Clean and warm pool, nice location, nice bar/restaurant, clean and spacious rooms.

The manager and staff were helpful and went above and beyond. We stayed here twice.

No cocktails in bar - sniff. Hardly a big deal though.

We stayed here at the end of a safari with a family of four. We enjoyed the beautiful rooms, excellent food and general sense of welcome. We are finicky sleepers and enjoyed the peace and quiet afforded in the quiet corner of otherwise hectic Dar.
We had saved up our souvenir shopping and were pleased to find the recommendations by the owner brought us to places far less expensive than what we had seen elsewhere in the country.
Also great: the airport pick up and transfer could be put on the hotel bill, very accommodating.
I would stay nowhere else upon return.

I loved everything about this hotel. Gordon is extremely helpful and accommodating. The breakfast is excellent and served in a lovely room. The rooftop bar and restaurant has a great menu and wonderful wine and bar list. Our room was comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped.

We spent roughly three weeks at Alexander's and nothing was too difficult for Gordon or his staff to make our stay more comfortable and pleasant, from arranging taxis from the airport with five minutes notice when arrival times were incorrect, to being amiable and friendly hosts to chat to in the evenings at the bar in the roof-top restaurant.
The hotel is situated in a little back road on the Msasani peninsular in Dar with easy access to the city and its environs - depending, of course, on the notorious Dar Es Salaam traffic!
There are a number of very good restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel and the hotel's own roof-top restaurant offers a wonderful menu with excellent choices.
We will definitely be staying here for our next trip.

Room Tip: Any room is good.

Stayed here 2 nights, coming and leaving Dar en route to my trip to the Tanzanian interior. The hotel is spotlessly clean and comfortable. The breakfast is hearty British/American style to fill you up for the day. There is a restaurant on the top level that serves top quality food. I had the tuna and it tasted fresh from that day.
Gordon was very good to work with and helped out with my ground transportation. I can't imagine there is a better place to stay in Dar es Salaam.

The rooftop restaurant at this lovely hotel offers very special, fresh food that is delicately cooked - and lots of it! The salads are very special, delicate in taste, fresh and plentiful. Have the beatifully cooked sea food to go with it. Getting past the ordered starter was a challenge, but main course was equally excellent and generous. The coconut ice cream to finish is not to be missed. The wine list is comprehensive, and of good quality, and the circular cellar is visible through the glass floor of the well appointed breakfast kitchen. Breakfast is also impressive with a wide choice and quality food.

Gordon Alexander is warmly welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. He will arrange taxi's too and from Dar airport at cry competitive rates and with safe drivers who know the " rat runs" that very partially alleviate movement through a city that is often grid locked.

The hotel is approached through a background, and the unimpressive walled entrance gives way to an attractive, well appointed hotel that form a quadrangle round the pool

Rooms re spacious, very clean, simply but and attractively planned. The bed is comfortable, and our bathroom was spacious. A nice surprise was the very hot water that was on tap an d from the shower. Operate gently on first handling, water can be very hot indeed, but is easily handled and most welcome. Towels are plentiful, clean and promptly changed.

This hotel is expensive for a small hotel, offers good value, but as stated is worth the visit for the rooftop restaurant, the informative and warm welcome, and as a secure and comfortable haven from the humid bustle of Dar Es Salaam.

Room Tip: Some rooms are bigger than others, so a good idea to match your pricing to need.

Alexander's was a little oasis that you just wouldn't expect when you drive up. Gordon was very easy to work with and kind in setting up the reservation, making changes, and the like, but it was a bit tough for business work as the wi-fi was spotty and it seemed they were a bit frustrated with our business requests. Other than that, delightful, but you do miss that business-friendly atmosphere that you might get at the Double Tree. My room also smelled like strong bug spray a large amount of the time.
