Tanzanite Executive Suites
Ranked #11 of 97 Hotels in Dar es Salaam
Reviewed 23 April 2014

We stayed 4 nights and it was excellent! Firslty, the suites are located very conveniently in town. It is only a walk (within 500m) of the Ferry Terminal, so if you want to visit Zanzibar Island you can take the morning Ferry out and the last Ferry back. The hotel is also close to restaurants, Banks and Shops.
The breakfast is great! It is included in the price. The dining area is also nice. When we went there they we busy with renovating the dining area so it was set up on the 3rd floor. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You are met by "Masai Warriors" at the door dressed in traditional Masai clothing. Then the porters carry your luggage for you until you have completed the checkin process and then take it up to your room. The rooms are spacious, clean, and have great views if you are at the top floors. The rooms are excellently equipped with a microwave, fridge, kettle, cuttlery and cockery. You have sattelite Tv with various channels to choose from. Airconditioners are available and working properly. The staff can organise activities on your behalf if you ask them in time. Airport transfers can be done (or anywhere in Dar Es Salaam). They'll also reccommend the restaurants to eat at. The takeaway menus are also available and I must say Tanzanian food is tasty! All round this is an excellent place to stay in while expolring Dar Es Salaam. It is the only accommodation option we now consider in Dar.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony. Ask for higher floors for great view of either ther city, ferry term...

My wife and I spent seven days at this hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. They can do better by introducing a full time restaurant. Its a Muslim hotel, so no beer allowed!!! Ask for a room with a balcony. No all rooms have that.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony..Do it in advance because they are limited rooms with a balcony.

I spent one night at this hotel and completely enjoyed the facilities there. The staff were helpful and the room was much better than I anticipated. Quite modern and clean. The service was not exceptionally outstanding but quite acceptable. Also the location with respect the airport was fine and facilitated a convenient and easy trip the next day.

My friend and I stayed there as part of our trip through southern Africa. It was pretty clean, had good air conditioning and the 2 of us shared a double bed which was plenty big enough. The best think about this hotel by far is the staff and service. Airport pickup was very good, and we also got picked up from Dar bus station (which can be pretty busy/unsafe) - both times the driver was great, very polite and the transport was always in good condition. Its a very safe place, a couple of security guards outside 24/7 and the rooms themselves are set far away from any doors to the outside. Breakfast was decent and a buffet so easy to fill yourself up. For other meals we ordered takeaway which worked fine - and staff were helpful suggesting places. We didn't sleep great, but that was because it was Ramadan and the local mosques were pretty active throughout the night blaring out prayers, this was nothing the hotel could do to prevent, just something about Dar. and the I'm not sure if this is common but they even let us leave our main rucksacks at the hotel while we went to Zanzibar for 4 days, so we were able to take smaller bags, which was a massive help. All in all they treated 2 backpackers with great friendly service and were helpful all round. I would highly recommend! Oh and the free wifi is very handy!

Our family of 4 stayed there as our first night in-country for a safari, and our last night post safari before departing Tanzania. They offer a very cost effective ($25) and reliable airport transfer service (we arrived at the airport at midnight and their driver was their waiting for us, we departed the hotel at 3am and again, the driver was prompt and helpful). The trip takes 20 minutes in the middle of the night, but I understand it can take over an hour during commute periods. The room was large, in good condition with particularly nice showers. They had not bothered to turn the AC on, so the rooms were incredibly hot when we arrived (took 20 minutes to cool then down to comfort level). The have a restaurant, which is good because it is not easy to walk from the hotel to a decent restaurant. The food quality is pretty ordinary, edible but not particularly good. Overall a good place for a family's short stay. As others have commented, the décor & feel of the place is strictly functional (except, interestingly in the restaurant, which has a massive water fall wall and several large fish tanks - certainly the most interesting part of the hotel).

This place has no personality or character whatsoever. However, it is clean and safe and has an excellent location. Our room was a 2-bedroom suite, spacious but over-air-conditioned. The bathrooms were great with a walk-in shower. An added benefit is that they will pick you up at the airport, which is great if you arrive in the middle of the night. The price is set and it's added to your bill. Service at the front desk can be slow, but only because they take great care with all the details. Highly recommended for a very short layover in Dar.

Room Tip: Get to breakfast early for the best selection!

My husband, my 5 kids and I were visiting Dar for a week and decided on the Tanzanite Suites because it wasn't too expensive and they had rooms that could accommodate our entire group. It was a great place to stay! They helped arrange transport everywhere we wanted to go and the rooms were clean and air conditioning worked great! Service was good. Neighborhood is interesting to walk around. I would definitely recommend this hotel. We stopped by a few of the higher priced hotels and we definitely did not think their much-higher price reflected a much better experience.

Room Tip: If you pick a room on a higher floor you will have a great view of Dar.
