“Hotel located right in the heart of Dar es Salaam”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

Had a great stay at this hotel. Reception gave a warm welcome and the staff were superb here. Dinesh the manager makes a point of walking the job and saying hello to customers making sure that all is well.
Breakfast was good, fresh fruit, eggs - how you like, plus a selection of african foods - these are generally savoury.
Room was satifactory, clean with a decent bathroom, ac which is essential in December. Nice furniture though rather a lot of it and cleaned daily. What would have made it better for me perhaps less furniture in the room.
Location is great right in the heart of Dar with friendly staff at all times of the day. Wifi also available.
I guess the only strange thing for me is the selection of TV channels - indian movies rather odd but not many african stations. The customers seemed to be international, I only had six channels 2/3 were Indian. A couple of international news channels would have been great.

I stayed here on a transit night from Zanzibar flying out the next morning. The location is central downtown and close to the ferry. The service was good and staff were very polite. The rooms were rather small and tight (I was sharing a double twin room). It has a nice little balcony (wear mosquito spray when outside) and you can watch the hustle and bustle below.

The rooms are clean with a nice shower but nothing that really sets it apart to others in the same price class.

The best part of this hotel is probably the restaurant. This hotel seems geared towards Indian and Chinese visitors and the restaurant really shows this. A large variety of Szechuan and other Chinese dishes as well as Indian and Continental.

The Nikko Hotel is a very average value. I changed rooms twice during my latest visit, but the staff is very friendly, and willing to help and the manager is also very nice. The gym is nice and the hotel is in generally good shape. The AC and fans work, and the Internet service is reliable. It is an all around solid place to stay for the business traveler. The only downside is that it is a little on the pricey side, considering the accommodations. However, I do recommend it if you want are ok with spending 70 to 80 per night (including tax) - The food is the only thing that is completely unreasonable in terms of pricing - the same meal at any high end spot in Dar can be found for less than half what is charged at the hotel, but when you are tired from a long day of sweltering heat outside, you probably just want to order in room service - and you are almost forced to pay the very high food prices. The hotel is ok, not great, not bad, but ok - and when you compare it to some of the dumps run by outright criminals, it is a good choice.

Room Tip: Get a room on the top floor as the Internet works better there and it is closer to the Gym - avoid e...

The hotel is very well maintained by an eficient manager. The staff are very helpful and well trained. The restaurant is good, specialized in Indian food, fish and also dishes for western clients. Rooms are good, with air conditioned and fan in the ceiling, very clean, the best is the bathroom. Location is good in a quite neighbourhood, but in Dar that doesn't matter much because you have to go by taxi everywhere.

Very nice place to stay, with AMAZING food. Staff is nice and very helpful. If you're new in town like me and my fiancé were, don't hesitate to ask for places to go and see. Neighbourhood is good and you can mostly walk everywhere.

Stayed here on two separate occasions for 2 nights. Friendly staff. Rooms are small but good TV, tea and coffee and clean. The area is fine and walkable at night with the usual precautions taken. Would certainly stay here again if I found myself in Dar.

I have stayed here on two occasions and each time found this to be a friendly, comfortable and conveniently located hotel. It is a city centre hotel so do not expect magnificent views. The restaurant and bars are very good, and the rooms have all the facilities that you expect of a modern hotel, including good wi-fi access. The rooms are not spacious but more than satisfactory for one or two people.

Room Tip: Be friendly and nice to staff and they will reciprocate.
