In the dust and bustle of Dar es Salaam, we came across Alexander's Hotel purely by chance whilst planning a lay over on our way home from the Comores. 11 spacious rooms on 2 floors wirh a rooftop bar and restaurant, all constructed around central courtyard with pool. This boutique hotel, ably managed by Gordon Alexander was a real find and it was a great pleasure for us to stay there. Restaurant food was good and the rooftop bar area very pleasant in the evening

The only criticism we could make was that the aircon unit was extremely noisy although very efficient. We would definitely return

Stayed here for a night with a friend who had been staying for a while. The hotel is beautiful and is well-run and managed by the friendly owner who is very helpful with anything one would need. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the property has a nice pool which we didn't use. Food was quite tasty, and staff friendly. Definitely an oasis in the middle of Dar.

my wife and I stayed here for two nights while in Dar on the recommendation of a friend who said it was good for food. while we only ate breakfast here, we found it very well located, secure and comfortable. It's a lovely building with a nice bar and restaurant. And the owner, Gordon, was very accommodating when we asked for a late check out, very nice guy.
It's not a typical international chain hotel but it is personal and homely. We're glad we stayed here!

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room but I think they are probably all more or less the same. They are a good...

We had imagined a very nice hotel according to the rewievs we had read. But rooms were dark a not nice to spend time in.
The pool , no one had any responsibility to look after it. The breakfast was OK. But we also had lunch and ordered fish. When it arrived it was frozen inside, so they took it out and put it in a owen for some minutes and then back to us. Stll not so nice and no compensation.
The good thing about the hotel was: plenty of space to relax on the seceond floor and nice and tasteful furniture etc.

It was in february 2010 we stayed at the hotel.

Over all the staff included the owner was not considerate and helpful. Which we had hoped.

Planning my next vacation and looking at tons of places had me thinking of our stay at Alexander's. I thought we had written a review but realize now it somehow got lost in the return from vacation shuffle. Hopefully, the fact that I still want to say wonderful things a year later goes to show how much we enjoyed the place. First off, Gordon is a fantastic host. Felt like we were staying in a friend's home. Relaxing in the bar area upstairs was the perfect way to end the day. The plan was just to stay 2 nights and we ended up using the hotel as our base while traveling around Tanzania. Gordon arranged airport pick-ups and even held on to some extra luggage during our short trips (such a nice touch). Food was so good we had dinner there at least 3 times. Rooms clean and staff is very friendly. Hope to get back to Tanzania and will DEFINITELY stay there again!

Room Tip: Rooms are spacious

My daughter and I stayed with Gordon and his staff in Jan. 2011. The hotel is the perfect spot in a busy city. Gordon is there to help you with everything you could possibly need. He's so laid back, nothing is a bother.

My daughter was sick for a couple of days while we were there. Gordon paid special attention to our needs. He checked on us and had his staff make special meals. He was so wonderful. If we were in a large hotel, no one would have noticed or cared.

I can't recommend Alexanders Hotel enough. It's small, intimate, and truly special - as is the owner.

I stayed at Alexander's for 6 weeks for business. The owner and proprietor of Alexander's, Gordon Alexander, has an eye on all parts of the hotel which in other parts of the world this could be misunderstood as a bad thing, but in Africa this is what guests need. If something doesn't work in the room, you can be certain that Gordon will have it sorted out that day. You won't have some "management-types" making excuses and fobbing you off.

Food is tasty and if the menu gets repetitive (again I was there for 6 weeks), they will try their best to accommodate other culinary desires.

Rooms are clean, cool and medium to large in size.

Shops and more restaurants are just 1km away.
