You've never smelled anything like this! Local genuine fish marked, a paradise for shooting photos! Very interesting place, but be aware, we saw some pretty high people lurking around.

“Busy smelly place ”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2014 via mobile

I rather go to Masasani fish market less crowd, less smell and better bargains. This place smells like no other place I have been before can't stand everyone trying to sell you fish in your face weather you approve or not

“No photos please! (?)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

We visited Kivukoni Fish Market as part of a tour around central Dar es Salaam. Our guide recommended not to take photos as the locals don't like being photographed which was dissappointing as it was quite interesting. Our guide also told us to beware of pickpockets. The market seemed to be seperated in 3 sections. The first where the fish is brought in from the sea, the second where it is smoked and third where it is sold. One of the most interesting places to visit in attraction-starved Dar es Salaam.

The most beautiful shells were on sale and I was tempted to buy some. The stall owner told me it is okay to bring them back home but I already did some reseach and found out I might have got fined taking shells back into the E.U.

Worth a visit!

“The best (fish market) food ever!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

Busy and smelly place, since it is a fish market. A beautiful melt with locals and local culture. Do the tour of the market, see what is on offer and definitely try a local fish speciality. Do not get discouraged by the smell, the food is clean and good! People eat in big tables, so just grab your fish soup and join one of them. Food is cheap - don't pay more that 1000 Tsh per person.
