower and some bed time and the Heritage provided both to the fullest. Ahm, we even managed to know out a fuse in our room, leaving us with no electricity and 5' after we told the reception, the electrician was in our room and fixed the fuse for us. It's also very safe given that to enter each floor from the elevator, you use your room key to open the corridor door. The area around didn't look particularly attractive (well we only caught a glimpse of it at night) but like others said, not reason to leave the hotel at night anyways. There is also an Airport Shuttle but at the time of our stay, the van was being serviced.
Overall, Heritage thanks for a great stay and helpful staff!

I had read some bad reviews before I came here, but actually I was impressed by the high standards. I thought the rooms were clean, with all mod cons, such as air-con, fridge, safe, TV, running hot water, etc. There was also a slidable mesh mosquito screen across the window, and the rooms were very ambient with a nice colour scheme. The staff were friendly and professional, and they had no trouble getting my credit card to work. There was also a very decent breakfast with lots of local fruit in the Lebanese restaurant next door. Don't worry about the neighbourhood. Everywhere downtown Dar is pretty shabby. You're unlikely to get mugged, even at night. This hotel is definitely a good choice if you're staying in central Dar.

nothing but good things to say - especially for the price. it was clean, the staff was courteous and the attached restaurant provided a good breakfast. the best part was the bathroom - water pressure and temperature were fantastic! plus, it's a very quick and direct walk from the port. i'd definitely recommend staying here while in dar.
